Chapter 26 — Family
Rebecca woke up the day of the party because she was feeling uncomfortable. She was used to feeling comfortable most of the time lately. The last few weeks she had gotten even bigger. She was sleeping less and less because of the discomfort. Vincent had tried to help. He rubbed her back before she laid down and her foot massage started the moment her feet hit the pillow every night. He said nothing when she spent the night flipping and flopping just moved with her. When she finally had enough of trying, which was usually very early morning, he would get up with her. Filling the bathtub with warm water and relaxing oils that he had made sure were safe for her, he would help her in before he went to go make her breakfast. After helping her out of the tub and feeding her, he would rub whatever part of her body ached until she would fall asleep.
She decided that she would get up and help Vincent today. It was a big day and of all days he deserved to be treated like he treated her every day. He wouldn't take a bath, she tried to get him to join her several times but he always refused, telling her that bathes were for women. She could make him his breakfast and coffee though. She slowly eased herself out of bed. It wasn't easy and when her feet finally hit the bed, she heard Vincent move which caused her to freeze. When she was sure he wasn't awake, she let out the breath she had been holding. She didn't waste time putting clothes on her robe over the shirt of Vincent's that she wore to bed would be fine. She would have to put her gown on later and dressing herself took a lot of energy so, she didn't see the point in getting dressed until then.
She made her way to the kitchen and started a pot of coffee before starting on his bacon, eggs and pancakes. Vincent walked in as she finished plating his food. "Damn it," she sighed when she saw him standing in front of her. "I wanted to bring you breakfast in bed." Vincent laughed as he walked toward her.
"Thank you, Amore," he kissed her on the cheek and took the plate from her hands. "You didn't have to do this," he sat at the breakfast table. Rebecca pour his coffee before sitting down across from him. "I wanted to," she shrugged.
"Where's yours?" He stopped eating when he noticed she wasn't doing the same.
"I'm not hungry," she smiled.
"Nope. Not happening," he shook his head. "Our children need to eat." Rebecca could tell that he wasn't happy and that he wasn't going to take no for an answer.
"Fine I'll eat, a little," she got up and made a plate. Vincent went back to eating.
"We have a long day ahead of us and I need you to take it easy," he told her when she sat back down at the table with him. Rebecca nodded. She knew that he was stressed and the last thing he needed was her not feeling well or being too tired to make it through the party. She wouldn't mess this day up for him. "This was amazing, Rebecca," he stood up and walked to the sink. "I'm going to shower," he kissed her cheek. "Feel free to join me." Rebecca laughed and shook her head but got up to follow him anyway.
Rebecca spent the rest of the day trying to get Vincent to relax with not much success. He was too busy thinking about what the end of the day was to bring. The family may have stopped fight against him taking over publicly but he knew there was still the off chance that someone wouldn't want he in charge. "Why are you not as nervous as I am?" He asked Rebecca as he tied his tie. Rebecca was standing in the bathroom curling her hair but he heard her laugh at his question. "Why are you nervous?" She asked as she finished her hair and walked out of the bathroom. "You have been preparing for this day since you were born," she stopped on her way to the closet and adjusted his tie. She kissed his lips and continued to the closet. "Everything will be fine. And next time I spend the day trying to get you to relax, listen to me." Vincent took a deep breath.
"You're right, Amore," he put his suit jacket on. "Thank you."
"That's my job," she smiled at him walking out in her dress.
"You look amazing," he said turning toward her. He felt his breath catch. There she stood in a baby pink dress that reached the floor. The flowing fabric draped over her pregnant stomach beautifully. The lace that covered her top and arms added just the right amount of detail. Rebecca smiled looking up at him and pecked his lips.
"Are you ready?" she asked him. Vincent nodded his head.
"Let's go," he led her out of the bedroom and down to the car where Kert was waiting for them.
When they got to his parents' house, Vincent helped Rebecca out of the car. She turned to him as she looped her arm through his. "You got this. Big Bad Mafia man," she winked at him. This caused him to laugh and he knew exactly what his mother had meant when she said that he needed a queen. He couldn't imagine her not being by his side.
"Thank you," he kissed her. When he pulled back, he looked her directly in the eyes, "Ti amerò mentre ho ancora vita," he whispered.
"I will love you the same," she smiled. They turned without another word and walked into the house.
