Chapter 64
Chapter 64
As they left the church, Diana and Sam walked arm in arm, both feeling a sense of joy and peace. They stopped for a moment to sit on a bench outside and take in the beautiful day.
"I can't believe how much better I feel," Daina said. "I wasn't enthusiastic about coming to church, but now I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders."
"I'm so glad you came with me," Sam replied. Let's sit here and wait a little for Kenneth and the kids. He usually goes to pick them up in the children's section after church".
As they sat there, enjoying the sunshine and waiting for Kenneth, Sam couldn't help but feel grateful for the gift of friendship and the power of faith. She knew that this day would always be special to both of them and that they would always have each other to turn to in times of need.
"Mummy!!!!" Sam's two children ran into her open arms. "I loved the service. Our teacher taught us that we are God's, just like God in heaven". "Wow! That's lovely." Daina smiled. Wondering what that was about. If she was a God wouldn't she have people to worship her? Such fallacy!
Diana sat at her desk, staring at her computer screen as she tried to focus on her work. She had been struggling to concentrate all morning, her mind constantly drifting to the phone call she had received from her mother the previous evening. Her mother had called, pleading with Diana to help her out financially. She had fallen on hard times and needed money to pay her rent and bills.
Diana had been hesitant at first, knowing that her mother had never been there for her when she needed her. But something in her mother's voice had tugged at her heartstrings and she had eventually agreed to help out.
"Hello daughter, how have you been?" Her mother had spoken faintly into the phone.
"Been good, mum. What's up with you". Daina responded, wondering why her mother would call her in the first place before even asking about how she fared.
"Uhmmm... Diana? I need some help. I need some financial help". Her last words had ended with a cough.
"Are you serious? I knew you wouldn't ever call me unless you're in a fix. Well, bad news mum... I don't have any money to give you". Diana spoke rashly.

"Please, I'm very sick and I don't have..."
"Hahaha, have your numerous boyfriend's abandoned you already? that you're now broke and looking for who to live off on?". Daina fired.
Her mother tried to talk again but Daina was too blinded by anger to listen to her.
"I don't care if you're sick unto death, mum because, you were never there for me and you always made me feel unwanted. I'm now a slut like you. Giving any available man access to my vagina. I hate you and I hate that you raised me. Don't ever call this number! " Daina raved and ended the call. She had tossed her phone on the bed and covered her face with her hands as tears rolled down.
But as the day went on, Diana began to second guess her decision. She remembered all the times her mother had let her down, all the times she had chosen her own needs over her daughter's. She remembered how her mother had always been too busy with her own life to be there for her and how she had always put her own desires before her daughter's.
As the day went on, Diana's resentment towards her mother grew. She couldn't understand why her mother was reaching out to her now, after all these years of neglect. She couldn't understand why her mother expected her to just hand over money when she had never been there for her.
Finally, as the day came to a close, Diana made up her mind. She couldn't bring herself to give her mother the financial aid she needed. She couldn't pretend that everything was okay between them when it wasn't. She couldn't just sweep all the hurt and resentment under the rug.

So, with a heavy heart, Diana picked up the phone and called her mother. The desperate woman picked on the first ring.
"Daina darling" She rushed to speak. Diana rolled her eyes, she couldn't be deceived by her mother's feigned kindness.
"I called with reference to your money request. I can't give you any money mum." Daina started but her mother won't let her finish.
"Daina, please I'm scared. I might die ". Her mother pleaded weakly.
"Don't give me that mum... don't get all emotional on me. I know it's a venereal disease and I can't keep sponsoring your promiscuity. Thanks". She concluded even though her heart was squeezing against her chest and she was at the verge of years.
Her mother was shocked and hurt by Diana's words, but Diana knew that it was the right thing to do. She couldn't pretend that everything was okay between them when it wasn't. She couldn't just turn a blind eye to all the pain and hurt that her mother had caused her.
As she hung up the phone, Diana couldn't help but feel a sense of sadness and loss. She knew that the closest thing to a relationship with her mother would never be the same again, but she also knew that she had done the right thing. She had stood up for herself and had made it clear that she wouldn't be taken for granted anymore.
In the days and weeks that followed, Diana struggled with feelings of guilt and regret. She couldn't help but wonder if she had made the right decision and if she would ever be able to repair her relationship with her mother.
But as time passed, she began to see things more clearly. She realized that her mother had to take responsibility for her own actions and that she couldn't just expect her daughter to fix everything.
