Her King

Chapter 23

Regina’s POV

The last fifteen days have been nothing but filled with craziness, all good sort of craziness.

Firstly, I am married to the vampire King... well, not according to human traditions but in the eyes of his world. In my world, we are still dating, the term which Atlas hates like anything. I have learned so much about his family, and honestly, the more I know the more fascinated I feel.

Atlas’s family used to rule a vampire kingdom many years ago, like thousands of years ago, when the existence of vampires was not hidden from the humans. His father was the last King, after his death, the title was passed down to Atlas because he is the firstborn of the family.

However, due to the constant threat from hunters and for the welfare of his people, he dissolved his kingdom and helped his people settle around different parts of the world to keep his race safe. As living in a large population in one area means drawing constant attention and danger. But he is still technically their King and still very respected among them because he thought of his people before anything else. He willingly gave up his power, because he chose his people.

He said he wanted to rule their hearts, not to exercise his dominance over them and watch them killed just for the sake of keeping his hold on the land.

When he talks about his people, you can see the compassionate and fierce King who is ready to do anything for his people.

How can a man with such a beautiful heart be a monster?

Because of how much I have known him, he is nothing but a great person. And every day my love for him increases.

Another weird thing that I found after being mated to Atlas is that there are many vampires around us which I was never aware of before. Now, I can easily identify them, and honestly, it is not that hard when you get subtle bows from random people around you. Apparently, it is not a secret in his world that he has found his soul.

Walking around my desk I pick up my phone as it blares snapping me out of my thoughts.

“Any good news?” I ask as soon as I answer my phone.

“Hello to you, too, cousin.” Raymond’s voice comes through the phone and I can imagine him rolling his eyes.

“I am waiting, Raymond.” I raise my eyebrows, “Did you find anything useful?”

“Not anything much, however, from what I have figured the person who is plotting against the company is someone from the board of members.” He huffs, “Earl is also trying to find from his end, he says he has doubts on some people but he is not sure so he will not name anyone as he is aware of your temper.” He chuckles and this time I roll my eyes.

“Keep me informed.” I nod my head, “And what do you know about Carlos?” I ask him while raising my head towards the door when I hear the soft knocking on my office door.

Walking to the door, I open it to find Atlas standing outside, probably coming directly from his office. Motioning him to come inside, I place a quick kiss to his lip then I resume my previous position near the table as I continue talking to Raymond.

I watch Atlas lock the door behind him, and when he removes his dark shades I get a clear look of the golden ring flickering around his irises which is an obvious giveaway of his need... feeding need.

Even after all these days, Atlas’s feeding habit didn’t change he takes a few drops of my blood a couple of times a day. He doesn’t know why he can’t control his urge, but he thinks it has something to do with the bonding we share. He also feels after the completion of our bond his beast has turned more powerful than before so his desire to be near me is forcing him to take my blood because more than feeding it means bonding with his soul.

Sharing blood is something really intimate and the ultimate form of trust, so each time he takes from me, it only strengthens our bond more.

I often tease him that he treats me as a refill station, he feels extremely guilty but he says his beast drives him crazy with need and he can’t help it.

He throws his coat on the couch as he walks towards me, while I start unbuttoning my shirt balancing my phone between my shoulder and ear, so that he can access my mark. Holding my chin, he captures my lips in a heart-flipping kiss making it difficult for me to focus on Raymond’s words as I tightly grab my phone in my hand before it falls on the floor.

He looks at me with mischievousness when he breaks the kiss, knowing full well of the effect of his kiss has on me. Then leaning his back on the table and pulls me between his legs and wraps his arms around me from behind.

“I will ask Julian to give time to Carlos as his secretary has called him a few times to arrange a meeting with me, then let’s decide what we should do with him.” I hang up the call.

“What about Carlos?” He asks as he massages my shoulders.

“Raymond and I have a doubt on him that he is the one who is trying to mess with us, and we have a rat in our board members who is working for him.” I sigh as he works on my stiff back muscles. “I will ask my secretary, Julian, to schedule a meeting with Carlos to find out what does he wants. He seems a little impatient to meet me because in the past month numerous times his secretary tried to arrange a meeting with me.”

“Be careful, Regina,” He speaks quietly, “I don’t like this guy. He seems a bit off.”

“Don’t worry, I will.” I smile at his concern.

“So, if you are done with your talks.” I expose my mark, “I would like to quench my beast’s thirst.” Turning my head, I raise my eyebrows at him.

He grins, showing his teeth and then his fangs elongate just before my eyes.

“Show off.” I shake my head at him with a roll of an eye, and turn around facing my head to the other side, making him chuckle loudly.

Placing his nose in the crook of my neck, he inhales deeply as low snarls pass through his lips. My breath hitches in my throat when he sinks his teeth in my flesh.

I lean back in his chest as he holds me against himself while he takes from me what is his.

“Atlas, stop sniffing me.” I bite my lip to stop myself from laughing, as he holds my hand against his nose while he continues to sniff me.

As usual, after taking my blood he wanted to feed me. I decided to have milkshake a few streets away from my office so we take a stroll towards the cafe.

But throughout the walk, which was hardly ten minutes, Atlas’s nose keeps on scrunching from time to time while he mutters something about nasty smelling humans. However, his tolerance level reached it’s limit when a woman passed by him wearing heavy perfume and since then he keeps on sniffing my hand.

“Atlas, tonight we are having a family dinner at my uncle’s place,” I inform him as he pays for my milkshake. “Nonna invited you as well.”

“I know, I got Anna's call after she has called you.” He slips his hand back in mine as we leave the cafe, walking back towards my office, because it was crowded.

“Atlas, my entire extended family will be there,” I inform him, silently praying he would decline to come with me, “If you don’t want to come, I am not going to force you.”

This will be the first time, I am taking a guy to meet my family and I know they are going to give me a hard time for all the times when I vowed in front of them that I will never fall in love let alone to get married. Now they are going to meet the man to whom I am almost married.

“Regina, I am not a teenage boy who is going to be afraid to meet his girl’s family. So, have a little faith in me, I can handle myself,” He smiles reassuringly, “Moreover, I have to meet them at some point in time so we should get over with this.” He pecks my lips.

I give him a smile but from inside I am nervous as hell not for him but for poor me.
