(Book 5)- Chapter 32
Trinity’s POV
“Um, nothing,” I quickly snapped back to look at the sneaky intruder. I should have been more careful, my father could be anywhere, and I’m acting like a giddy little kid waiting for the ice cream truck.
Landon grunted, folding his arms over his bare chest.
“Liar,” he scoffed. “Do your mates know you are over here? Pretty sure they don’t.”
“Why do you say that?” I defended. I crossed my own arms over my shoulder, glaring at him with the same intensity he bestowed upon me. The edge of his lips twitched in amusement.
“Because two head alpha’s don’t leave their unmark mate out in the open. It is either a trick to try and kill one of my men and me, or you really did give them the slip. Which is impressive.”
I don’t know if I gave them the slip; I wasn’t exactly hiding from them. I just wanted to come to see what everyone else was doing without two males up my a*s. I’m pretty sure that might happen physically than just the saying I was trying to use. “I just wanted to check out the training grounds, see if I can watch, and see how you guys do it.”
Landon scratched the back of his head. “Is that so? Well, I guess if you want to watch you can, but I don’t think your mates would like you to practice with us. We are much stronger than you, and if we accidentally hurt you, it would be our heads.”
I raised my nose, “they aren’t the boss of me. If I want to train and try some of this sparing, I will. I’ll kick their asses myself.” Landon let out a hardy laugh; it was so loud wolves from the training grounds stopped to see what was going on. “She wants to train!” he yelled over the field. It wasn’t meant to be a joke, but many she-wolves felt it was. They cackled, whispering to each other. Landon cleared his throat.
“I just thought it was funny you wanted to kick your mates’ asses, not that training was such an awful idea.” Landon started to apologize, but I waved him off.
“I get it; it’s fine.” My lips set to a grim line. I stared at the she-wolves laughing and giggling. It was a group of three, definitely fit and toned. Their abs glistened with sweat, their hair nicely planted on the top of their heads. The whispers were meant for me not to hear, but Landon’s grimacing let me know he heard. “What did they say?”
“You don’t want to know,” he whispered, pulling me to the field. I was greeted with many other wolves in the area, both men and women that did not think it was funny. They shook my hands and pulled me to their smaller divided training groups to watch their technique. They were fast, which was a massive factor in the fighting, but even with their swiftness, they lacked some method I had learned from my trainers. ‘Control was better than speed”; was a motto engraved in my head as I practiced all the different art forms.
I’m glad I didn’t complain to Mom about training so much; she knew what she was talking about. I wonder if she knew I would end up in a world like this deep down. If my father was indeed an elf, he sounded to me like a warrior. I didn’t even know what he looked like, but the scars she spoke on his chest were a good enough indicator.
It had been an hour, no signs of my mates appearing from the woods to tear me down with verbal assault. I had become comfortable around my surroundings, primarily when they fought in human form.
“Alright, listen up!” Landon spoke in the middle of the field. “It’s judgment day! Everyone gather ’round.”
This sounded deliciously exciting. “Hey, Luna, you want to watch something awesome? Spencer hung out with Landon the night at the bar along with Beck. Neither of them spoke to me while I was at the bar. Werewolves must have a code to protect by not speaking to humans besides a leader. Spencer opened up the past hour, showing me some of his moves. I found him to have a fun sense of humor, a bit dark, but it was funny. “I’m going to challenge Beck over there. He’s the 2nd best warrior in the pack. If I win, I get his rank.” Beck was also with Lance that night at the bar. I never paid attention to him because he was always scouting the surroundings. Spencer was a younger wolf, maybe my age of around twenty. Then again, everyone ages differently around here, so he could be as far into his 80s. Beck looked ‘well seasoned.”
“Good luck,” I nudged him. Spencer gave me a nod and spoke to Landon, who only patted him on the back with a shake of the head. Spencer might be in over his head here.
“Today, we have Spencer; he’s been a warrior for 8 years now. Still on the young side, but his improvement is just. He has challenged Beck for the third top warrior.” The crowd murmured; the girls that laughed at me earlier started laughing. Someone needed to kick their asses.
