(Book 5)- Chapter 39
Trinity
I ground my heel into the ground, Thaddeus gave a look of no questioning of his authority, but hell, I was going to do what I could to get Theon back. Who knows what lurked outside the territory with my father and a bunch of rogue supernaturals wandering about. Theon could be hurt, and Thaddeus may not realize it. He could be telling me a little fib just to make me feel better!
“Let’s go,” I huffed, walking past Thaddeus. I felt his body turn while he growled out at me. “Trinity, no,” the wolves in the room stood still. Thaddeus’ voice was quiet but radiated a power I had not felt before. It was authoritative and was meant to stop me in my tracks. It certainly stopped everyone else, but not me. I wasn’t going to succumb to a werewolf temper tantrum.
“Excuse me?” I turned. Wolves in the room duct their heads lower, showing their neck. Thaddeus had more power than I realized if everyone in the room stopped at his every word. Thaddeus’ strides were smooth as he met me from the ten feet I had gotten away from him.
“I said, no. We are to stay here until first light. Theon can handle himself; he’s an Alpha and has been trained in situations such as this.” My eyes narrowed, using my index finger, I tapped his chest.
“Well, his mate is here now, and I’m going to worry. I’ll get in my car and drive to town, see if we can find the truck he borrowed.”
I turned again, only to have my upper arm grabbed onto by Thaddeus’ large hands. He growled Damian, surfacing.
“You will stay here with the rest of us. You are the most at risk; why would I let you leave?” Wolves began to slip out of the room, the confrontation becoming too great. Stacy sat by Spencer, who still had his arm around her. From my peripheral vision, Stacy winked at me. My heart slowed, thinking of what she had planned.
My shoulders slumped visibly to Thaddeus. I was trying to admit defeat by my physical movements. “I’m just worried about him, Thaddeus. What if the mafia finds him?” My voice caught in my throat; it wasn’t acting; I really was concerned for my mate. Thaddeus pulled me closer, kissing the top of my head.
“He will be fine, trust me. In fact, he is probably distracted trying to come up with a perfect date for you. I giggled, hugging Thaddeus.
“Let’s get you back to the room; I’ll go do border patrol with the pack and see if I can sense him, alright?” I nodded, sneaking a peek at Stacy, who only pinched her lips together that were trying to smile.
….
Thaddeus had stripped to just basketball shorts while explaining the ‘rules.’ “Do not leave this room, Trinity.” I was laying on the bed, my head propped up by my palm, rolling my eyes as he spouts off something new and obscured to say. Sure, he was a good guy, making sure I don’t get taken away and back to my so-called, ‘dad.’ I thought I had proved myself earlier, I beat the tail of some she-wolf that was supposed to be the strongest warrior, and now I’m stuck in a room. I could be out helping. I growled silently to myself, mumbling obscenities about how I could kick Thaddeus’ a*s.
I had stopped paying attention a long time ago, and now Thaddeus stood over the bed with his arms crossed over his muscular chest. A wolf tattoo peeked over his shoulder, judging me. “Are you done?” his raspy voice shuttered my body all the way to between the apex of my thighs. Clenching my thighs together, he took a large sniff of the air. His own chest heaved, causing him to pounce me on the bed.
“Do you like it when I am angry?” His nose grazed my ear.
‘Yes sir, I do,’ I thought.
I didn’t have to answer him; the shutter in my body was enough to let him know what I was feeling. His demanding tone in the dining area was enough to get me started. Even with all the people around, I felt my s****l prowess coming to the surface.
“No, Sir,” I lied. Oh, my gracious, was he going to spank me? My toes wiggled at the excitement. Thaddeus moved his h**s, rubbing his shaft against my core.
“Really? Because your cunt is lying.” Thaddeus bit the side of my neck harshly; the sweet sting was followed by a gentle lick to soothe. I m****d into his ear, causing another swift griding motion to my lower body.
“Listen here Trinity,” the stones rubbing in his chest set my n*****s tight. “You stay here and be a good girl while I help the pack. Theon will be back; he is safe. By morning when he returns, make sure you are ready because our wolves aren’t going to wait anymore.”
Sweet baby Jesus.
Thaddeus gave an unsatisfying k**s to my cheek, bolting out the door before I could say another word.
Theon
I sat in silence; Folen crawled to the other end of the makeshift tent in a tree and pulled the woman into his lap. She was tall, just like Trinity for human standards. Trinity’s famous fire red hair laid on this same woman’s shoulders. Despite Folen having red hair himself, this woman had hair that could go a flame in the night.
“This is Evangeline, Trinity’s mother,” Folen spoke softly. My shock wasn’t there; I knew this woman had to be Trinity’s mother just by hair alone. Evangeline’s eyes were grey instead of Trinity’s green; they were dark, almost lifeless. Her skin also took a greyish color while she leaned on Folen’s chest.
