Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Back in my own department, my phone wouldn’t stop buzzing with messages. Since I wasn’t replying, Damon resorted to texting me.
“Ashy, I’m sorry. I was wrong. Please give me another chance to make it right.”
“I’ll make breakfast for you again tomorrow.”
“Don’t rush home after work tonight; let me take you back.”
“I heard you have surgery today. Don’t be too nervous, just relax.”
It felt like he was back to how he was when we were in a relationship, constantly showering me

with concern. But I was just annoyed that I’d forgotten to block his number.
I raised my hand and knocked on my own head in frustration. Then, without hesitation, I promptly added his number to the block list.
Damon hadn’t signed the divorce papers. He brought the papers to the hospital, dragged me to the stairwell, and tore them up in front of me.
“Why did you block me? Why didn’t you reply to my messages?”
He looked furious, as if I’d committed some heinous crime.

I pushed him away. “Damon, you can’t have such double standards.”
I glanced at the shredded divorce papers on the ground. “No worries, I can always draft another
one.”
I didn’t understand why he was making such a fuss. He clearly didn’t love me that much. Why couldn’t we part ways peacefully?
“No, I will never divorce you. As long as I don’t agree, we can’t get divorced!”
His despicable attitude only made me laugh. “It doesn’t matter. Even if you don’t agree, I will file for divorce unilaterally.”
Seeing my determined expression, Damon

furrowed his brows.
“Ashy, it’s all my fault. I didn’t understand these things before. I do love you. I won’t get divorced.”
I was baffled. Was it really necessary?
After I left, Damon collapsed weakly onto the floor. He repeatedly replayed in his mind the things that had happened in the past.
He had Carol sit in the passenger seat, and even though I was clearly bothered by it, he ignored
- me.
He shared his daily life with Carol, and even though I was obviously upset, he didn’t pay attention.

Now that I got into another man’s car, he started to feel jealous.
When I didn’t respond to his affection, he began
to feel sad.
Damon let out a bitter smile. His heart felt like it had been crawled over by a multitude of ants, an uncomfortable and sour sensation.
He realized, perhaps for the first time, how much he had broken my heart.
