Chapter I Wish 10

Chapter 10

After I returned home, my phone kept buzzing

with notifications. I initially ignored them, but the sheer number of messages made me check my phone.

All of them were from Damon.

I scrolled to the very top.

The first messages he sent were several group photos taken during his trip around the time

my father passed away. The photos included

men and women, with a few where he wasn’t standing next to Carol.

I didn’t understand what he was trying to convey until I read his accompanying messages.

“I wasn’t alone with Carol; we were with others.

It was just a coincidence that we sat together for some photos.”

He even sent a picture of him lying in bed with his friends.

I laughed. Was he trying to prove he hadn’t slept

with Carol?

I continued scrolling through the messages, which were all attempts to show he hadn’t done anything with Carol.

Apparently, he wasn’t clueless; he knew what would make me jealous. He just hadn’t bothered to reassure me before. Now that we were heading for a divorce, he decided it was

time to explain.

More messages came in, filled with apologies and pleas for making up. Annoyed, I set his messages to “Do Not Disturb” and changed his

contact name.

The next morning, I was still groggy from just brushing my teeth when a knock on the door

woke me up.

I opened it to find Damon standing there with a thermos. Before I could say anything, he slipped inside, and I rolled my eyes at his back.

In the kitchen, he had already taken out the food of the thermos: a bowl of oatmeal and two

sandwiches.

“I came to have breakfast with you and then take you to work. I made these myself. Try them,” he said, gesturing proudly at the food.

Just as I was about to decline, his phone rang. He looked irritated but answered it after it rang several times.

Carol’s anxious voice came through, “Damon, my car broke down again. Can you come and get me?”

Why did Carol never tire of this trick?

And why did Damon keep falling for the same old trick every single time?

Sure enough, Damon gave me a conflicted look. I already knew his decision.

In the past, I would have asked him to choose between us. Now, I no longer cared.

As soon as Damon hurried out of my house, I dumped the breakfast he made into the

trash.
