Chapter 26 – Levi

Chapter 26 – Levi

I march into Head Warrior Sophia Knight’s office with Gus and my gam ma, Jordan, flanking me. I glare at Oakley’s father

and brothers and to my surprise, they don’t bow or lower their eyes. Instead, they glare right back. I knew that they were pis sed at me and had very little trouble showing it at our pack, but to show this type of disrespect in front of others is a very different thing. It’s important that, even with things as chaotic as they are in our pack, we show a united front when other wolves are

around.

My glare turns dangerous and my wolf raises its hackles, pis sed at being challenged. A growl rumbles from my chest and I square off in front of these three wolves that have gone completely rogue with looking for Oakley and not bringing me into the search at all. My aura flares out in the room, directed at the three males in front of me.

They try to fight it and they give a valiant effort, likely lasting longer than they normally would because of the anger that is rolling off of them. But in the end, they all bare their n*ecks to me, lowering their eyes in submission to me.

My wolf gives a smug huff, his grow! still present in my voice, “I’ll deal with you three later. The promise in my voice is a real threat of pain, one they would do well to heed. But I see Jack’s eyes flash up to mine, staring directly into my eyes. He will definitely welcome any challenge that I have for him. He was always the more physical of the twins and one that could give any warrior a run for his money in the training ring. If he wants to fight, I’ll happily give him one and then beat his a ss for trying to keep me away from my mate.

But for now, I’ve got to get her in my presence. I growl once more at Jack, pushing my aura into him so hard that he gasps and nearly falls out of his chair as he bends his knee to me. Then I turn to Sophia Knight..

I’ve had dealings with her many times throughout the years. She is the liaison between the Council of Alphas and the Elite 10, ensuring that no one knows the identities of the members outside of their pack, which she becomes a part of. She is one tough wolf, on and off the battlefield, Sophia takes her role of guardian seriously and would do nothing to compromise the Integrity of the council or the Elite 10. Which means me getting to Oakley, if she truly is a part of the Elite 10 training, is going to be next to impossible.

But I have to try.

“Head Warrior Knight,” I say by way of greeting.

“Alpha Silver” she replies, nodding towards me. “And you’ve brought your beta and gam ma as well as one of your wolf’s family. To what do I owe the pleasure?”

“You have my mate here. I want to see her I say, filling my voice with my alpha authority, though not with my aura. That that would be a really bad choice to use against a wolf from another pack. That’s a good way to start a war.

“That’s impossible, Alpha. The Goddess calls these wolves here after they have been pushed away by all who are supposed to love them. Their pack, their family, and their mate. No one wants them. It’s the reason they are willing to give up their name, their entire identity to become one of the Elite 10. Sophia’s voice is matter-of-fact, emotionless. But her words are like a punch

to the gut.

The room goes completely quiet, all of my pack members stunned into silence.

“What do you mean?” Bradley whispers. But as he speaks, his voice gets louder. “What do you mean that no one wanted her? Of course we wanted her. She’s my daughter. Their sister! She’s the best thing that ever happened to any of us!” By the end, Bradley is standing, bent over the table he was sitting next to, and he screams and cries his pain..

fophi just c ocks her brow at him, her demeanor calm and collected. “Mr. Moon, I appreciate that you have some strong

feelings right now, but I also am telling you what the Goddess does to push the wolves that she wants here to come here. I have no idea if your daughter is here…

“We know she’s here. The surveillance footage from outside of the castle proves that she came in and that she hasn’t left. I want to see my sister, Jack says.

“If your sister is here and you’ve put her through enough that she felt that this would be the best option for her, even after I listed exactly what she would be giving up if she did, then you don’t deserve to see her,” Sophia says, her voice a lot fiercer than I anticipated

I put my hand up to Jack, because I can see he’s about to respond. Nothing that he says is going to help and I need to try to plead to her devotion to the Goddess. It’s the only way that I can think of that might actually sway her.

“Sophia, I understand that you have to keep the identity of the wolves in the training anonymous because of your sacred job as their guardian. I truly do understand. But you have to also understand that Oakley is my mate. My luna. That is the one relationship that is sacred above all else in the eyes of the Goddess. I need to see my mate,” I say with all the sincerity that I

have

Sophia laughs. She actually laughs in my face as I bare my soul to her. My wolf, who is already freaking out because we can literally feel her nearby, surges up and growls at her.

Instead of looking cowed, she seems even more amused by my display. “I’m so sorry, Alpha Silver. I don’t mean to upset you, but I find it quite amusing that you would try to use the matebond as a reason that you should see this Oakley, is it? I mean, if she left you, her family, and the possibility of becoming a luna, you must have done something horrible. I start to talk, but she continues as if I haven’t opened my mouth.

“You know, I’ve heard some horror stories over the years. For her descendants that are called to the Elite 10, the Goddess takes what is most important in a pack and uses that to send her descendent to her. If it’s rank, the wolf is made an omega. If

it’s a matebond, the wolf either doesn’t find their mate, or something happens to take their mate away. If it’s strength, then the

wolf is born powerless or without a wolf. You have no idea how easy it is for a pack to turn against one of their own.

*But the funny thing, the thing that I find most fascinating about how the Goddess works, is that the only way that this

works, the only way that a wolf would feel unloved by her family and her mate is if somewhere, deep down inside, they felt that

way in the first place. All the Goddess does is amplify those feelings to push a wolf to their potential in the Elite 10. So, if your mate is here, Alpha, then you are the cause of it. And that reason, aside from my sacred charge as the guardian, makes me

unwilling to help you.”

“You have no idea what you’re talking about! She is my mate. I want her by my side! Our pack needs her and she deserves

to be our luna. My face turns red as I try to keep my wolf back.

“Oh, I’m positive she would be. Any descendent of the Goddess is destined for amazing things. If this Oakley were still to be your mate, she would make you the most prosperous pack in history. She would change history as your luna, sending a wave throughout all of werewolf kind to make the world so much better. Because that’s who she was made to be, Sophia says.

“Look, Head Warrior Knight, you’re not wrong. We really f ucked up with Oakley. All that we want to do is fall to her feet and

beg for her forgiveness. We know that she’s here. We just need you to allow us to see her. Please. She needs to know that her family still loves her and we have to ensure that she knows that, no matter what she chooses. We need to apologize,” James

says.

But pleading to her better nature isn’t going to work. I don’t know that she has one. Sophia just shakes her head.

“I’ll go to the council, Sophia. And you won’t like what they do when they discipline you,” I say, glaring at her.

“Please do, Alpha Silver. See, these are sacred laws that I am upholding and the temper tantrum of a few males isn’t going

to change that. And with that, I see the challenge in Sophia’s eyes.