"Vinny, Rebecca," Nadia greeted them. Vincent sighed he knew there was no point to tell him mother that he was too old for her to call him that but he wished she would stop. Rebecca laughed as she watched his face contort. "You look beautiful," Nadia told Rebecca as she pulled her into a hug. She rubbed her stomach when they separated before turning to her son. "You are all grown up," she said her voice cracking. She tried to hold back the tears she felt coming. "Awe, Figlio," Francesco greeted them with wide open arms. Vincent greeted his father stepping aside afterward. "Rebecca," he pulled her into a hug. "you are glowing beautifully," he told her. Rebecca blushed and Vincent laughed. "I say the same thing every day and you don't blush," he whispered in her ear. Rebecca shrugged.
"I guess he just has more charm then you," she kissed his cheek and turned back to his parents as Roxy and Vanessa came walking up to them.
"Wow," Vanessa said rubbing her stomach. "Look at you, ready to pop!" Rebecca laughed with a nod.
"It's time," Francesco told them. Vincent kissed Rebecca before following his father to the stage they had set up in front of everyone. "Famiglia," Francesco addressed everyone. "If you could all take your seats." He waited for everyone to take their seats before he started again. "As you all know, I have led this family for nearly thirty-two years and while I have loved it, it is time for someone new to take over." He turned to wave Vincent over to him. "I am very proud to announce that my son, Vincent, will be taking over. He has dedicated his life to learning everything I could teach him and working hard to ensure that we stay on top. We all remember what happened last year when Enzo Morandi tried to overthrow us," there was a raise in noise as everyone spoke about what they remembered if the event. Francesco held his hand up to quiet everyone. "Vincent made sure that he did not succeed and I know I am very grateful for his actions." Everyone nodded in agreement. "So, Vincent Bellandini, I Francesco Bellandini, give you control of the Bellandini Family as well as all the families of Italy," Francesco turned to Vincent hugging him. Vincent turned to address the family when they pulled away. He took a deep breath and found Rebecca who was smiling at him with pride.
"I Vincent Bellandini, accept the responsibility of leading the Bellandini family as well as all the families of Italy," he said looking around the room. "I want to let you all know, that I plan to led this family just as well as my father did for all these years. I will do everything to make you all proud of our family," he turned to look at Rebecca motioning her to come to the stage. She furrowed her brows but he continued to motion to her so she reluctantly stood. "I now want to officially introduce you to my wife and your queen, Rebecca Bellandini." Everyone clapped as Rebecca approached Vincent to stand beside him with a smile.
"It's my honor, to be your queen and serve you for as long as you will have me," she spoke the words Nadia had told her were traditional. She looked to Vincent who was smiling with so much love and pride which made her feel amazing. She wanted nothing more than for him to be happy in his life and with her.
As soon as both of her feet were on the floor, Vanessa grabbed her arm. "Vince, I'll go introduce her," she stated. Vincent nodded before turning to Rebecca whose eyes were wide. She was under the impression that he would be with her for that part of the night but he just smiled at her.
"I have a few men I need to speak with. Go speak to the women, I will be there soon," he kissed her forehead and walked away.
"He plays it off well," Vanessa said from her side. Rebecca looked at her with a frown. "Don't worry. He just asked for me to be the one. He wanted you to receive authentic reactions and you wouldn't with him. It will be good for you to know who does and doesn't approve of you... Yet." Vanessa pulled her to a small group of women who all smiled at her. She introduced each along with their husband's titles. The four women were all around Rebecca's age and seemed to approve of her.
"You are so beautiful," one told her. She said a quick thank you. "My husband is a high ranking solider," the women continued. "I am sure we will see a lot of one another."
"Milly, here helps with the off-day events," Vanessa told Rebecca. She smiled and nodded Nadia had told her about the day once a month that the family men, women, and children got together to relax and enjoy being one big family. "I look forward to working with you," Rebecca smiled. The women spoke a little. Milly shared some new ideas she had for the off-day event that was coming up in two weeks before Vanessa cut in.
"I need to take Rebecca to go meet some others," she told the women who said their goodbyes. Vanessa pulled Rebecca past a group of three older women who she noticed sent her glares as they whispered to one another. "Ignore them. You will prove to them that you are the right pick for Vince and the family. They will shut up one day." Rebecca waved it off and held her head high as they walked toward an even older couple that was speaking to someone. When they got closer, she saw that they were speaking to Vincent.

"Hello, Mi Amore," he said placing one hand on her lower back and the other on her stomach. "Are you alright? I saw those women making faces," he whispered into her ear. Rebecca nodded her head.
"I won't let anyone bother me. They will see that I am perfect soon," she winked at him. Vincent laughed as well as the couple that he had been speaking with.
"That's the attitude of a true queen," the women said. Rebecca blushed not realizing that she had said that loud enough for them to hear. "Marybeth," the women extended her hand for Rebecca to shake.
"Lovely to meet you," Rebecca said. She knew who she was and it was an honor to meet her. "Vince, you didn't tell me your grandparents would be here," Rebecca raised a brow at him.
