Chapter 18
Asgeir POV
I slowly opened my eyes, and immediately regretted it when I felt like I had hit my head against something really hard.
Oh right, I did hit my head against something really hard. A god damn rock to be exact.
I sat up slowly, feeling so dizzy, that it actually felt like I was going to throw up at any second. I leaned back against the wall and only then did I notice that I was not in the same place that I was before I lost my consciousness.
I looked around and saw that the walls around me were made of some kind of stone. Not like anything I ever saw before, I mean they didn't look like the stones back home.
I could feel my tears starting to well up again when I thought of home and I wondered if I would ever see them again, or if I would end up dying out here alone.
I was brought out of my thoughts when I looked ahead and saw huge metal bars that extended high up into the roof of whatever this was called. When I looked closely, I realized that I was indeed in a cage. Caged up like I was some kind of animal.
I leaned my head back and looked to my side, it was only then that I saw a bowl situated near me. I looked into the bowl and I noticed it was filled with water and next to the bowl was some kind of plant.
I picked up the plant and looked at it, immediately recognizing it as a healing root, since I had seen pictures of it before. I put the plant down and raised the bowl up to my nose to smell it, it smelt like water and I supposed if it was poisoned than I would die quicker right.
I raised the bowl to my lips and drank a few gulps of it before I placed the bowl down and picked up the root. I looked around and found a stone which I used to mash the root into a paste with the help of the excess water I left in the bowl.
When the paste was formed, I took some on my finger tips and applied it to the would on the back of my head and hissed a little when it burned slightly.
"Apply it on your shoulders too."
I jolted slightly when I heard his voice, and I looked behind me and saw the dragon sitting in front of the cage, watching me.
"Well, that wouldn't have been necessary if you hadn't thrown me like that." I said and slipped off my upper garment exposing my pale skin.
"You would have jumped off if I had put you on my back"
I looked towards my right and noticed all the scratches on my shoulder and on my arm. I applied the paste to all the areas that were scratched and when I was done, I turned around and noticed he was still there looking at me. I tilted my head, hoping he would see that I was wondering just why he was still there.
"There's more on your back"
I took more paste on my fingers and tried to feel where it burned to I could and apply it there.
"On your lower back"
I reached down and applied a layer there noticing the slight burn when I did. Once I was done, I sat and crossed my legs, not bothering to put my clothes back on because the paste was still wet.
"How is it that I can talk to you but others can't?" I asked as I sat facing him.
"That is something that still surprises me. Even I don't know how you're able to converse with me. No human before was ever able to do that"
"Do you live here alone?" I asked.
"I do. Ever since your husband murdered my entire family."
"Is that why you took me?"
"I wanted him to feel that pain. The pain of having someone you love ripped away from you."
"Well I hate to break it to you, but he doesn't love me." I said chuckling and leaning my head back slowly, careful not to smudge the paste.
When he didn't say anything further, I took it upon myself to ask further.
"Did he kill someone you loved?" I asked looking into his eyes .
"He murdered my entire family, the only reason I am alive is because I was not here when they attacked. All our lives, we have stayed here, and left the humans alone, until they attacked us first."
"What do you mean by that?" I asked not understanding what he was saying.
"That young warrior, Prince Gregor, had attacked us first. He killed my sister and left behind the seal of your kingdom. When my elder brother found her body and the seal, he was filled with so much rage that he attached your kingdom. Your king in turn appointed him to attack us. He mercilessly killed every single dragon that once inhabited this land."
I thought about it for a minute and actually felt disgusted at the extent that Gregor would go to marry into my family. Was he really that desperate for our bloodline that he actually made it look like we had attacked The Dragon Den first?
"I'm sorry. I can't imagine the pain that you must be going through right now." I said trying to smile at him.
"So what are you planning on doing with me since we've established that Gregor wouldn't give a shit whether I lived or died. He's probably scheming to marry one of my other brothers as we speak. After all, carrying is heirs is all matters to him."
"So why were you willing to marry him?"
"I was going to do it for my parents, but I suppose I have you to thank for that" I said and rested the urge to chuckle when he tilted his head, clearly confused and I don't know why , but seeing a dragon do that was just cute.
"Thank me for what?"
I leaned my head back and closed my eyes as I sighed.
"For saving me from marrying a ruthless bastard like him."