Beck and Spencer entered the ring. Beck had a whole sleeve of tattoos, his hair cut in military-style. Brooding, evil eyes stared at the young wolf that dared to challenge him. This was a bad idea on Spencer’s part. Covering my hand with my fingers, I continued to watch.
The circle was twelve feet wide; if you leave the ring twice, you are out and forfeit the game. Beck and Spencer circled each other; Landon watched from the sidelines, circling the both of them. Spencer was first to attack and jumped low, going for the legs; Beck only jumped over him, laughing. Beck turned in mid-air pulling Spencer’s legs out from under him. Spencer was waiting for the moment; twisting his body, his claws raked across Beck’s chest. He howled in anger while Spencer put his arm around Beck’s neck, pulling him to the ground. Spencer threw me a smile until Beck had enough. Jumping with Spencer, still holding his neck in a hold, he fell backward, hitting Spencer’s head on the ground. Spencer was on his back, pinned by Beck breathing down his neck. Beck moved
Spencer’s neck to the side, jaws falling out of his mouth. Beck was savoring the moment, pausing for dramatic effect. Everyone thought it was over; they were handing out money from the bets they place who would win. Spencer had one trick up his sleeve; his head came forward, cracking Beck’s nose into a bloody mess.
The shock threw Beck back until Spencer used his speed to pin him to the ground, pushed his head to the side, and sunk his teeth into his skin. “Game!” Landon yelled. Spencer jumped up; I couldn’t help but cheer for him. Everyone g*****d, moving money back and forth from their losses. “That was amazing! How did you know you would win!?”
Spencer took a towel, rubbing the sweat from his face. “I’ve watched him fight for years; he likes to pause before he bites into his enemy. Watch the light leave their eyes.” Spencer muttered solemnly but quickly recovered. Once I perfected my last move, I knew I could take him.”
Beck threw a nasty glare at Spencer; once Spencer acknowledged the glare, they smiled at each other.
Ugh, men.
“Congratulations, it was a good clean win,” high-fiving him, one of the giggly girls from the snobby group came over. Her pink neon pink sports bra could be seen a mile away.
“So two alpha’s weren’t enough; you are going after warriors now?” Spencer growled, standing in front of me. She flicked her blonde hair.
“Watch your mouth, Liz; if the princes catch wind of what you are implying, it would be your head.” Liz smacked her lips, crossing her arms. “Are we even sure she is their mate? It’s rare for a human to be mated to an Alpha, let alone two.”
“You doubt them? Queen Sadie was wolfless when born, pretty much human. Why wouldn’t they take a human?” Spencer’s body puffed up in anger, his fist clenched, getting closer to Liz. His winning didn’t affect her as she stood in the same spot.
Taking her finger, she circled his chest. A low purr resonated in Spencer.
“All I’m saying, Queen Sadie, was born of two wolves. No doubt she would have a mate. This girl we know nothing about and has already brought chaos to the territory. Her ‘father’ plans to wipe us out because she knows us. Too much trouble for our world.” If looks could kill, I would be 6 feet under.
This girl didn’t know s**t. That part I didn’t care about, but saying I was nothing but a fake mate and trying to get into Spencer’s pants was enough on my integrity.
“I challenge you, Liz.” The words slipped from my mouth before I realized I had spoken. Liz eyed me up and down, laughing along with her posse.
“You, a human, challenge me?” Her hand caressed her chest. “I accept.” The evil twinkle in her eye gave me an uneasy feeling, but there was no going back now.
“Luna, no, this is a bad idea. What if you get hurt?” I internally sighed, I might get my a*s handed to me, but at least I tried. Getting walked all over was not part of my agenda here. Besides, if I lose, I don’t lose much. Just my pride. Liz would feel utter embarrassment losing to a human.
I was willing to take that risk.
