“How have you been feeling since then! You know the attack?” Zoe asked quietly. “Good, honestly I have a feeling I won’t be having another one for a long time.” He said. “Good,” Zoe sighed with relief. “Yeah,” he muttered and they were both silent for a bit.

“Oh wow,” He muttered all of a sudden. “What is it?” She asked. He chuckled. ”The pack carolers, a whole bunch of them are singing across the road from my house.” Alex said. ”Can you hear what they are singing?” Zoe asked.

“Uh, no, probably a jingle bell song by the look of it. God, I really hope they don’t come over to my house – damn. Too late they are here.” Alex said and Zoe laughed. “Carolers aren’t bad, you should go out and listen to them!” Zoe suggested.

”I don’t like people singing in front of my house, it is just really awkward.” Alex says. “Where are you at?” Zoe asked. “Hidden behind the curtain looking out,” he replied in a whisper like the singers were going to hear him.

“Alex?” Zoe called with a sigh. “Crap! They are all old people, Now I feel bad.” He continued to whisper. “Why do you feel bad?” Zoe asked, trying not to laugh. “I don’t know, old people out in the cold! I feel like I should give them something.” Alex mused.

“Like what?” Zoe asked.

“Hmm, I am not sure! Oh, wait I know. Hold on for a second Zoe,” Alex said. Zoe could hear him set the phone down and open a door. A couple of minutes later he was back. “Wow, it’s pretty cold out here.” He said.

“What did you give them?” Zoe asked super curious, “A bunch of coupons for free and smoothies from the new place.” Alex said, making Zoe giggle. After a moment he started to giggle with her. “That’s so random!” Zoe said.

“I know.” He laughed. After their laughter had died down, he sighed. “Thanks for calling me Alex,” Zoe said.

”I was glad we had this little conversation together.” she continued. ”Anytime Zoe,” He said repeating what she had said to him In the nurse’s office. She bit her lips! “Oh, and Zoe?” He said. “Yes?” She mumbled. “Remember how I once said you owe me?” He asked.

“Yeah?” Zoe replied hesitantly.

“Well, you don’t anymore.” He said.

“Lex?” She called stunned.

“Happy festive celebration, Zoe,” He cut in. There were so many things she could have said to him right there. So many things but Zoe didn’t because she wasn’t really sure how. No, because she was a coward.

She took a deep breath. “Happy festive period Alex.” She muttered.

It was Sunday and the break was still on. Zoe sat Zack on the table while she made some cereal, Luke texted to ask if he could come over and Zoe had said yes. She was bored and needed to talk to somebody! She has decided since the whole discovering her true feeling for Alex.

She was wondering whether to ask Luke if they could! Wait, she doesn’t know, just cool it for a bit maybe.

She actually didn’t know how he was going to feel about this. They have been in this relationship for half a year. A whole freaking half of the year of high school, how the f**k does any relationship last half a year! Especially in high school? I mean one of the most toxic places ever.

Plus, he had always been her rock. the one person who never judges her and loves her no matter what. If Dora and Bella never existed, she thinks Luke would have been her Best Friend! He also never pressured her for s*x, which is like a miracle.

He could have any girl in school, what with him being on the basketball team and everything. But he was with her, the prig, sigh! Zoe was a little afraid that if she asked for a break he would realize she didn’t want to be with him anymore.

How could she handle that? Of course, if they break up! She would have had the chance to be with Alex but the one problem was, Bella.

Actually, two problems. What if Alex doesn’t share her feelings and wants to truly be with Bella over her? In times like this, she would remember what her grandmother would say. ”Well sweetie pie looks like you are in quite a pickle!” she would say! Yep, grams got it right.

Zoe sat close to Zack on the table and helped him scoop and bite his cereal with her spoon. The doorbell rang, making Zack jump to get the door. “Luke,” He screamed happily.

“Hey, buddy!” Luke said doing some hand gestures with Zack, which totally looked adorable.

He came over to Zoe and kissed her. They pulled away to notice Zack covering his face. “There is a baby here guys?” Zack said, making them both laugh.

“Hey,” Luke said.

“Hey,” Zoe said back.

