Chapter 65
Chapter 65
Terence stood by Lily's side, and after helping her settle into the chair, he released his hand.
"What happened?"
Lily brushed back her hair and forced a faint smile as she shook her head. "Nothing."
She accidentally raised her shirt collar, revealing the faint hickeys on her fair neck, which caught his gaze.
"Are you getting used to the work?"
He didn't want her to know he had been quietly working behind the scenes, so he hadn't checked on her during her first day at the company.
"It's going alright," she replied. She kept the fact that Nadia was reluctant to accept her to herself.
She adjusted her mindset. With Sarah's temperament, their upcoming interactions wouldn't be easy. She would have difficulty keeping this job if she didn't brace herself.
She hadn't considered whether Sarah had found out she was working here and had come on purpose. All she knew was that Sarah could use any excuse to have her replaced. She had no other options.
After straightening her clothes, she stood up and slightly nodded to Terence.
"Terence... I mean, Mr. Devereux, I'll return to work now."
His hand curled slightly at his side as he watched her.
Without waiting for a response, she brushed past him and left the waiting room.
His brow alternated between relaxed and furrowed as he watched her retreating figure. After a moment, he sighed and left as well.
The moment Lily returned to her workstation, Nadia came over.
"This is Ms. Lynde's business card. Contact her to arrange a time to take measurements at her home."
Sarah Lynde-Vice President and Head of Public Relations at Nova Group.
The card was made from thick, high-quality material with gold-embossed edges. It was similar to Xavier's. When Lily first saw Xavier's card, she secretly kept one because she liked it so much.
She accepted the card. "Got it."
"Are you sure you don't know Sarah? Do you have some kind of grudge?" Nadia still felt something was off.
She had previously sent Sarah a photo of Lily and Queenie slacking off at work. Sarah had never mentioned knowing Lily, but when they met, she acted like she did, and the atmosphere between them was unusual. Had she been used?
Lily took a deep breath and looked up at Nadia. "I might have met her before, but it didn't leave a strong impression."
Nadia frowned and waved her hand. "Fine. Deal with it yourself."
At this point, it was too late to find out more. Whether or not there was a history between Lily and Sarah, she wasn't keeping an assistant who relied on backdoors and lacked ability. Not wanting to call Sarah, Lily added her on WhatsApp instead and texted her. "Ms. Lynde, this is Lily. When would be a good time for me to come by to take measurements?"
She sent the message, then glanced at Sarah's profile photo and instinctively tapped on it.
It was a picture of Sarah, taken around 18 or 19. Her face, which was now so striking, still had traces of youthful innocence.
Her eyes were dark, reflecting the person who took the photo.
Lily zoomed in on the photo.
In Sarah's eyes was an expanse of sky, a vast coastline, and the unmistakable figure of Xavier in the distance.
Without a close look, no one would notice.
Lily wouldn't have recognized that silhouette so quickly if she hadn't loved Xavier for two years.
Sarah replied, "Friday at 5:00 pm. I'll send the location then."
The sudden WhatsApp notification startled her, and she quickly closed the app. Out of sight, out of mind.
