Heart of Ra

Chapter Ch 18

Groaning, she slowly sat up while holding her head before a light glowing caught her attention. Her eyes widened when she looked down, noticing the light was coming from under her and as she tried to stand, her body never moved. Whatever this was, she knew it wasn't good. After a few minutes more, Cleo finally gave up and sighed before looking around. Stone pillars lined the room she was in and the patterns that seemed to be on every stone wall weren't ones she had ever seen before and as she looked up, the shock upon her reflection in the ceiling mirrors were nothing compared to y dread she felt when seeing she was in the middle of some sort of glowing pentagram on the floor.

"What the hell is going on?"

"I'm glad you asked." Cleo's eyes snapped to the man responsible before narrowing then as they followed Horus' descent down a set of stairs, " this is what we gods like to call the summoning room." The dread she felt earlier had grown and as he stopped on the outer ring of the pentagram, she seen what was in his hands.

"Horus, you can't do this. Set isn't going to give you anything nor follow your command." He actually laughed at her and despite the situation she was in, it pissed her off.

"I know exactly what he's going to do when he's finally free, little star. And it's more than I can hope for. Tell me, do you really think that tut himself came up with the idea to lock away set all by himself?" Well it was a possibility. But the look on his face said otherwise, she shook her head, "the other gods planted seeds in his head. They were afraid of what Set could do but he never gave them a reason to be fearful. Well now they will."

As they flew through the air, Ra could finally say he was impressed with Karin. Never in his life had he ever seen a god create a horde of something with a slight touch. Sure weapons and waves of power were natural but creating an army of animals or beings out of thin air was something to behold.

"Are you sure you're a god?" He asked once Karin was once again in the air with them. She gave him a bland look as Ryou just shook his head.

"I'm amazed that you can pull a joke at a time like this." Ryou swooped above them and he was going to ask if Ryou was a tightass before she followed. Making him curious, he followed suite and stopped next to them before looking down at a black mass on the ground.

"There a reason we're not still looking?"

"If you haven't noticed we're at the location." He pinched his nose before a slight growl came from his throat.

"Really? At the moment all I see is fucking sand. Just like how there is sand for miles!"

"We're going through it." That caught his attention as he stared at the man.

"And how are we going to do that?" He looked as Karin chuckled and the wicked glint in her purple hued eyes started making him rethink this whole rescue mission.

"We fall." Next thing he knew her wings were tucked against her and she was falling back towards the ground.

"Does she always do this?"

"You would be surprised what she comes up with." Sighing, they followed suite and Ra was going to pull up before a portal swallowed them whole.

They landed lightly on their feet before looking around. She never seen a place like this ever. It was nothing but stone and torches lining up pathways in every direction.

"Where are we?"

"The chamber of summoners." She glanced at Ra before looking back around at the place. There was more to this place that met the eye and if she was her human self, she'd probably go wander off just to see what secrets it held.

"I'm guessing you know where they are." Ryou said. Ra didn't answer and she knew he was ready to explode. In a blink of an eye she was flying through the halls and chambers with Ra and Ryou right beside her. The glowing light up ahead finally gave them a location and they followed as Ra took the lead. It was clear he was beyond pissed and considering the situation, she didn't blame him for being worried as well. When they reached the chamber, Karin was stunned beyond belief to see Cleo floating in the air above some sort of incantation symbol she didn't recognize with Horus just outside of it's edge with, what one could only assume was, the powers of set. Dread filled her as they got closer and Karin noticed the red glow trailing from the canister into the incantation towards Cleo followed by Horus' voice. Whatever was being said made her skin crawl and it needed to be stopped, it seemed Ra had the same idea since he took off ahead of them to deal with Horus. Now they just needed to get Cleo out of there.

Burning… her whole body was burning as if it was on fire. Try as she might, she couldn't move at all and her mind felt like it would explode. Cleo wasn't sure what was going on anymore. Was Horus even using the right spell? Did Ra or Karin even get her messages? Was...was Horus right about Ra not coming? She definitely wished she hadn't of had that argument with Ra. Another wave of heat went through her before it suddenly stopped and new type of pain went through her. Cleo tried to move but her whole body felt heavy, as if it was being weighed down.

"Cleo!" She tried focusing on the voice but it was hard to do so. She tried to open her eyes but it was hard to focus with her blurry vision. After a few more seconds of trying she was able so see but just barely.

"Cleo, hang on. Okay?" She never seen tears in Karin's eyes before and with the lighting behind her, she almost seemed angel like.

"My...body hurts." It was hard to talk, hell it was hard keeping her eyes open and on reflex she closed them. It hurt less doing it this way.

"Shit! Ra we have to go. Now!!" Noises were heard but at this point, Cleo didn't care. She was tired and just wanted the pain to stop. She tried to open her eyes again, to at least get a glance of Ra but her body wasn't listening. She could feel herself slowly breathing as it was and it hurt to think she wasn't going to be able to tell Ra how sorry she was for leaving or that she loved him.

"What am I gonna do if I lose her?" Ra paced around the living room of the hotel he and Cleo shared before she left. Just the fact that she was in the other room with Karin while he was out here was hard to bare, especially since Karin literally kicked him out.

"You won't." He stopped and looked at the man who had been quiet up til now. It was strange, if he hadn't of seen him with wings or seen him use any of his powers, he would've guessed Ryou was human.