He reached over and held her hands! Their hands fit well together, God. Everything is so complicated. Zoe looked over at Luke and he was looking back at her with a smile. She loves this guy so much, how could she love someone else when she had him?

Zoe knew doing made her a crappy person. “Something wrong Zoe?” Luke asked. Some of the things she must be thinking must have shown on her face, she smiled and shrugged. “I and Zack were about to play in the snow, care to join us?” She lied, making Zack nod like she had said it since.

“Of course,” He said before kissing her again.

The snow was pretty falling and they kept molding snow to hit one another. Zack insisted on going to get one of his toys to defeat us. Immediately after he left, Luke put his arm around Zoe’s waist and pulled her close. “Err, come here baby, and keep me warm.” He said and nuzzled his face on her hair. She had yet to bring up the discussion about possibly taking a break.

Now was a good time. “Hey, uhmm Luke!” Zoe said hesitantly. “Yeah, babe?” he replied. “Uhm, I think we need to talk.” She said pulling away before taking a deep breath, this was going to be uncomfortable! He was watching her intently.

Oh, how would she start? She kept her eyes on the ground. “Well, things lately got me feeling like we are going too, I don’t know! Fast, like we haven’t been on the same page and stuff.” Zoe tried to explain, she felt him brush out some snow from her hair while she continued.

“Maybe, maybe we should take a break?” She finished. He didn’t say anything so she glanced up at him, he was chewing on his lips! Maybe he was thinking it over. “Luke?” She said,

“You want us to break up?” He asked. Zoe quickly shook her head. “No!” no,” no.” I don’t want to break up with you! I mean I love you. I just think we__ things are just happening really fast lately and we both need to get some space.” Zoe said.

“Space?” He repeated and she nodded her head hoping he would understand. “Zoe, If it is about the s-x thing, I won’t bother you any longer! I mean I can wait.” He said, sounding a little upset.

Zoe hugged him, “oh, no Luke! That’s not it, really.” She said, He pulled back to see her face. “Then what is it, Zoe?” Luke demanded. Zoe wasn’t quite sure of what to say, his expression changed all of a sudden.

“Is it because of that Alex guy?” He asked quietly. “Luke?” She called again. “Are you cheating on me with him? Are you leaving me for him?” He kept demanding.

“Luke, just be quiet for a second.” Zoe practically yelled. He just gazed at her speechlessly, and she sighed. “Listen to me please, I love you, okay? I’m not cheating on you! I can’t believe you even said that in the first place. Anyway, I do not want to break up with you! God, I just think I need a breather to evaluate our relationship, that kind of stuff.” She explained.

“Oh,” He said, looking sheepish. “Yeah,” Zoe said before stepping back and kicking some snow out of her boots. “I’m sorry Zoe, I was kind of being stupid,” Luke said. “It’s fine Luke, I understand,” she said with a shrug.

“Seriously I shouldn’t have accused you.” He said. “Drop it! Okay?” She said and looked at him and he nodded, they happened to just stand there awkwardly for a bit.

Zack came back and showed them his defending partner. They played for a while before Zoe went to the kitchen to make juice, Luke followed her and she looked at him hoping he wasn’t mad at her.

“Zoe?” He called.

“yes,” she replied.

“I don’t want us to fight seriously. If you want us to take a break! It’s totally fine with me.” He said. Zoe let out a sigh of relief and hugged him. “Thanks, Luke. You don’t know how much this means to me.” She said and kissed his neck, he wrapped his arm tightly around her waist.

“Whatever makes you happy, I just don’t want to lose you,” He said. Ugh, he would have to say that, wouldn’t he? They sat down on the couch eating snacks and watching tv! When the movie was over, Luke left.

Zoe was glad that everything had sort of worked out. They were going to take a short break, Zoe knew Luke didn’t want to but he was definitely doing this for her! Like any good boyfriend would. He was making sure she was happy and got what she wanted.

Zoe totally knows that she doesn’t deserve Luke at all. Oh well, at least she had some free time to figure things out, as hard as it may seem.

She needed to know who her soulmate was. Was it Luke or Alex?
