(Book 5)- Chapter 30
Trinity’s POV
The following day, I ate my breakfast in silence. As usual, Theon and Thaddeus flanked me at the buffet line. They had plenty of offers from the omegas asking if they could fill their plates, make them something more suitable to their liking, but they were humble. They reacted with kindness and even shook their hands which was a sign of mutual respect. For the omegas, they felt utterly honored.
I didn’t like how the omegas were cooking and refilling glasses, I felt like everyone used them as slaves, but Thaddeus only said it wasn’t like that. They had the choice of what they wanted to do. They could be trained as warriors, which many of them did train, or they could help serve the pack in other ways. Everyone pitched in and the strongest fought while the others kept the pack running.
“So there isn’t any bullying or pushing others around because they aren’t as strong as the others?” I stuff another bite of scrambled eggs into my mouth. It was mouth-watering delicious; they must put some sort of secret spice in it because they had a bit of a kick.
“There is no-tolerance policy,” Theon wiped the crumbs from his face. “In fact, there was a war about it many, many years ago.” This sparked my interest. I scoot towards Theon, batting my eyelashes.
“I like stories,” I said. Heck, I had a real good story to tell them about my dream last night, but I needed to hear this one. Theon chuckled, putting his arm around me. Thaddeus shoved another sausage in his mouth. He was on his fourth helping.
“Not much to tell unless you like b***d and gore. Our grandparents, King Emilio and Queen Estar, came into power over a thousand years ago and had a massive war over it. That every wolf is treated equally and with respect,” he spoke nonchalantly. I choked, sipping my orange juice.
“A-a thousand years ago!? How old are your parents? How old are you guys!?” Thaddus growled in his chest; at least, I think it was a growl that put a smile on his face. “Werewolves continue to live a long time; we aren’t immortal per-say, we can be killed. We stop aging at 30 and continue living on until our hearts stop beating.”
Holy shitzu.
But I was human. I would continue to age, and they wouldn’t. I’ll be an old grandma, and they would look as handsome as ever. I’m not going to live very long compared to their lives. I pushed my food around my plate, gripping the fork a bit too tightly. Would they get a new mate then? The thought alone grabbed me in the heart. I wouldn’t be their one and only; how unfair that would be to them. Theon put his arm around me, then pulled me into his lap. “Stop thinking, Trinity, talk to me.” He pushed away my hair, kissed my cheek.
“Humans don’t live that long,” I cleared my throat. “You don’t have me forever.” Theon’s worried face then smiled.
“Oh Trinity,” he hugged me tightly, and I hugged him back. “You are so adorable. Are you that upset?” A heavy breath left me that didn’t even deserve a response. How could he ask me that? It made me angry that he would think I wouldn’t be!
“What do you think?” I snapped.
“You will be with us forever too, my sweet mate.” My head lifted from his shoulder.
“How?” Theon moved my long hair from my shoulder, tickling it with the pad of his finger. “Because this mark we both lay on you will keep you with us. It ties our souls together. We cannot live without the other. If I die, you and Thaddeus will follow. Our souls will be intertwined with one another, and with our bite, you will live with us, never aging. There is a choice you can make if you want that we forgot to mention.” Thaddeus shoved another large bite of eggs in his mouth. Theon scowled at him.
“Um, yes,” Thaddeus put his fork down, swallowing his giant wad of food in his mouth. “We can mark you, and then later, if you wanted, you can become a wolf, like us. We could inject you with our venom right where our mark lays. Since you are human, you will inherit all of the wolf DNA. You can shift, run, become strong, just like us.” Theon beamed with pride; I swore I saw his chest get a bit bigger while I petted his chest.
Being a werewolf would be awesome! I could mind-link with them; I could talk to them and not be left out of any conversations. However, they said I would be a full-blooded werewolf compared to what?
“What happens if I wasn’t a full werewolf?” Theon swallowed a bit of pancake.