"I don't see how you would know that. You haven't lost Karin." The look on Ryou's face made his blood run cold before the man sighed and pinched his nose.

"Quite the opposite actually. I just about lost Karin on a few different occasions and almost lost my life as well." Ra wasn't sure what to say that but it made him feel guilty. He was about to apologise before Karin stepped into the room with a perplexed look.

"What's wrong?" It took her a few moments before answering.

"Whatever was going on before we got her out seems to have done some inside damage." She ran a hand through her hair before having a staring contest with Ryou.

"I don't think that works here."

"What doesn't?" He looked between the two before folding his arms and glaring at her but she just raised a brow.

"You do realize that that doesn't intimidate me."

"Just tell me!" Karin rolled her eyes before placing a hand on her hip.

"Have you, or any other god, done a blood sharing?" He raised a brow, what the hell was that? "I'll take that as a no."

"What do you guys do to bind someone to you, completely, to make them like you?" Was the man crazy?

"We usually don't. We use to bind the humans to us in the past until they expired. We've never gone beyond that because they would've gone mad with the power." He looked between the two then it dawned on him why they were asking, "hell no! We are not doing that to her!"

"We don't have an option Ra. And we're running out of time."

"Fuck you bird boy, this isn't your life mate we're talking ab-" his head snapped sideways before it was yanked back and he was staring into a set of glowing purple eyes.

"Do you love her?" He nodded, "would you do anything for her?"

"Yes."

"Would you try everything to save her?"

"Of course I would!"

"Then shut the fuck up and do this Ra. Otherwise she will die!" The tears that were once again running down her face shocked him. This was only the second time he ever seen her cry, "please." That last part was barely audible and it made his heart ache. Sighing, he went into the room, took one look at Cleo and prayed he wouldn't fuck this up.

Warmth, that's what she felt but not the intense heat she felt before, this was different. Her whole body felt warm, like a blanket on a cold night or the warmth of a body that was cuddling her. It made her think of all the people that cared for her and how much that feeling made her warm. She frowned. Granted it was true she wasn't feeling cold like she did but she didn't feel as weak either. Something definitely wasn't right. All the pain she was feeling was now dissipating, as if her body was slowly to heal itself. Taking a few moments to think it over, Cleo decided to test it. She tried to wiggle her toes but it was either her mind playing tricks on her so she tried her fingers then paused. This couldn't be real. Slowly, Cleo opened her eyes before flinching. After a few seconds she reopened them before looking around and noticing that she was in Ra's room. Taking a small breath, she sat up slowly only to be surprised there wasn't any pain, throwing her legs over the edge she sat up and looked towards the door. Was he waiting on the other side? Or was this a dream? Taking a chance, she headed towards the door and cracked it open to see Ra asleep on one of the couches while Karin was looking out the window with a dark haired man beside her. This definitely wasn't a dream. Tears filled her eyes before she ran towards her best friend who smiled and caught her.

"I'm so glad you're alive." Cleo felt the arms of her friend tighten as her own tears fell down her cheeks.

"I'm sorry. I'm so sorry." Karin shushed her before someone cleared their throat and they looked towards the couch where Ra now stood with his arms crossed.

"That's my woman you have there." His? That very statement made her bury her face in Karin's chest.

"She was mine first."

"Let them have their moment." Karin gave her a slight push before the two people vanished, leaving only her and Ra in the room.

"So, I'm your woman now?" The quirkiness in voice and the light her eyes made him want to smile. But what he wanted more was her in his arms, actual proof that she was real.

"It's what you are. Mine." She raised a brow and he knew exactly what it meant, Cleo was challenging him to prove it. He smirked as he walked over to her and before she could even decide to bolt, he grabbed her around the waist and claimed her lips with his own. He felt his body relax and his soften slightly around her. Cleo was real. She was here, in his arms and kissing him back. Pulling back slightly, he looked her over and let out a breath he didn't know he was holding.

"Alright spill. What did you do?" He stared at her before laughing.

"Nothing gets passed you, does it?"

"Ra, I'm not stupid. From what little I read, I'm pretty sure I'm suppose to be dead. So again, what did you do?" Sighing, he ran a hand through his hair before making her sit and telling her.

"I basically tied our lives together, Nuri. I couldn't lose you." Cleo chewed on her lip before staring at him. Did he break her? Did she hate him?

"So, what? You're human?" He stared at her before shaking his head.

"No love. You're immortal." It was quiet, way to quiet for his liking and as much as he would rather be in the other room making her scream, Ra knew she needed to process this.

"The mark?" He nodded, "how is that possible? It doesn't make since, considering you said I was already tied to you from the beginning." He remembered what she had said at one point when they were together. It was proof. She needed the proof. Taking off his shirt, he watched her as her eyes widened in shock while she stood and approached him. The question was there in her eyes as she lightly ran her hand over the same mark he now bared on his chest, right above his heart.

"When a god tethers another life to their own, the same mark appears on them as a sign of completion." He tilted her head up so they were looking at each other, "before you ask I did it, it's because I love you Cleo. I don't know what I'd do without you." He wiped away the stray tears that escaped before she kissed him hard.

"I don't think I ever believed I'd be saying this to a god, but I love you too." He smiled and held her close, "so what now?" Scooping her up, he grinned as he carried her back to his room.

"Now, we see how long you can last before you're screaming my name."

"You're an ass!" He kissed the top of her head.

"That may be, but you love this ass."

"Just, shut up and kiss me."

"With pleasure."
