Chapter 25 – Oakley
What the hell is Harry doing over with the dragon? I ask, staring over at the boy next door looking kid who is very obviously
flirting with Lisa
Everyone at my table turns to look at Harry brushing a piece of hair off of her shoulder and Lisa practically sharpening her claws to dig them into him and take her back to her lair to devour him.
“It’s like watching a train wreck” Mary says. “Like, I want to save him, but the carnage is so fascinating”
“Right? Like, does Lisa bite his head off like a praying mantis? Or squeeze the life out of him like an anaconda? Cause either way, that boy isn’t making it out alive,” Cassie says
I made the mistake of taking a sip of my orange juice right before they started talking and I’m having to spit it out into my napkin so I don’t spew it over the table. Je rry’s thumping me on the back, laughing his as s off, though I have no idea whether it’s at me or the girls
“What are you laughing at, J erry? I’m genuinely worried about Harry’s safety!” Mary says, not able to take her eyes off of the scene happening in front of us
“Well, the male looks like he’s willing to take whatever Lisa is willing to dish out, so I say that you just let it play out,” Jer ry says through his laughter
Thankfully, the whistle blows soon after and we have to head out to our groups. And thank the Goddess, because I don’t know how in the hell I would have made it through any more of breakfast with the show we were watching
“Listen up.
trainees! We are working on archery today! I want everyone in groups of fiv
in groups of five. Count off! Trainer Leo calls.
I end up in a group with Cassie, Harry, one of Jer ry’s roommates, and my best friend, Lisa. I make sure to stick with Cassie on one end, away from Lisa. I’m not afraid of her. I just don’t feel like battling just to breathe.
For whatever reason, Lisa has it out for me and the air around her always feels thick. I’m not sure what it is she has against me, but I just know it’s strong. I can’t decide if I want to figure out what the source of her animosity towards me is or not. Maybe Fil wait to see how far along we both make it. If we’re both here the second week, which my dream with my mother assures me I will be, then maybe it will be worth it. Until then, I can’t let her mess up my focus.
Cassie and I focus on each other, with Jer ry’s roommate, Rafa, joining in part way through our practice. It helps. To have someone there watching your form, to give you suggestions, to see yourself reflected in their performance, It sharpened our skills Made us more accurate. Stronger.
Harry and Lisa stayed with each other, flirting and occasionally shooting, though their arrows weren’t as plentiful as ours, nor were they as accurate. They were definitely doing more flirting than actual practice. Not really the best use of their time, but
who am I to second guess them?
I step up to my mark and prepare to shoot my next 10 practice arrows. Nocking the arrow, I pull back the string and take a
deep breath.
see
Cassie whispered voice filters through the air, “Let it all go. Focus on the yellow. That’s all you see. That’s all you need to
er voice flow over and through me, and then I let it go. One second, one breath, one thought more. And then I let it fly.

Over and over and over, I do it again. Each arrow hits the yellow on the target. One hits the bullseye You know those TV shows where the archer shoots an arrow through the arrow that’s already stuck in the target? Yeah, that’s not possible. No matter how good you are, you will never shoot the same spot twice. A variation in the wind. Not completely blowing out your breath before losing the arrow A fraction less tension. And you suddenly hit a different spot.
So, no i don’t make that miraculous shot from Brave. But I do hit the target and every possible spot around it.
“Holy s hit?” I hear from our right, where Lisa and Harry are. “Nice shooting, Oakley”
I turn to see Harry is the one talking to me
And Lisa glaring. Troll my eyes at her. I can’t even get a compliment from someone that she likes? It is good shooting. And the guy wants you, not me. St upid girls. I smile directly at Harry. “Thank you, Harry. If you would like to practice with us, we’d love to have you look at Lisa. “You’re welcome to be here, too. As long as you drop the glare.
With that, I turn to the target to collect my arrows.
We’re heading to lunch break when I see Ray beckoning me from behind some hedges. I smile broadly, excited to be with him. I don’t know what it is about Ray that just sets me on fire. It’s like I’m not alive unless he’s near me. I have this constant desire, almost like an itch under my skin, to touch him. If I hadn’t already felt the matebond with Levi, still being attached to him even though I’ve rejected him. I would think that Ray was my mate with how much I need him
Fimmediately throw my arms around him, pulling him into a k*ss. He responds instantly, his arms going around my waist, his l*ps pressing against mine. His tongue parts my l*ps, tangling with mine. My hands go into his hair and I press my b*dy into his. Ray’s intoxicating scent filling my lungs.
Both of us respond with moans and I can feel him starting to harden against me, my arousal starting to scent the air. This. This is why I would think he was my mate if I didn’t already have one that wouldn’t let me go. Because I can’t help but need to feel him against me, want him inside of me whenever we are close.
Suddenly Ray pulls away from me. “Wait! Wait! This isn’t why I called you over.”
I smile and nuzzle into his n*eck, sucking on the skin, I feel goosebumps rise along his n*eck as he groans. I whisper into his ear, “Yes, but it’s this an amazing way to spend our time? I have everything you need for lunch right here. I take one of his hands and pull it up to cup my breast.
“F uck!” he hisses, squeezes my breast and moving his head so that I have better access to his n*eck.
I giggle. “That’s exactly what I’m trying to do, baby.”
“Sh it! No! Oakley, I’ve got something important to tell you and I need you to listen.” Ray grabs my shoulders as if he’s going to push me away, but he doesn’t.
“Thave something important to tell you, too,” I whisper along his skin. Rubbing his co ck through his pants, I say, “I want to
f uck you Now”
“Goddess, f ucking hell! Oakley, listen! This time he actually does push me away. “Your family is here. Your brothers and
father. Levi is here.”
