(Book 3)- Chapter 69
Willa’s POV
I flew out of the palace like my rear was on fire. I got halfway up to the top of the trees until I realized that I had no weapon with me. I was donned in just the dress that Orion had left me in. A baby blue lace dress with an intricate weaving of babies breath at the hems. My boobs were basically falling out; no doubt Orion wanted a glimpse at them when he got home. Going into battle looking like a child would be hilarious, and no one was going to take me seriously. On top of that, I have no fighting experience and no weapon to yield, as explained by my father.
I needed a plan and a good one.
I flew up to the largest tree next to the palace to think. I couldn’t fly in guns blazing because, in fact, there were no guns. Scratching my chin, trying to think my way into this predicament by not getting blown up to bits, I heard some arguing.
Perking my head up and flying to the very top, I poked my head from the branches and saw three warlocks standing out by Horus’s cave.
Poo on a stick; they are screwed. Don’t wake a sleeping dragon.
The three men continued to argue. “Well, how in the hell was I supposed to know the spell wouldn’t work? Prinna gave it to me,” he yelled at the other two.
“Just go in there and jab the syringe in between his scales, pull what we need, and let’s get out. We can’t bring the whole dragon,” said the shorter of the three.
“Are you nuts? That thing will wake up and blow me to bits. I should have stayed back and got in on the fighting. This recon s**t ain’t my forte.” The last warlock scoffed and grabbed the small dagger.
“Since you idiots couldn’t do a levitation spell right, I’ll go in and extract the b***d, but I’m taking the credit. I’ve got a numbing spell, and he won’t feel a damn thing.”
That got my attention. If he gets Horus’s b***d, we are all screwed. We would have a bunch of crazy spelling casting mess in Bergarian, and who knows where else. I landed softly on the ground and tip-toed to the cave. My back was completely flat to the wall while the other two stood guard, kicking dirt and telling each other what idiots they were.
Since they said they were, in fact, idiots, I grabbed a rock and chucked it to the other side of the clearing. Their heads both perked up, and they both looked at each other and then behind them, completely opposite of where the rock landed.
Son of Bitchachos.
“Look what we have here,” said the taller one. Wow, that was a completely terrible line. Might as well say, ‘did you fall from heaven because you look like an angel.’
“Hey gorgeous, did you fall from heaven because-“I put my hand up to stop his excessive talking.
Goddess, they are idiots.
I needed to change my tactic and get to Horus and fast.
“No, actually, I’m a snowflake,” I swayed my h**s as I approached them, making sure I flutter my wings for good measure. “Because I think I’m falling for you.” I make sure not to look either in the eye otherwise I would burst out laughing. Both straightened up and adjusted their robes as I circled around to get a good glimpse inside the cave. The other warlocks lantern was heading down the long cave. He hadn’t reach Horus yet.
Both warlocks stepped forward while nudging each other, annoyed that they each approached. “I’m sorry, my little snowflake; which one were you speaking to?” They both glared at each other while I played with my necklace.
“I was hoping both,” I cringed internally. The thought of anyone other than my mate made me physically sick. They kept walking towards me, whispering to each other when I realized this was as far as I could go to get them away from the cave. I started humming, thinking of having them fall asleep just beside the cave without making any noise.
“What a pretty melody,” one yawned as they continued closer. It wasn’t strong enough, I would have actually sing something, but my mind was shot. No lyrics were coming to me, so I did the next best thing that I have dubbed the name, ‘the Ariel.” My mind went to the scene where she sang to the evil witch could suck in her voice in the tiny shell necklace. Concentrating on the melody and having them lulled the sleep, it started working. They both sat beside the cave, leaning on each other. Both of them curled up like babies, and once their breaths evened out, I sprinted to the mouth of the cave.
The light was still swaying back and forth; dang, this was a deep cave. Horus would be sleeping, so I started screaming for him to wake up. “Horus! You are in danger! Wake up!!” I yelled as I sprinted on the jagged rocks.
There was a growl and a high-pitched scream from the other warlock as I heard a loud snap. The ground below me started to rumble as I felt the heavy breaths of Horus ascending the cave. Running back out into the light, Horus stood tall in all his glory. His scales shined as a drip of b***d left his lips.
“D-did you eat him?” I cried. Not really wanting to know the answer, Horus gave a stiff nod and took his snake-like tongue to clean up the mess. Gagging a bit, I shook my head and came back to the real reason what we needed to do. Get Orion.
“Horus, Orion is in trouble. The B***d Coven is hidden, and I don’t know where they are, but he needs help.” Horus huffed and crouched down so I could mount; gripping ahold of his horns, I stiffened and remembered that the witches would want his b***d.
“You can’t get hurt, Horus. The witches want your b***d to make their magic stronger,…” before I could finish, Horus reared back his head and gave a laugh. A dang laugh, this dragon was laughing at me. He shook his head and jumped in mid-air as we flew through the sky.
I had no clue where I was going, but Horus sure did. With three large flaps with his wings, he was in the air, high above the trees; the trees around the palace became small as the trees up ahead were taller than the palace. As we were flying, I could imagine the trunks of the tree being vast. What fun it would be to run through that forest!
