Chapter 67
Chapter 0067
Laura
“You are jealous?” I asked him while we were still looking deeply at
each other, so close to each other.
“Of course I am,” he replied curtly, and I couldn’t stop the corners of my lips from turning up in a smile.
“That never happened,” I said to him. Jason had never been jealous of me before, when we were married, he wasn’t even interested in me, and today he was so close to me that he even felt jealous.
“Things have changed, Laura. I’m not willing to lose you again for anything in this world,” he said to me. He was so close that I only had to stretch a little on the tips of my feet, and our lips would come together.
“Lost me again? Who said you already had me?” I asked with an amused smile playing on my face.
He sighed, looking confused. “What do you mean? After the night w had…” he stammered.
“It was only one night, Davies. Isn’t that to get any idea,” I said, seeing his lips part slightly in astonishment.
“How can you say such a thing?”
“It’s just the truth, we’re not going back, Jason. I’m not into you anymore; clearly, what I have for you is attraction, and well, I was terribly needy yesterday, and what happened ended up happening, but I have a boyfriend, and I really hope that what happened between us will never happen again. Now excuse me, my boyfriend is waiting for me at home,” I said to him, making sure to lean my body against his

“What? Annie was with Jason?” Richard asked and choked.
Anne and I were already home safely, so now that Ava and Richard were talking to me while Terrence was playing with Annie in the living room, from here, where I was in the kitchen, I could see my daughter playing and having so much fun, totally oblivious to things that happened when she returned. So innocent, my role was to protect this child, and I would continue to do so until the last day of my life on this earth.
“The guy kidnapped the girl as soon as he found out that Annie was her daughter, what a fool. He’s sick! Ava said, disgusted.
“What the fuck? Shit!” Richard swore with his hands on his head. “So now that son of a bitch knows that Annie is his legitimate daughter What a disgrace!”
“If you look at it, you’ll realize that it was only a matter of time befo he discovered the truth,” I said to them.
“Why are you talking like that, like you want him to find out the truth?” Richard asked suspiciously.
I shrugged. “I’m not saying anything at all, but everything was lost from the day I saw him again in Charme, Richard. You know Jason Davies isn’t the kind of man who gives up on things so easily,” I explained further.
“I agree with you on that, Lau. It was certain that sooner or later, Jason would find out the truth about Annie,” said Ava, having a cup of
hot coffee in her hands.
“Okay, but how? How did he find out? As far as he knew, Annie was
my biological daughter, not his. Someone must have told him so,” Richard said, looking at Ava suspiciously. “Does your husband…”

“Of course not, right, Richard? As much as Terrence is Jason’s friend, he kept Laura’s secret all this time and never told him anything. Why would he tell Jason this now after so long?” Ava said, defending her husband.
“I believe in Terrence, Richard,” I said, also defending Ava’s husband’s loyalty.
“So how the hell did Jason find out about this shit? Did Santa tell him?
Richard asked sarcastically.
“I have no idea how he found out,” I said after sighing audibly.
“Well, whatever way he found out, the milk is already spilled. What we have to do now is keep him away from Annie,” said Ava.
“I think we need to prosecute him for kidnapping Annie,” Richard suggested. “I mean, he picked up Annie from daycare without y permission. Imagine if he had bad intentions. Where would Annie
now?”
I shuddered at that thought, I was so afraid of losing my daughter. Jason isn’t crazy at this point,” I said.
“You said Annie told you that Jason walked with her every afternoon yesterday, right?” Ava wanted to know.
“Yes. Annie said that Jason took her to lunch, and then they went. shopping together, played together in the main square, and then went to the hotel where he stayed. Maybe he just wanted to spend a little time with Annie,” I said.
“That’s suspicious,” Richard suspected.
“I don’t believe him,” said Ava.

“You have to press charges to get a protective order against him, honey,” Richard insisted. “He might do it again.”
“Actually, he asked me to let him be present in Annie’s life from now on,” I said.
“What? And you’re going to let it?” Richard asked, looking like he had been insulted,
“He seems really sorry, Richard, and Annie seems to like him,” I said, wanting them both to look at it with the eyes I was seeing.
“Bullshits,” said Richard, exasperated.
“I can’t believe him, Lau. We’re talking about Jason Davies here, the man who made you suffer so much,” Ava wanted to remind me.
“I know that, but people regret and change, Ava. Plus, he’s Annie’s father. Do you want me to stop my daughter from growing up without her father?” I said, distressed.
“But Annie already has a father; it’s not like she’s missing it; sh me as a father,” Richard insisted.
“I know, Richard, but it’s different. We can’t just make this decis based on our emotions or the remorse we have for Jason. He remains Annie’s legal father, and I just can’t take away that truth,” explained.
How could I determine who should or should not be my daughter’s father? What if Annie one day demanded that from me? Like it or not, it’s not her fault that Jason and I got divorced or that I got closer to Richard, and now we’re at this impasse. She’s not to blame for anything, she’s just a girl who has the right to grow up with her father.
“Look at you, Laura. How strange. You seem so changed, you seem to have changed your mind overnight. You were the first person who

“What happened last night between you and Jason?” The suspicious and somewhat disappointed look was evident on his face, and for a moment I had no way to respond.
