Her Heart Her Terms (Lily and Xavier)

Chapter 64

Chapter 64

Lily smiled lightly and asked, "Could you please tell me your boyfriend's name? I'll need to verify it when I swipe the card."

She stood up while looking down at Sarah.

After a rough night, she wore heavier makeup today, making her features look even more refined.

In an instant, a subtle tension shifted between the two of them.

Lily wouldn't dare to make her relationship with Xavier public.

Would Sarah dare? Not a chance.

Rumors and reality were two different things.

In this circle, no one would take rumors seriously.

But if Sarah were to admit it, it would be different.

Sarah's smile gradually faded.

"Ms. Lynde, if it's inconvenient, perhaps you could use another card instead."

Lily placed the card back down and pushed it toward her.

She was asserting dominance. Nadia, who noticed it, immediately stepped in to help Sarah out.

"Lily, why are you prying so much? You were asked to swipe this card, so swipe it!"

Verifying the client's name was necessary for financial security, but withholding the name did not prevent the card from being used.

Lily didn't budge. "Verifying client information is company policy."

"You're quite the principled one, Ms. Joyner," Sarah said faintly. She put the card away. "But rules can be bent. Be it in the workplace, social dealings, or... even, in marriage-rules are useless. They can't confine people."

She then took out another card with her name on the back.

Annoyed by Lily's fussing, Nadia took the card and went to swipe it herself.

Only Lily and Sarah were left in the waiting room.

Sarah's smile gradually disappeared, and her demeanor became assertive. "Ms. Joyner, wouldn't you agree?"

Lily stood there. She was bathed in sunlight, but her back felt cold.

Her gaze was indifferent. "Rules may be useless, but anyone who disregards them is dirty and shameful."

"There is no absolute right or wrong in this world, only absolute power," Sarah said as she circled the table and walked beside Lily.

They were both in heels, but Lily stood half a head taller.

Sarah was so close to her face that it was almost unsettling. She was like a venomous snake poised to strike. "Do you dare to stand up to Xavier?" Lily clenched her teeth while standing tall. She turned and faced Sarah head-on. "He's just a worthless man. You can have him if you want."

Her heart was breaking, but she wouldn't let her pride falter in front of Sarah.

She had already suffered enough over Xavier and would not lose her dignity here.

Sarah got what she wanted. She guessed that Lily working here meant there was a rift between her and Xavier.

It didn't matter to her if the payment couldn't be made with his card. She wouldn't rush to make anything public until she completely severed the connection between Xavier and Lily, as it would be foolish.

A little prodding was enough; Lily was an easy target.

Sarah could be patient and wait. But this "little prodding" was already exhausting Lily.

Nadia returned with the card after making the payment and escorted Sarah out.

Lily's legs gave out when she was alone in the room. She leaned against the wall and slowly slid down.

Just as she was about to hit the floor, a slender hand caught her arm and helped her.

She turned to look back.
