Chapter 534
Chapter 534 I Need to See Her
Annie found it odd that Larry had come down himself when he could have easily sent his secretary or asked the front desk to let her go up directly. She kept the question to herself and followed him into the elevator.
The elevator was quiet, with only the three of them inside, creating an especially awkward atmosphere.
Larry's gaze occasionally flickered to Annie as he broke the quiet. "You came because of Harper's issue, didn't you?"
Annie didn't deny it. She nodded, then asked, "I saw the news online. Is it true about Benjamin and Lauren?"
Larry's brow furrowed slightly. He had suspected her visit was due to this issue, but hearing her confirm it aloud still unsettled him, evoking a sense of loss he couldn't quite explain.
He managed a faint smile and responded softly, "It's probably not true. Knowing him as I do, he wouldn't have that kind of relationship with Lauren. If he really wanted to be with Lauren, he could have just divorced Harper." Annie nodded, understanding his point.
When the elevator doors opened, the three of them walked out and headed directly to his office. The secretary tactfully chose not to follow them inside.
Now alone with Larry in his office, he gestured for her to sit and poured her a glass of water, placing it in front of her.
Annie, facing him with a softer tone than usual as if trying to make amends, said, "I want to know where Harper is. She's been out of touch for several days now. If there really wasn't anything wrong, I can't imagine she would just cut off contact. Could it be something to do with Frank? Did Benjamin do something to her?"
Larry's eyes narrowed slightly, his conviction deepening that Harper must be the one staying at the villa. That was why Benjamin had instructed him to keep a close watch, allowing no one in or out. He must have confined Harper there!
His expression grew serious as he mulled over these thoughts.
Annie noticed the change in his demeanor and asked softly, "Do you know where Harper is?"
Larry met her gaze, her focus on him intense, her brows knotted with worry, and her anxiousness evident on her face.
He didn't deny it, as guilt toward her
was already present in his heart.
Thus, facing any of her questions,
Larry found it impossible to
lie
He nodded slightly and said, "Unless something unexpected has happened, she should be in their bridal suite."
Annie had never been to the villa, but she knew the address.
Upon hearing Larry's response, she immediately stood up. "I need to go see her."
Larry reached out and gently grabbed her arm, pulling her slightly. He said somberly, "You can't get in; Benjamin has people guarding it."
"What does Benjamin mean by this? It's illegal, and moreover, Harper is pregnant!"
Annie was visibly agitated, her beautiful face flushing with anger.
They were very close, so Larry watched her intently, his Adam's apple involuntarily moving, his deep eyes showing an unusual expression.
When Annie noticed, she suddenly stopped talking, belatedly realizing how close they were.
She quickly lowered her head, murmuring softly, "I want to see Harper. Do you have any way to take me to her?"
Larry couldn't possibly refuse her require.
He merely smiled, a bit helplessly shaking his head. "Have you got me all figured out?"
Annie's cheeks reddened further; she quickly stepped back, her gaze shifting away to avoid the question.
Larry's grip on her arm loosened, and the distance between them grew.
Pretending to misunderstand, Annie
spoke softly, "I'm worried about Harper She's pregnant and being misunderstood and locked up must be so hard on her. I just want to Chard know if she's alright?"
In her heart, she had already resolved. If Larry proposed any condition, she would likely agree for Harper's sake.
