They shared jokes as pots and pans clattered on stoves mixed with their cheerful laughter.
Lina turned to watch Diana laugh. Damn, she's so beautiful... wonder why she's single.
"I love the way your body shakes when you laugh." Lina complimented, admirably.
"Thanks". Diana said, having suspicions.
"For a charming lady like you, I didn't expect to meet you single". She asserted, watching Diana's expression which had turned cold.
"Men are all liars". Diana shrugged and continued chopping the pepper. Lina got the clue.
"Have you also tasted the bitter fruit of breakup?" Lina teased but Diana didn't find it funny.
Diana walked to the kitchen table and sat down. With a sad expression on her face, she recounted her breakup experience to Lina, who listened attentively.
"I can't believe he lied to me like that," Diana said, sombrely. "I trusted him with everything and he just threw it all away. I felt like such a fool. Him hiding such crucial information from me."
Lina reached across the table and took Diana's hand, giving it a sympathetic squeeze. "I'm so sorry, Diana. That must have been really tough. But you know what they say, better to find out now than later."
Diana chuckled "I know, I just can't help feeling hurt and betrayed. I thought he was the one, you know?".
"Where's he now?" Lina asked before chiding herself for spewing such nonsense. "I'm sorry I asked...".
Diana raised up her hand to stop her from speaking "I didn't complete it. He was my tenant and I had to kick him out".
Lina's eyes widened in surprise at Diana's words and she shook her head.
"I can't live with my ex, you know?". Diana's attempt at sounding casual failed.
Lina nodded understandingly, but then she hesitated before speaking. "I know you're hurting, Diana, but I have to be honest with you. I think you're being a bit too sensitive about this whole thing. I mean, it was just a little white lie, right?" Diana's eyes widened in shock. "A little white lie? Are you kidding me, Lina? He lied about his entire past, about who he was and what he'd done. How can you even say that?"
Lina shrugged. "I don't know, I guess I just think you're making a big deal out of nothing. Maybe you should just try to move on and forget about it."
Diana couldn't believe what she was hearing. She stood up, shaking with anger. "How can you say that? How can you be so insensitive to my feelings? I thought you were my friend."
Lina stood up too, her face contorted with frustration. "I am your friend, Diana, but I also think you're being unreasonable. You're acting like this is the end of the world, when really it's just a small bump in the road. You'll get over it and find someone better. That one lied doesn't mean another will. Don't shut them out, please".
"I don't know what you're talking about. I was fine and I'm still fine without love, okay? Just so you know, you can't tell me how to live my life!" Diana raved.
Diana stormed out of the kitchen, feeling hurt and betrayed by Lina's words. She couldn't believe that her best friend didn't understand how she was feeling. She hated it when people said that she blew things out of proportion.
The next few days were tense between Diana and Lina as they avoided each other and tried to move on from their argument. Diana couldn't shake the feeling that Lina had let her down, and she was hurt that her friend didn't seem to understand her point.
Diana was a mess at keeping malice. She resolved to make peace with Lina and also try to love again as Lina had advised.
Diana decided to reach out to Lina and apologize for overreacting. She found her friend sitting on the couch, scrolling through her phone with a bored look on her face.
"Hey, Lina," Diana said softly, "I'm sorry about the other day. I was upset and I took it out on you. I shouldn't have done that."
Lina looked up and gave Diana a small smile. "It's okay, Diana. I'm sorry too. I shouldn't have brushed off your feelings like that. I'm here for you, no matter what."
Diana felt a wave of relief wash over her. She sat down next to Lina and gave her a hug. "Thanks, Lina. I really appreciate it. I think I needed to hear that."
Lina hugged her back and then grinned mischievously. "So, what do you say we do to celebrate our friendship and move on from all this drama? I know just the thing - let's go out and party!"
Diana laughed and shook her head. "I don't know, Lina. I'm not really in the mood to go out and get crazy."

Lina pouted and pleaded with her best friend. "Come on, Diana. You're nothing like this, I love the wild you. These few days has been booorrringgg without partying".
Diana rolled her eyes at her friend's dramatic nature.
Diana hesitated for a moment, but then she sighed and gave in. "Okay, okay. You're right. Let's go out and party."
Lina whooped with delight and jumped up from the couch. "Yes! I knew you couldn't resist my charms. Now let's get dressed and hit the town!"
Diana rolled her eyes and laughed, feeling grateful to have Lina in her life. She knew that her friend would always be there to push her out of her comfort zone and encourage her to have a good time.
When they arrived at the club, Lina grabbed Diana's hand and pulled her onto the dance floor. They danced and sang along to the music, losing themselves in the moment..
As the night went on, Lina coaxed Diana into trying new things and meeting new people. They flirted with men, drank cocktails, and laughed until their sides hurt.
When the night finally came to an end, Lina and Diana stumbled home, giggling and exhausted.
As they collapsed into bed, Lina turned to Diana and said, "I'm so glad we did this tonight! It was fun!" Drunk Lina screamed.
"Yo baby girlll! We signed our names on the hearts of men there. I missed clubbing, gosh!". Diana exclaimed too.
And with that, the two women drifted off to sleep, feeling grateful for each other.
