Heart of Ra

Chapter 6

Sitting on her bed, she stared at the ceiling trying to clear her mind but her focus kept going back to the small looking diary that rested on the table by the window. Cleo sighed and rubbed her face before getting up and heading to the bathroom. At this rate, she was going to get a headache from all the stress her dad and this book was causing her. Stepping under the warm water after undressing, she found herself just staring at the floor while her mind drifted off. Something about all of this was off. Now that she thought about it, something that was as valuable like the diary shouldn't have been found so quickly or easily. And the way the words were written and seem to be light couldn't have been from the sand because the book would've been placed in some secret box. She groaned and leaned her head back into the spray. She was definitely going to get a headache after this. Just as she turned off the water, her bathroom door busted in, making her scream and clutched a towel to her chest as she threw the shampoo bottle at the intruder.

“Ow! Son of a bitch!” Her heart pounding, she froze with the conditioner bottle in her hand as her eyes widened.

“Ramses? What the hell?” She set the conditioner bottle down as he stepped into the bathroom with the shampoo bottle.

“You didn't answer me when I called your name, nor when I knocked on the door. Who the hell takes a shower at midnight anyway?” He glared at her and she just shook her head.

“I couldn't sleep. What were you wanting me for?” Ramses ran a hand through his hair and she just couldn't help but let her eyes wonder over his broad shirt free chest before looking lower and blushing noticing he only wore a pair of black boxers.

“I couldn't sleep either and was wondering if you wanted to watch a movie?” She blinked and nodded before looking down at herself.

“Um, that sounds fine but uh, could you give me a few minutes to dress?” His eyes trailed down to the towel and she swore they clouded over. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before turning around stiffly.

“I'll be in the living area.” He walked away. Cleo stood there shocked as hell. She was positive that he would've at least tried to advance on her and the fact that he didn't saddened her somehow. Walking into her room she shook her head then started to dress. It was better this way. She didn't have long to stay here and getting into a relationship when it would more than likely not work out was not a good idea. Sighing, she walked out into the living area and raised a brow at the title screen.

“Seriously? I figured sparkly vampires weren't your thing.”

“They aren't but I figured the movie would bore us enough and we'd fall asleep.” He grinned from his spot on the couch and lifted up a blanket. She shook her head and sat next to him only for him to pull her into his side and throw the blanket over them. This was going to be a long night.

Cleo was still stiff as board fifteen minutes into the movie and he couldn't help but sigh. Cleo was definitely a pain in the ass when she wanted to be and other times she could be relaxed without a care. It was clear that now was the latter of the two. Ramses roamed his hand over the mark and smiled when felt her shiver. It was more than pleasing to know the effect he had on her. He kept a smooth motion of lightly running his hand up and down the mark, causing her to shift every once in while, her heart rate starting to pick up and her breathing unsteady. He felt his own desire start to come to life, both of them not concentrating on the movie but rather on the effect he was causing them. If only he wasn't trying to be the nice guy and let her have space with the little teasing every once in while.

“You never did answer my question.” Her voice was low and breathless.

“About what?”

“How you're able to do this with my birthmark.” He stopped his hand and looked down at her as she turned to look at him.

“I don't really know what you're talking about. All I'm doing is rubbing your arm.” He gave a slight shrug. Ramses wasn't sure if she would be able to take the truth, “besides, you're stiff as a bored and if you keep it up, you won't be going to sleep anytime soon.”

“Have you ever thought that maybe it's your fault?” She raised a brow.

“Oh? How exactly is it my fault?” He watched Cleo cross her arms and rolled her eyes.

“Oh come on. You're basically a distraction. Everything about you screams fuck me. Then there is the fact that you look ready to kill anything and everything that pops out of the shadows.” He couldn't help but be surprised. He didn't think she would be that observant of him.

“So you're basically telling me you think I'm attractive?”

“Is that all you really got out of that?” He sighed and got up. This was getting ridiculous.

“Is it wrong that I'm over cautious?” He turned around and gave her a hard stare. She looked taken back.

“What? No. I was-”

“Then why does it matter?”

“It doesn't. I was just-” he sighed.

“Then leave it alone. It's a pointless topic.” He turned around and headed for the double side door.

“Where are you going?”

“To bed.” He closes the doors behind him then headed for his room. He sighed as he stared out the window, he was going to have to shift soon or he was going to lose control and the last person he wanted to hurt was Cleo.

She stared at the closed door in shock. What in the hell just happened? She thought they were having a normal conversation until he started to flip out. He acted like she was accusing him of something or judging him. She sighed. Of course he would. Hell, she would act the same way if she was in his place. She slightly ran her hand over the marl and shivered, still feeling the tingles that ran through her. Standing up, she headed for the double sided doors knowing full well that she wasn't going to be happy if she left things the way they were between them. Maybe Ramses needed space but her apologizing was the best thing for them. Knocking on the door that led to his room, she felt stupid when he didn't knock on hers at all, when no answer came she opened the door and noticed it was pitch black.

“Ramses?” Cleo looked around but it was pretty hard when the shutters were closed. It didn't appear he was in the living space. She chewed on her bottom lip as she thought whether or not to go check in his room but he didn't want to intrude in his personal space. However, she didn't know why but she had the need to at least give him some sort of apology.

“Don't you know it's dangerous to walk into the lion's den?” She nearly screamed but he placed his hand over her mouth and she felt her cheeks heat up when she felt his body shake behind her from his laughter. “Sorry love, didn't mean to scare you.” She pulled his hand away and spun around, jabbing her finger into his chest.

“I swear to the god Ra, if you weren't you I would've kicked you in the balls so hard for that stunt.” She heard him chuckle and she sighed, “what were you doing in the dark anyway?”

“It keeps me at ease, helps me think clearly. What I want to know is, why are you here?” She could definitely imagine him raising a brow at her. Thank the gods he couldn't see the blush on her cheeks.

“I wanted to apologize for earlier.”

“Oh?” He sounded confused and surprised at the same time.

“I wasn't trying to make it seem like I was judging you. I was just curious and never really seen anyone act the way you do.” It was like he knew something she didn't and she felt on the outside. Or maybe her dad had really gotten to him she felt Ramses breath against her cheek and from the dark silhouette of him, he had leaned down a little. Of course he had to, she only came up to his shoulders, stupid six foot giant.

“I know a way you can make it up to me.” Cleo felt the tingles run from the mark on her arm to the rest of her body and straight to the center of her thighs.

“How?” She couldn't control how breathless she sounded. Damn her hormones.

“Kiss me.” Her eyes winded.

“What?” She must've misheard him. He didn't possible say he wanted her to kiss him. Did he?

“I want you to kiss me.” Yep that is definitely what he said.