“Can’t run away from your problems all the time, am I right?” Giving him a wink, I stripped my shirt off, which left me with just my black leggings and sports bra. My stomach wasn’t flat and toned like hers, but I still had my hourglass shape. A few hoots and hollers came from the stands, but I shrugged it off. Big breasts, I knew I had ’em, and fighting with my mate’s loose-fitting shirt wasn’t going to work. I needed all the fluid movements I could get.
“No,” Landon stomped towards me while I stretched. My legs were a bit tight, so I sat on the ground, butterflying my legs. “No, I won’t allow it. My a*s is on the line if you get hurt.”
“Can I like, command you or something?” I waved my hand around dismissively. “Like seriously, what is the good of this title if I can’t command you?” Landon pinched his nose, counting to 10 under his breath.
“I cannot let you do this, Luna,” he pleaded.
“You aren’t letting me; I’m doing it without your approval.” Standing up, I brushed myself off. Spencer walked with me until we reached the edge of the circle. Landon huffing and puffing behind me.
“She has weak arms,” Spencer whispered. “She’s all about kicking her opponents. If you could subdue her lower region, maybe even break her leg, you would be golden.” I nodded.
“Thank you, Spencer.”
“No problem, just so you know, she is the female head warrior.” My face paled. I did a major, whoops.
My meaty a*s was going down.
The crowd got more extensive, and more wolves came to the circle. “What the hell is going on?” Landon began to sweat, his hair sticking to his forehead. “Liz mind-linked the pack saying you challenged her.”
Ugh, this was taken too much out of context. These wolves are going to think I’m crazy. Spencer pushed me forward; looking back at him, his face was nothing but excitement. Did he think I could do this? Right now, I would not place any bets on me because my face was going to be crushed. My mates would have to love me because I’m their mate, not because of my looks anymore.
Liz continued to jump up and down, hyping herself up while I stared. Her legs did look powerful, muscular, and lean, while her upper body strength was a bit on the lanky side.
While my legs were thick, they had some muscle. However, my power was in my arms. It may not look like muscle under that fluff, but there was. Calming my mind, I waited until the crowd quieted down. “Luna Trinity has challenged Liz, head warrior of the B***d Moon pack.” The group ‘oohed’ while I rolled my eyes.
“Because she thinks I’m a slut and doesn’t believe Theon and Thaddeus are mine!” Alright, that was a low blow, but I’m calling it like it is. Liz gasped, holding her hands up in mock surrender.
“I said no such thing! For a Luna, I would think that being honest would be a good virtue to have.”
This mother fg bh. Wait, would her mom still be a b*h since she is part dog?
Screw it.
“Actually, I was a witness,” Spencer walked up to me. A grateful smile played on my face. “You insulted her; that was why she challenged you. A true luna would defend her mates and honor.”
“Watch your mouth, Spencer. You know what I could do to you,” she seethed. Spencer jutted out his chin in defiance. “Do it then.” A pang of hurt fell on her face; quickly recovering, she spoke loud and clear so everyone in the back could hear.
“I Elizabeth Fog of the Red Moon pack, reject you, Spencer Targeting of the Red Moon pack as my mate.”
The wolves standing around us stood in silence. Liz clutched her chest with a smile. Spencer looked her up and down; his body shook with sorrow. “I accept your rejection,” Spencer growled. Both of them grabbed their chests again; as quickly as the pain came, it vanished. Liz stood on two feet, looking at Landon. “That’s that then.” Her stance stood tall, her shoulders back and her arms crossed.
“Are we going to do this or not?” Landon’s mouth was still agape. My heart was hurting for Spencer. How were they, mates? Why did Liz not want to accept Spencer? My own body shook while Landon took back control over the situation.
“Right, ladies, get into position.” How was I supposed to fight after that? Spencer vouched for me and gave up his mate to help me. My eyes didn’t want to leave Spencer. He gave up having a mate just to protect my image. How could I ever repay him? There was no way to repay him.
“Go get her, Luna,” Spencer patted my back, running out of the circle.
