Chapter 13
He takes me to a restaurant located in the palace for vampires and humans to dine together.
“Choose whatever you like, darling,” he says sweetly, now letting go of my hand to let me wander around the buffet. I hesitate for a moment, wondering if I should refuse to eat just to annoy him, but the food looks and smells too damn good. So I grab a plate and fill it up with mashed potatoes, tender scotch fillet, some vegetables and red wine sauce to top it all off.
“Can you get me some water?” I ask Maximus, who has spent the whole time watching me choose my food with interest, happy I have chosen lots to eat. With a smirk he goes off to get me a glass of water and I find a table for two near some other vampires and humans, eager to be near others and not too alone with Maximus.
I sit down and he sits opposite me when he has fetched the water.
“For you, beautiful,” he says as he places the water next to my plate. I ignore him and dig in, moaning at how tasty the food is, “I can’t wait to make you moan in other ways, sweetie,” he says, and I try not to choke on my food as he says it. I look away across the room and my eyes light up when I spot Claudia enter the restaurant with Jennifer. I try to beg with my eyes for them to come over, to save me from Maximus, but Claudia seems to realise Maximus wants alone time with me, and they move to the other side of the room.
“Maximus,” I say, after swallowing my food, “Who makes the food here?” I ask, “Humans or vampires?”
“Is that a stupid way to try and change the subject from all the ways I could make you moan?” He asks cheekily, with an all too amused grin.
“Ha,” Is all I can say as I cut up more of my steak. I can see his hand slowly making its way across the table, he wants to rest it on my elbow, I can see it coming, “Move any closer and this knife will go right through that hand,” I warn, “I will do it, I have been trained to be a vampire hunter, even if I haven’t killed one yet. Doesn’t mean I can’t start now,” I’m hugely satisfied by Maximus’ reaction. He pulls his hand back into his lap and straightens his back, looking offended.
“I prefer sweet girls,” Maximus states, “That is something you are going to need to work on.”
“Suck it up, buddy,” I say, grabbing my glass of water and downing it in one go. I slam my glass to the table and continue, “Uhhhhh, that was great. What’s next? You’ve fed me, now I think I need a massage. I think this situation would work a whole lot better if you were the slave. Then I might just be a whole lot sweeter, darling.”
“You really are a smart ass,” Maximus growls, looking truly annoyed now, “On that note though, I’d love to give you a massage, but I’m going to be very busy soon with some routine operations around the palace. It’s a full moon tonight.”
“Werewolves?” I ask.
“Yes, unfortunately,” Maximus confirms, “I’d much rather spend the night with you though, teaching you some manners.”
“Oh no, Maximus,” I say in a fake sweet tone, “Please be careful, I’d hate to hear that you’d been killed by werewolves!”
“Alright, that’s it, Isobel,” Maximus cracks it, he stands up and comes around to my side of the table, before I can get away he grabs me around the waist and throws me over his shoulder. I look towards Claudia and Jennifer but they are too absorbed in talking to each other to notice Maximus being an idiot. My camera is still around my neck and is nearly falling off.
“Put me down –” I begin.
“Not a chance,” Maximus growls back, stalking out of the restaurant and through the palace.
“What on earth are you trying to achieve from this?” I ask.
“Isobel, darling, I’d love to start teaching you right now how to behave however it’ll have to wait until tomorrow morning.” I can’t help it, I slap his ass as hard as I can, he hardly flinches. One of his arms is around my thighs, locking me to him, and his other hand smacks my butt in retaliation enough for it to sting, “Don’t play this game with me, darling,” Maximus says, now amused, “Because there will only ever be one winner.”
“Yep! Me!” I hiss back. Maximus laughs and I feel the vibrations through his back and shoulders.
“We’re home,” he says cheerfully, he opens his bedroom door and places me inside, sliding me down his big warm body. I quickly take steps away from him and he just tilts his head to the side, watching me.
“Are you going now?” I ask, annoyed.
“How did you escape last time?” He asks.
“You left the door unlocked,” I say, “You were distracted.”
“Huh,” Maximus reaches into his pocket and brings forth the key to his door, “I won’t forget this time. However,” he says this more quietly, more seductively, “One day you’ll willingly stay here, I promise you that.”
“In your dreams, Maximus!” I hiss back as he turns around, chuckling to himself as he leaves.
“Until later, my little hunter,” he farewells, closing the door and locking it from the outside.
In a huff I throw myself on his bed and sulk in a mass of pillows. He had an unusual amount of pillows on his bed, but it did make it all the more comfortable.
Not long after however there is a knock at my door. Someone tries to open it but fails.
“Isobel are you in there?” I hear Jennifer’s voice.
“Yes, I’m here,” I yell back.
“Would you like to be a part of an awesome plan?” She asks.
“Maybe,” I say dryly, “But I’m sort of stuck in here.”
“I’ll find a way to open the door, then we will talk,” Jennifer says.
“Um, okay,” I reply.
“I’ll be back soon.”
What on earth was this awesome plan? And if she did manage to get me involved, I hoped I wouldn’t regret it.
I’d soon find out.
This day just never ended.