“What the hell happened?” I whispered, unsure of the ground below me lurking with any rogues or mafia assailants. Since we weren’t in the pack territory, one couldn’t be too careful.
Evangeline sighed and immediately fell asleep in his arms. Folen gripped her tighter, his lips grazing her sweaty forehead. She was sick, ill, and she needed a healer, and soon.
“Trinity and Evangeline were on the run to get on the airplane a year ago. I would come up behind them once the doors closed, and we would fly to the nearest portal so I could take them back to Bergarian. Unfortunately, Evangeline was shot and unable to move. In order to save our daughter, she made Trinity board the plane on her own. I stayed to try and save her, but the bastard got to her before I could. They dragged her lifeless body back, healed her enough to keep her alive, and kept her in the basement. All I could do was wait to save her; the grounds were completely saturated with security. I couldn’t leave her to go back and get help. Elves don’t get involved unless it is with their own people at risk, and Evangeline and I have not bonded.”
Tiny snores came from Evangeline; her grip tightened on Folen’s vest like a lifeline.
“Her estranged husband dragged her out here once he got word that Trinity was in the area, hoping to use my mate to drag Trinity out. I had hoped that the training that Trinity had received would keep her safe; luckily, it had. I saw her run off with the both of you when the werebears attacked her cottage. I was going to intervene, but you both seemed to have it. I had Evangeline here at the treehouse and couldn’t pursue. She’s too sick to move.” Folen stroked his mates’ cheek, shivers ran down her body.
Howling was heard in the distance, not the Red Moon pack but rogue wolves calling each other. “Looks like you are stuck here for the night,” Folen covered the jar of light dust that had lit the tent. “The area has ground up fargen roots to hide our scent; you will be safe with us.”
“I have to get back to Trinity. My parents will be here by morning,” I went to crawl out of the tent until we heard growling at the base of the tree. Using my night vision, there were eight wolves and three bears sniffing. One bear sat at the base while the others trailed off into the darkness.
Trying to mind-link Thaddeus, I was unable to. There was a block in our call that I had never experienced before. Trying again, I felt a pain in the side of my head. Folen looked me up and down, pointing to his own head. I nodded, showing him pain.
Mouthing, “I can’t mind-link,” his mouth went into a grim line. The one bear should not be a problem, but if my mind-link wasn’t working, what else would I have trouble with? It would take a great deal of magic to block a link; maybe there was enough to stop a shift? It has been unheard of, but magic evolves all the time, especially during the war with Vamparia over thirty years ago.
Thaddeus would hold down the area until I returned in the morning; who knows what Trinity would do. Trinity was spontaneous and a little firecracker, able to beat a she-wolf all independently; no doubt she would try and come after me.
Duke howled with pride. We were blessed with such a strong ferocious mate. We couldn’t wait to claim her.
She wasn’t entirely human, using part of her father’s warrior b***d in him. He was obviously built for battle; most elves were not into fighting, which surprised me with Follen’s stature.
The bear huffed, curled up behind the tree. His heartbeat slowed, making him fall asleep. “I need to leave,” I spoke softly. Trinity won’t listen to Thaddeus and stay put; there is a lockdown on the territory, no wolves out, no one comes in. If she knows this, she will surely leave and come find me.
Folen looked to Evangeline, setting her down on the furs. “I stole her from a cage,” he whispered. They had locked her up in a damn cage, like an animal. I was lucky to get to her when I did; you all caused quite a stir winning that attack the other day.” My fists clenched; I didn’t need her story; I needed to protect Trinity. Even though Trinity would be sore with me leaving her mother here, she would be in good hands until morning.
“I will go,” Folen spoke again. “I am swift and lighter on my feet than a wolf. No noises will be heard from me while you wolves prance through the forest like horses in heat.” I scoffed, rubbing my hands on my legs.
“Do not.” Folen smiled, his ears coming out between his braids.
“Protect her with your life, and I will do the same for my daughter.” The solemn smile quivered, looking at his mate. “To be a family. That’s all I want.” I sighed heavily. He was right; he would go unnoticed.
“Fine, just watch out, Trinity has a mean kick and she isn’t afraid to punch someone in the balls.” A burst of gentle laughter flew through the air; Folen was gone before I could even ask when he would be back. Evangeline lay nestled into the corner while I kept watch.
Trinity
My feet landed on the ground softly off the top step. I was quieter barefoot, and my feet felt tough enough to withstand the forest floor. Stacy’s winking was a sign, and she unlocked the door for me. How dare that Thaddeus locks that door? Like I was a child? I guess he knew me better than I thought because I totally would have run out the door without a second hesitation.