“There are interspecies matings, like faes to wolves or sirens to dragons, it ca; when. They share their talents or DNA with each other. For instance, Queen Willa of the faes was part human and siren; when she mated with King’s full-blooded Fae, she inherited part of his Fae genes. She can fly but also breathe underwater. Orion can breath underwater as well.”
Woah.
“Yeah, it’s really cool, humans though, they are a blank slate. You would inherit all of our genes and basically be a full-blooded wolf,” Thaddeus added.
“What about the children? Doesn’t that throw in a massive genetic mess?” Little mixed babies are adorable, don’t get me wrong, but after a while, there would be no fae, wolves, or the like left. It would be a giant melting pot.
“Ahhh,” Theon raised his finger in the air. “Here is the beauty of being mates. Once mated, bonded, and a woman finally falls pregnant, the baby decides in the womb what it will be so the genes don’t mix. It picks the father or mother’s original genes. Willa and Orion have a mix of fae and siren children.”
“That’s amazing and so thought out. The goddess Selene decided this?”
“Yup,” Theon popped his mouth. Taking a large gulp of orange juice, I watched his Adam apple bobbed. A bit of liquid left the corner of his mouth in slow motion; it dripped to the hollow at the base of his neck. It only made me want to straddle him and lick it off. Shaking my head, I regained my focus. I had to tell them a long-lost memory/dream last night.
“Can you imagine?” Thaddeus butted in. “Orion probably has some giant fish tank in his palace for his daughter Pandora and son Athos. I heard they were born with a tale and everything. The Fae physician freaked out because he didn’t know what to do with the first child, so he threw her in the washing bowl.” Theon laughed out loud.
“You shouldn’t say such things; Orion would have your head,” Theon chided. “At least he got one Fae, son, out of the deal. Thicket is a beast to spar with, and he is still fairly young.”
I stared in wonder. Talking about faes giving birth to sirens, well, I guess half siren half-fae giving birth to full-blooded species was a bit weird. It defied all science I had learned; everything was different now. Anything that I knew before werewolves were all but a cover-up.
“So there are no mixtures of races then? Races stay pure?” I asked.
Thaddeus shook his head and pointed his fork at me. “There is one, maybe two.” Thaddeus swallowed. “Queen Diana of Vamparia was half-witch and half-vampire. It happened when Diana’s mother fell pregnant without a bonding, or so they say. It is almost impossible to become pregnant by another that is not your mate. There have been two recorded births like that, and no one knows why they happened.”
“Diana and her mate, Prince Nathan, had one son who is now the ruler. They stepped down because no one liked Nathan’s past or the fact Diana was a hybrid. Nathan had tried to pursue our mother and force a bond, but luckily, she met Dad before he could take her.”
Thaddeus growled and bent the fork in front of him. “They now live in solitude because Diana had forgiven Nathan, even though others had not. She wanted to live in peace and didn’t want to throne anyhow. Their son, King Aleus, now rules since he has become of age. The kingdom is thriving with the help of his Advisor Bastian and his mate Olivia. They ruled as interim when Diana and Nathan stepped down and gladly handed it over to the mysterious Aleus.”
“Why is he a mystery?” This story s**t was getting good. I held on to Theon’s hand tightly, giving him my full attention.
“Because he never comes out of the castle. Bastian and Oliva run things by his orders. He stays locked up in his bed-chamber or office. Some say it is because he is a hybrid and won’t give up the throne. Some say because he is ugly, no one really knows. Mom has tried to see him several times, she has calming abilities to help the tortured souls, but he won’t even see her.”
“That’s so sad,” I whined. “Poor thing is probably lonely.”
“I’m lonely,” Thaddeus grunted, pushing his fork away. I shifted out of Theon’s lap and sat on Thaddeus’.
“Is that better, big bad wolf?” I scratched under his chin. He scoffed while his nose buried into my neck. “You need to learn to share, Thaddeus. You aren’t being fair to your brother.”
