Her Undeniable Temptation

During a later class, Zoe and Bella were discussing her birthday which was approaching soon! “Well, I did want to spend my birthday with Alex but that is not going to happen anymore,” Bella said as her face darkened for a second before she smiled again. “I was thinking you, Dora and a few other girls could have a sleepover at my house or something.” She said,

“Sounds cool but what gift do you want?” Zoe asked. “Hmm, surprise me!” she said. “Bell, I have been trying to come up with a gift idea-” Zoe tried to say but Bella was quick to cut her off. “Fine, how about I make a list of random things I want and you can choose one for me?” she suggested.

“Yes, that much better,” Zoe said as the teacher handed out an assignment that kept them busy for the rest of the class. Afterward, they were heading to biology when Zoe spotted Alex down the hallway coming in their direction! “Uh,” Zoe mumbled.

“What, oh, I’ll be in here! Let me know when he is gone,” Bella said when she noticed Alex. She ran into the bathroom before Zoe could stop her.

Alex looked at the door and then at Zoe. “She is avoiding me?” He asked. Zoe bit her lips and nodded! They just looked at each other before Alex gave her a small smile.

“So… How are you?” He asked. Zoe was usually comfortable with Alex but how could they be when they did something worth not forgetting on a new year. How can they just be normal? Just these few seconds of Zoe standing a foot away from him, he was already setting her on edge.

Zoe wanted to pull him to her chest and continue where they had left off. She wondered if he was as tense as she was, hmm.

“I’m, Uhm, good, and you?” Zoe asked. He gave a half-smile. “Oh, believe me, I’m good.” He replied. The way he said that mixed with his eyes. He is such a hot shot and Zoe loves him so much that she was going crazy just being this close to him. Zoe shifted her backpack over her shoulder and one of her books ended up falling on the floor.

They both bent down to pick it up at the same time and nearly bumped their forehead together. Inches away from her and he met her eyes.

‘God, was this some Indian movie or what?’

“uhm…” Zoe mumbled.

“Uh, yeah, uhm here.” He muttered and handed her the book as he quickly stood up. Zoe realized his jaw had been really strained, ah the butterflies.

Had he been wanting to k**s her just now? Sigh, she stood up back and pushed some stray hair out of her face before tucking it behind her ear. “I should go, you know, class and stuff,” he said.

Zoe stood still for a moment trying to calm herself. Nothing had happened, just chill. She opened the bathroom door and gestured for Bella to come out. “Wow, how awkward! Was it really awkward?” She asked. “Uhm no but I think he noticed you rushing into the bathroom,” Zoe said and sighed, making her g***n.

“Ugh, I had a feeling, oh well! He knows he’s a jerk and I don’t want to see him.” She said, “You are not still thinking about getting revenge, are you?” Zoe asked.

Zoe felt tired. Like her day was already over when in reality it was barely even halfway through, at lunch before she had gotten any food. Luke showed up!

“Hey, can we talk for a minute?” He asked and she got nervous. This was the first time they were going to talk since she asked him to go on a break. Zoe wondered what they were going to talk about. “Sure, Where?” She asked but instead, he grabbed her hands and led her to a bench outside of the cafeteria! It was private, and Zoe was guilty.

“How have you been?” He asked. ‘oh Luke! I’m such a horrible person, please stop loving,’ Zoe thought in her head. “Great, you?” She finally muttered and his eyes narrowed slightly. “Well not that great, I mean, I’ve been wondering if you would still want to be with me?” Luke finally said.

“I’m sorry Luke, I didn’t really mean! Great, I just, I-” Zoe stuttered as Luke chipped in. “It’s fine Zoe but I really need to know if you still want me?” he asked, his eyes searching hers.

He is so handsome and so good to her but she was the exact opposite. Zoe was a cheater. “Of course, I still want you Luke but I don’t know if I’m quite done with the whole thing. Uhm, space thing yet.” Zoe said and he nodded.

“Okay yeah, I get it. Take all the time you want, can I just have one thing before we go back to keeping a distance from each other?” He asked and Zoe hesitated a bit.

“I suppose.” She whispered softly that Luke could hardly hear.

He placed his hands on either side of her face and kissed her. Zoe had momentarily forgotten how well Luke could k**s, ah so good, and yet the whole time she thought about Alex.

Ugh, the guilt! The mixed feeling.

It sucked that she couldn’t enjoy the k**s with Luke since they probably wouldn’t be kissing for a little while, or however the amount of time it would take her to fix her messed up life. When she pulled away! he smiled that adorable half-smile that made her heart ache, as cheesy as that sounds.

“Let me know when you figure things out, okay?” he said, making Zoe nod her head. What could she have said? He walked away back to the cafeteria leaving her alone. She sat down on the bench until lunch was over. Zoe didn’t have an appetite anymore.

Zoe believed that she finally got what being lovesick means now.

She missed Luke so much. She used to call and text him constantly! They went out on a dinner date and saw movies together. They did all the typical teen-appropriate things, except the uh, one main activity teens do! You know what we are talking about. Right?

Zoe has missed him terribly since the break. As much as she misses Luke, she also did miss Alex just as much. Since going back to school she hasn’t talked to Alex like when she bumped into him with Bella, at all. She basically just goes to school and rushes to each class even if she is early or late! Waste as little time as possible at her locker sometimes.

If she sees either of the guys. She acts like Bella and dives into the bathroom to hide like a chicken! After a week of stupid behavior like that! Alex stopped trying to talk to her, that stung like a bee.

Though she knew she was an immature person hiding in a nasty bathroom, Zoe was totally hurt that he quit.

She filled Dora on the whole Luke issue and her response was that. “That is a rational choice Zoe, every good relationship should take a breather so often.” When she said that, Zoe did her best to resist the urge to roll her eyes like she was not always in a fight with Parker.

Zoe wished she hadn’t asked her. How would she know a thing about needing a breather in a relationship? Seriously, ugh, Zoe hates having bad thoughts towards her friends but maybe sometimes.