Howling came from up ahead as I saw wolves falling out of a brick wall; there must be a spell barricading them in. Horus huffed at me as he knew what I thought as he dove closer to the ground. His feet landed with a thump while leaving large claw indentions in the dirt.
“Your Highness!” I sat up straight as one of Orion’s warriors appeared from the fence. “You shouldn’t be here, His Highness-“I put my hand up like Orion does when he wants people to shut up.
“Your King isn’t here, is he? I am, so where are they? What’s going on?” I clipped.
“T-they are inside. There is a spell blocking healing abilities, and everyone will be slaughtered!” I nodded my head as Horus looked behind himself, giving me a wink. He wanted in, and he wanted to steal the show.
“Get back in there and get everyone out. We are coming in, and Horus will torch the place.” The warrior fell on the ground before landing himself back into the wall. Backing up, Horus took a running start and dove through the barrier. Horus’s roar was so loud it shook the walls of the fake castle they made. The bricks crumbled as everyone stood at the massive dragon before them.
Looking at the half-wolf, half-human beast in front of me, I instantly knew it was Alpha Seth. They say he was terrifying, and no doubt my once brave face held worry. Seth growled for an answer while everyone started running away from Horus. “We’re gonna torch it, get everyone out.” I didn’t yell, but I didn’t have to because of Seth’s incredible hearing.
The warrior I had sent in had gathered up the rest of Orion’s warriors as Horus began shaking the ground with the stomps of his caws. His wings flapped, hitting several warlocks to the ground and guarding the door. The vibrations from Horus’s throat let me know something was coming from it, and it was going to be big. Seth looked one more time my way before I threw a thumbs up and Horus let out his grunty breath.
Flames seared the entire walls, Warlocks were screaming, several still on fire as they tried to leave through the exit. Horus chomped on several warlocks, b***d smearing the cobblestone pathway. No one was getting out alive in this secret hideaway. The fire had already consumed the drapes, tables, and furniture was laid out recklessly. Bodies were charred and left lifeless on the floor. It reminded me of the movie Kill Bill when she takes on almost the whole restaurant of fighters. Except I wasn’t bloody, and I had a dang dragon instead of a sword.
My scene was better.
Horus puffed out his chest, happy with the result until I heard footsteps coming from behind us. A large crowd entered, and Horus didn’t seem worried. My father and my brothers, minus Luke, came marching in with their tridents and swords. My father took one look at me and let out a sigh of relief.
“Look, Dad! I’m riding a dragon!” My father rolled his eyes as he stuck his trident in the ground and took off his armored gloves.
“Hey, at least she isn’t riding Orion?” One of my brothers jeered while my father smacked up upside the head.
“Owie.”
Horus walked forward, sniffing and putting his head near a basement door or what was left of a door. A large, charred opening was left. I dismounted and felt my heart pull to the bottom of the basement. It was dark, dreary, and thankfully dry since Horus’s flames went halfway down. Still, I wasn’t going down there. I’ve watched too many horror movies, and that is where you end up dead.
“Hey!” I yelled down to the basement. “Come out, you dumb b***h, and give me my mate!” I smiled triumphantly at my fantastic Joan Of Arc words while my father shook his head.
“Princesses, don’t cuss,” he grumbled as he pulled me away from the entryway.
“Well, good, because I’m not a princess, I’m a damn queen!”
“Right on!” My brother said as he gave me a high five.
One set of footsteps came up the stairs; the light cast a shadow so no one could see who it was. I did, though; my heart palpitated as Orion emerged from the depths of the basement. Dried b***d was on his tunic, and his skin was no longer white but a light tan with his black wings. His black obsidian eyes glared into the sun until he looked at me.
Uh, I hope he wasn’t mad that I saved his butt. His eyes lightened instantly, and his dark wings and skin vanished; he ran up to me and engulfed me in the enormous hug. “My Darling, what did I tell you!” He cried as he buried his face in my neck.
“To behave?” I whispered.
“And you weren’t,” he growled.
“That was one rule I was willing to break for punishment,” I put both of my hands on his face and gave him a searing k**s. A few of my brothers g*****d as Orion snaked his arms around my waist. Horus gave a little bite to my tush as I squealed.
“Right, right,” I pulled away, but Orion didn’t let go of my hand. “I think Horus wants to eat the witch down there,” I pointed to the entrance. My brothers nodded as Orion told them how to bring her up.
She was frozen, unable to move, but she could talk. Boy, could she talk. There were phrases and words I had never heard of before. My father came behind me to cover my ears as they brought Prinna in front of Horus. Horus’s eyes gleamed with excitement as Prinna tried to back away.
“He gets stronger the more magical entities he eats,” Orion explained. “You helping him consume a coven witch has only put him in further debt with us, even though I tell him he can leave.” Horus eyed me and gave his little dragon bow he does while I clung to Orion. “I thought the witches would get to him, that’s why I left him out of the fight, but I guess you knew better, Daring.”
“Yup,” I popped the p, “I did.” No, I didn’t. I had no clue what I was doing. Orion pitched my butt as I rubbed the pain away.
Orion grabbed me and pulled me to his chest while I heard the screams quiet and the cracking of bones invade my ears. The sound alone was going to give me nightmares, let alone all the burned bodies.