“I know,” he mumbled into my hair. “Is hard,” he playfully bit me. Pushing him away gently, I sat up straight.
“What happens if someone is half human and half…” my words were cut off with Linhi putting hands on my shoulder.
“My baby is sleeping. Would you like to make that call?” Theon and Thaddeus jumped up; I was cradled in Thaddeus’ arms while they followed Linhi. I guess I’ll tell them later?
The clouds were overcast today as we were led out. The breeze was a bit cooler, and my arms shivered in response. Stacy was sitting on the porch with her cousin, looking defeated. My heart ached for her. She lost her boyfriend, and on top of it, he was going to be killed for betraying a pack. I wiggled in Thaddeus’; her, only for him to hold me tighter. “Stacy,” I whispered, pointing to her. Thaddeus shook his head.
“She is under house arrest.” I gasped.
“But why!?” Thaddeus shrugged his shoulders.
“Think about it; her boyfriend was plotting against the pack. She could have information on what Elijah was doing.” Thaddeus’ enormous strides put Stacy smaller and smaller in my line of vision. It wasn’t fair; she had no clue. I know she didn’t.
“When will she be out of house arrest?” I whispered. I wanted to see her, do the whole girlfriend thing and eat ice cream and cookies until we threw up. Stacy had been nothing but an angel to me. She invited me into a town of people that rarely talks to strangers. Stacy welcomed me into her home; she helped me find my own; hee and told me to get a dog. Granted, I got wolves and mates in that deal, but she led me to them.
“Whenever Alpha Big Paw can talk to her. Wolves can tell when you are lying; he will listen to her heart and see if she genuinely wasn’t a part of the plan. He’s just busy calling sorceresses to put a ward on the territory.” I hummed in agreement, still not liking the situation. Sneaking away was not going to be an option. My mates were so far up my butt I’m surprised they couldn’t see my tonsils.
We made it to the yurt; it was spotless of any remnants of birthing a baby. A large table sat in the middle, and the cliché crystal ball stood on a platform. I giggled, looking at it. I am waiting for a madam with jingling bells and wailing that she will give me my good fortune if I give her a good bit of coin.
Linhi didn’t do that; she sat with her regular clothes on; the light in the yurt was but a few candles. Just enough light to light the table while I sat between my mates. The incense grew more potent, smells of sage and eucalyptus filled the area. Her fingers danced on the ball as she hummed to herself. The boys were antsy in their seats, Theon sat on his hands, and Thaddeus was biting a thumbnail.
Were they that nervous to talk to their parents? “Are you guys alright?” I whispered, trying not to disturb Linhi. They both nodded and stared at the glass orb.
Linhi’s fingers retreated from the ball and laid her hands flat on the table. Like you would see on a television, pictures came into view. It was a bedroom, dark, and the sheets were moving in the bed. A loud, “f*****g perfect,” and growl left someone’s lips.
“Oh gods,” Thaddeus slapped their face. “When are they not doing it?” Theon blushed furiously and started yelling.
“Mom, Dad, we are here at the mirror!”
“I swear,” Thaddeus cursed under his breath. “Can they move the mirror so we don’t see s**t!?” I snorted; his parents were doing it. I wanted to laugh louder, but I bit my cheek. I was drawing b***d, trying not to smile, and now I was sitting on my hands, trying not to move.
“Seth, stop!” there was a loud smack and a m**n. “Not done,” the guttural voice spoke. Theon covered my ears for a minute until finally, a woman came on the screen. She was a tiny thing, smaller than me. A sheet was wrapped around her breasts while a significant, looming figure sat with his bulging arms over his chest. Tattoos were everywhere. There wasn’t a spot on him that wasn’t covered besides his face and his right shoulder.
“It’s my baby! Oh, and it’s my big strong boy!” The woman shrilled over the chrystal.
“Hi, Mom,” they both replied.