Stacy stood standing with the key in hand, waving it my face on the small thread where it hung around someone’s neck. “How the hell did you get that?” I asked, walking out the packhouse.
“Oh, did a little flirting with one of the warriors downstairs. I might have promised him a k**s.”
“You harlot,” I shoved her while she giggled. “You better watch it; if Landon is your mate and he finds out you have been smooching up with the warriors, he might kill them.” Stacy’s face fell, touching her lips.
“You don’t think he would, do you?”
“Heck, if I know, they are wolves. I know my mates would cut out their tongue and make an omega clean the floor with it.” The warrior that stood at the door waved at her; she was too nervous about waving back, just gave a shy smile and handed me the key.
“Careful out there, I’ve asked Spencer to go with you,” Stacy waved over to Spencer, who was already shifted.
“You really want Landon to kill everyone, don’t you?” I shook my head. “Spencer is already asking for a whooping pretending to be your beau. Now you have him breaking the rules to help me find Theon?” Stacy shrugged.
“His idea, he said he couldn’t let you go out alone. You don’t have the senses like they do.” I rolled my eyes, yet again for the millionth time.
“Alright, see you at dawn, Stace.” Stacy walked back to her home in the middle of the square while I glanced over at Spencer.
“I’d ride you, but I think my mates would kill me.” Spencer’s wolf shook his head, hissing; I’m guessing it was a laugh.
“Pervert, I mean like ride you through the forest!” Spencer continued to hiss as I began my sprint through the woods. I wasn’t near as fast as a wolf, but I could hold my own. Spencer stayed by my side the entire run showing me the boundary lines.
Stopping at a stream, he lapped up the water. My lungs were burning after running for over two hours. I had never had this much stamina before this, but I would keep going to find Theon. There was no way I would rest at home while one of my mates was out there.
The territory border was on the other side of the stream; my feet hit the cool water as I began to walk through it. Spencer whined behind me, trying to come across until his head ducked lower. “Are you under some command or something?” His wolf nodded, I continued to look ahead.
“Can I command you to cross?” He shook his head. Hmm, guess since I wasn’t the official Luna yet, I didn’t have any say. “You stay here; I’m just going to look around; I won’t go far.” Just then, a warm breeze flew past me. Spencer growled, pawing into the stream.
“I’ll be fine,” I whispered, finally stepping foot onto the embankment. My bare feet didn’t feel sore; the Earth beneath me was warm, a fire that spread through my body. The leaves that crunched under my feet began not making as much sound. The only sound that could be heard was the wind rocking the leaves to sleep.
My heart picked up, feeling a breeze far too warm for comfort. The hair next to my ear moved slightly too fast for it to be a typical breeze. Crouching quickly, I flipped forward, going into a roll; a hand grabbed my wrist, causing me to fall backward. It was faster than Liz when she tried to jump me using her wolf.
Using my basic defense skills, I rolled my wrist; still unable to see my perpetrator since he was behind me, I pulled my wrist free. Using my body’s weight, I lurched forward, using my legs to go around me, kicking whoever stood still to g***n in pain. Ha, a male.
Toppling to the ground, holding his balls, I pulled out a small knife from my legging’s pocket, putting my knee to his neck. The blade grazed his high cheekbone. My breath clouded the air around us while I huffed in annoyance. “Trinity,” a velvet voice pierced my ears.
The steam of my breath cleared, a ruddy red beard, along with green eyes, struck me. Freckles on his entire body, his chest riddled with scars, my grip loosened, unable to understand what lay before me. He felt oddly familiar, though my eyes had never laid on him before. My chest heaved heavily, feeling the warmth from this man.
The hat he wore was leather, filled with black furs to keep the cold at bay. My instincts had me rip it from his head to find pointed ears. “Gods,” I whispered.
“It’s alright, Trinity,” his hands went up near his head, showing he had no weapon; my knee continued to push him to the ground while I tried to understand. Was he a fairy? An elf? The man chuckled, reaching up with one of his fingers to touch my cheek.
My body didn’t flinch; it felt the warmth of his hand. “Your body knows your kin; elves can feel it when paired with the soil.” The soil around us let off a light glow, not enough to gather any enemy’s attention. My feet dug into the ground seeking more of its warmth.
I could feel this man’s emotions. His happiness, worry, regret while his finger traced my cheeks. “You have your mother’s spirit. Selfless and a fighter.” Gasping, I lifted my knee from his chest, stumbling backward.
“Are you the elven warrior from her stories?” He sat up, covered in dirt. His knees came up while his forearms rested pleasantly.
“I do not know what stories she told you, but there is one truth I want to give: I am your father, and I am here to protect both you and my mate, your mother.”