Liz was crouched in position, and my mind was elsewhere, the whistle blew, and she lunged for me. Pinning me to my back in a fraction of a second, she moved my head to my side to bite me. My legs curled under me, pushing my feet into her stomach. Flipping her over, she fell on her back and recovered. “Don’t think I will go easy on you because you are supposedly mated to the Princes,” she spat, rubbing her feet in the dirt. “Don’t think that I won’t bite you because you are human.”
“Don’t think I won’t bite you either, you ungrateful dog,” I growled out to my own tune.
Shaking my head, I charged after her, being sure to use my fists to her face. Using my open palm, I pushed up on her nose. It broke with a hearty crack. Power surged inside me, seeing the b***d pour. Electricity buzzed throughout my body. Being in nature, in the dirt, was revitalizing. Fighting in a gym on floor mats didn’t compare to this.
My hands pulled her arm, throwing her over my shoulder. Several wolves cheered. “Damn, are humans supposed to be that strong?” Landon yelled over the crowd.
One of Liz’s hands grabbed my ankle, I dug my nails into her wrist, but it wasn’t enough. I was pushed into the dirt once more, coughing b***d out of my mouth. “Give up yet, human?”
“Never,” I spat the b***d on her pink bra.
Liz drug me around the circle, just on edge to show the b***d on my face. Once I reached Spencer watching, I burned with anger. This wasn’t going to pull me down. My hands gripped the dirt, the electricity buried into my fingertips. Twisting my h**s, I yanked my leg out of the hold. I moved my arms with such fierceness, my body took over. No longer thinking, I flowed outside of my body, my fists hit her face, my forearm cracked her upper arm with a mighty heave. The legs are what I needed to get rid of to put her at my mercy.
Liz howled in pain; her fur sprouted on her body while her bones cracked. Cheater!
Stepping away, Landon came into the center of the ring to stop the fight. I wasn’t ready for it to be over, so I pushed him out with a mighty shove. Many wolves gasped. Lunging towards her, I put her in a headlock just after her shift. She was a massive wolf, more significant than I thought a female would be, but I continued my assault. Clamping her head with my biceps, I pushed my legs into the ground forcing her head into the dirt. The electricity and heat were sucked from the ground and into my arm. Boosting my grip on Liz’s neck. My arms skid in the soil, scraping my arms, the adrenaline ran through me, the pain was nothing.
I had her where I wanted her, her head on the ground and neck exposed. Did I need to bite her with my own teeth? The crowd was now roaring some with anger, cheers, and applause. Spencer looked on from the sidelines. A sad smile graced his lips. No longer thinking, I stuck my human teeth into Liz’s furry neck. The fur and b***d stained my mouth when she gave me a yelp.
“Challenge over. Luna Trinity is the winner!” Landon took a cloth, rubbing his sweaty forehead. “Thank the gods,” he whispered. The wolves cheered, pulling me up having me sit on their shoulders. Young pups waved their sticks around, b***d still dripping from my mouth. It was nasty, all of it was straight-up gross, but I won.
A few bruises here or there, my head and back were really scratched up from being drug around the ring, and the nasty dirt burn on my arm. I started this fight to piss off a she-wolf that couldn’t keep her mouth shut. That was shut down when Spencer accepted a rejection from his mate. I won for Spencer, a friend who stood up for me. Spencer was the one that lifted me up on one shoulder while Landon had the other. Spencer looked up, and a smile graced his face, but I felt so incredibly guilty. If I didn’t fight, he would have a mate. Then again, did he want her? Don’t wolves try and claim other wolves right away? I wasn’t sure how that worked.
Spencer’s hand squeezed mine in reassurance. Could he feel the turmoil in my heart right now? Tumulous roars were heard at the top of the hill overlooking the training area. All the wolves bent down into a kneeling position, almost making me fall flat on my face.
Looking down at us were my two very scary mates. The joyous occasion of my first werewolf fight had ended, and the angry princes glared at all of us below. Thaddeus was breathing hard, his chest rising and falling with the beat of his heart. Theon’s forearms flexed, showing his meaty muscles.
They may be mad, but damn they were hot.
And now I’m wet.