"My apologies," he bit his lip.
"My grandson has always had a bit of a memory problem when he gets busy," Marybeth said. Rebecca say Vincent blush and laughed a little. "We are sorry we were unable to attend the parties for the babies or your wedding. We had a little trouble over in Italy."
"I hope everything is fine now," Rebecca said with concern in her voice. Marybeth waved her arm around.
"All is well," she smiled. "Vincent," she turned to her husband, "do introduce yourself to your granddaughter." The man that stood just a little behind the women reached a hand out.
"Vincent Bellabdini... the first," the man said. Rebecca shook his hand. He was the first man in the family that allowed his wife to be his equal. Marybeth had just as much power as him. He also who Vincent had been named after. Rebecca respected him for being so bold. "I think you will make a beautiful queen. Just like the others before you," he smiled at his wife.
"I look forward to proving myself," Rebecca smiled.
"I think I will accompany my wife for the rest of her introductions, if you will excuse us," Vincent told his grandparents who nodded.
"It really is an honor to meet you both. I hope you will be in town long enough to meet your great grandchildren," she rubbed her stomach.
"We hope so as well," Marybeth smiled.
It was two hours later when they had spoken with everyone and Vincent noticed that Rebecca was not looking well. "I think it's time to head home," he said to her. Rebecca didn't want to show weakness and leave early but she knew that it was best for the children so she nodded. Vincent told her to wait there sitting her in a chair at one of the tables and went to tell his parents they were leaving. When he came back, he helped her back up and walked her toward the front door. They were stopped a few times explaining that they were leaving early because growing two children at once was extremely tiring. Making it out ten minutes later, they climbed in the car and Kert drove them home.
"It's official," Rebecca smiled as she walked to the front door. Vincent nodded opening the door for her.
"Yes, you are officially my wife," he kissed her.
"Not that," Rebecca slapped him on the shoulder laughing. "You're capo." Vincent nodded.

"Oh yeah, that too," he smiled when she rolled her eyes. "Why don't I take you upstairs, Mrs. Bellandini," Vincent wrapped his arms around her.
"Please do," she sighed, "I am exhausted and not feeling great." Vincent nodded and picked her up bridal style to take her to their room. "Vince. I am too heavy," she shouted at him. Vincent chuckled.
"No, you aren't," he shook his head. When they reached their room, he kicked the door open and walked toward their bed. He laid her down. "Do you want me to stay with you? Can I get you anything?" Rebecca shook her head. "No. I am just going to get into some pajama's and go to sleep." Vincent nodded.
"Okay. I will be in the office for a little bit, okay?" Rebecca kissed him.
"Okay." Vincent left the room as Rebecca got off the bed and headed for the bathroom. She brushed her teeth and removed her makeup before leaving the room and going to the walk in closest to grab one of Vincent's shirts to sleep in. She reached for the top shelf for the shirt when she felt wet between her legs. Looking down her eyes widened. "Oh shit," she whispered to herself. "Vince!" She yelled for him. She grabbed a pair of his sweats and a shirt. "Vince," she yelled again as she changed her clothes. When she was done, she walked out of the closet, "Vince!"
"What is it?" Vincent huffed walking into the room. His eyes widened when he saw her face crumbled in pain. "What's wrong?"
"My water broke. We need to get to the hospital," she told him. Vincent nodded and sprang into action. He picked her up and carried her to the car they had deemed the family car. A hospital bag was packed along with the car seat strapped in and ready. Vincent started the car and raced to the hospital while Rebecca sent a group text to everyone about what was going on.
"Our parents are meeting us there," she told him as she gritted her teeth when she felt a contraction.
"Just hold on, Amore," Vincent reached over and grabbed her hand letting her squeeze it.
It took about ten minutes to get to the hospital. They took her in straight to her private suite. Rebecca was in labor for four hours, Vincent by her side the entire time holding her hand and encouraging her to keep pushing. When they came, they were healthy and Rebecca couldn't be happier than to be done with it all.
Two days later, they were getting ready to head home. "I love you," Vincent whispered into her ear as she held their daughter, Ivy. "Thank you for them," he looked down at Lucca, their son.
"He looks like you," Rebecca smiled at the two most important men in her life.
"And she looks like you," Vincent told her, "beautiful and perfect." Rebecca smiled back at him.
"Just think. If I didn't let you take me home that night. We wouldn't have them," she smiled. Vincent smiled back at her. "Well, why don't you let me take all three of you home?" Vincent bit his lip trying not to smile at his own cheesiness. "You all are my home," she told him. It was the truest thing she had ever said. They were and would always be her home.
