Chapter 510
Chapter 510 Surveillance Footage
Emery nodded. Benjamin waved to let him leave.
Benjamin had no intention of directly exposing Emery. His aim was simply to rattle Emery, to make him feel psychologically unnerved enough to seek Frank.
However, Emery did not contact Frank immediately. Instead, Emery remained silent. Curtis couldn't help but question, "Could it be someone other than Emery?" But Benjamin said, "Just keep watching him."
Having accomplished his purpose here, Benjamin soon had Curtis escort him back to the hotel.
To the outside world, Benjamin should be ensconced in business meetings in Teninus, so he needed to maintain that illusion.
By the time they returned, it was nearly lunchtime. Benjamin instructed Curtis to retrieve the surveillance footage.
While Curtis was dispatched to fetch lunch, Benjamin settled into the plush sofa to fix his eyes on the computer screen.
Harper appeared on the screen. She sat alone at the dining table. Three dishes and a soup lay before her. She propped her cheek with one hand while listlessly stirring her soup with the other. She chewed slowly. She sat facing the window, where sunlight danced on the garden flowers.
But the room was steeped in a silence so profound that even the soft buzzing of the surveillance could not pierce it. Benjamin gradually became gloomy.
Time seemed to stretch and compress as he observed every nuance of her movements. Finally, Harper set down her fork and turned toward the kitchen. "Angie, I can't eat this. Please take it away."
Angie came out of the kitchen and looked at the food on the table. "Mrs. Martin, you've barely touched your meal. Is the food not to your liking?"
"No, it's not the food. I suppose I just don't need as much energy or nutrition these days. Could you just make me some soup instead?"
"But you're pregnant now. This is the time when you need the most nourishment!"
Angie was a little worried.
On the contrary, Harper smiled, "It's okay. I'm taking supplements, and the baby is getting all the nutrients it needs."
Harper stood up as she spoke and walked towards the living room.
Benjamin clicked to switch the surveillance from the dining area to the living room.
Harper was dressed in clothes
Benjamin had instructed Curtis to prepare, masking her pregnancy yet somehow highlighting her fragile
state. ragile
Her delicate and makeup-free face exuded an innocent radiance.
Harper busted herself watering the plants and turning on the television, though she seemed to pay little attention to the movie. She paced the room.
Instead, her gaze drifted, taking in the details of her surroundings. Eventually, she spotted the
discreetly placed surveillancel
camera in the corner.
After the landslide, her senses were heightened, so she recognized the surveillance device almost immediately.
Harper approached the camera and stood beneath it, raising her head to stare directly into the lens.
Benjamin watched her approach with his deep eyes. He naturally knew that she had discovered it, but he was not surprised.
The two locked eyes through the camera, but their gazes were equally cold and unreadable.
After a moment, Harper called out, "Angie, come here."
Angie hurried over.
Harper raised her hand and pointed at the camera. She asked, "Who installed this?"
Harper knew there had been no camera before.
Harper lived here for a year, so her knowledge of the house was clear.
Angie, following Harper's gaze to the hidden camera, shook her head. "Mrs. Martin, I'm not sure who installed this monitoring system." "Well, have it removed. The radiation isn't good for the baby."
"But..."
"Do it. I find it annoying."
At that moment, Curtis entered with the food.
He glanced at the computer screen and whispered, "Mr. Martin, let's eat first."
Benjamin didn't respond and stared at Harper indifferently.
Angie kept silent since she didn't dare to refute Harper directly. Harper suddenly said, "What's the problem? Should I remove it myself?"
