Heart of Ra

Chapter 14

She stood back with the director and looked around the museum. It was finished. Ready to be officially opened in just a few minutes so everyone could come in and see exactly what the buzz was all about. Cleo smiled when she seen the director look amazed and proud at what they had accomplished. No doubt this would be the biggest showing ever, especially with all the new pieces they had.

“Well Cleo, are you ready?” Her smile grew as she nodded and opened the door.

People filed in left and right and the look on their faces made this all the better. As the hours went by Cleo happily answered questions and showed the guests around. But despite all this, she couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. She shook it off and excused herself from the director and headed into the bathroom and sighed. Either she was feeling ill or there really was something wrong and she couldn't put her finger on it.

“Looks like you're having fun.” She glanced up on the mirror and raised a brow.

“And last time I checked this was the lady's room not the guys.” A dark chuckled echoed through the room as Horus stepped out of the shadows.

“What can I say? I like to live on the edge.” She rolled her eyes and turned around to face him while crossing her arms.

“What is that you want?” She needed to get back out there and help the director some more.

“I wouldn't worry about the director sweetheart. He's fine. You on the other are not.”

“Why is that?” She was really over this. Then again being in a room with a god is just a pain in the ass. Even Ra proved that.

“Because that idiot brother of mine hasn't given me what I wanted but I have found his weakness. You do know what that symbol on your arm means, correct?” Yes, she had that talk after hours of pleasure. She nodded and Horus just chuckled, “then you realize that you're the key to destroying him completely.” She froze.

“What are you talking about?”

“You should've read more of the journal. You see, Cleopatra bared my mark up until she was killed.” That was news to her but still it didn't make any sense to her, “baring the mark of a god is one of the worst things to happen. In a way… I guess you could say you're now his heart.” She furrowed his brows.

“Are you high? You're not making any sense.”

“That's because you aren't listening.” In a blink of an eye he had her pinned against the wall with her arms above her her head, “Ra told you to stay away from me and you should have listened. By baring his mark you are the reason he can breathe and get through the day. You are the reason that gives him a purpose and after all he's done, he doesn't deserve you.” She should've been scared but ended up getting pissed.

“He didn't kill her Harus! And how dare you accuse him of it.”

“I know he didn't.” He grinned, “I did and I hated every moment of it. But I think it's time we go home, no?” Before she could ask, he leaned his head down and kissed her, turning her whole world black.

Ra appeared in Cleo's living space and sighed. After spending his time in the Underworld and talking to Anubis, he still came up with nothing. It was possible that Cleo could've been wrong but it would've made sense. Even Anubis agreed with that but he still have any clues that could help. He ran a hand through his hair as he turned on the lamp, he was going to have to tell Cleo everything so that they could figure this out. Their time was basically up. He froze as Horus sat there with a lazy grin on his face as an unconscious Cleo next to him on the couch.

“Your time's up Ra.”

“I still have a few days Horus.” Horus rolled his eyes then shrugged before grinning as Cleo came to. She looked around before glaring at Horus.

“Fucking asshat.” Ra clenched his fists as Horus laughed and caught her around the waist as she tried to move away from him.

“Tsk tsk.” He then turned attention back to Ra, “now, I expected you to give me what I wanted by I can see you don't plan on doing that so I guess I'm going to have to give you a reason to do so.” Horus held up a ball of energy and tightened his grip Cleo as she tried to get away.

“Horus, don't!”

Something buzzed through the air before Cleo was basically thrown away from Horus and into the arms of Ra before they both tumbled to the ground.

“Are you alright?” She looked at Ra and seen both of his eyes glowing and nodded.

“Yeah, I'm fin-” her sentence was cut short when Horus made a strangled roar sound and as they both looked over towards what had the god so angry, Cleo's eyes widened in shock.

“You shouldn't touch what doesn't belong to you.” Cleo's eyes watered at the sight of her friend, who she hasn't seen in years. Her blonde hair was in a ponytail and those eyes she loved so much when they brightened to purple was always her favorite thing to look at. Ra's grip on Cleo tightened as they both slowly stood up.

“Who is that?” His voice was low and cautious. Before she could answer Horus started attacking.

“Karin!” She went to move but Ra kept a firm grip on her. Karin hit the wall and barely missed a ball of power that Horus sent at her and she retaliated. They moved so fast it was hard for Cleo to keep up.

Who the fuck was this woman? Ra couldn't keep his surprise at bay as he watched this human take on his brother like she taking on a damn ball. With one swift kick into his side, Ra watched as Horus slid across the room but what shocked him most was the color of her eyes and how brightly they were glowing. Apparently his assumption of the female being human was off. He moved himself and Cleo on the opposite side of the room as Horus got up glaring at Karin. She didn't move from her spot as she narrowed her eyes.

“Don't bother Horus, you won't be awaking anyone anytime soon.” Ra furrowed his brows as he looked at his shocked faced brother.

“I don't know what you're talking about sweetheart.” She narrowed her eyes more and the shutters to the windows blew open, making Ra's eyes widen. Horus laughed before vanishing out the window. Karin went to follow but Cleo pushed out of his grip, ran towards Karin and wrapped her arms around her waist.

“Karin don't! It isn't worth it!” It didn't dawn on him that Cleo was crying until the moon lit the tears that were on her face. Karin sighed as she slowly turned around in Cleo's arms and hugged her to her chest.

“Cleo, no more tears.” She looked towards Ra, her eyes still glowing, “can you fix the room? I don't think you wanna pay for a destroyed room.” He couldn't blame her for asking. With a snap of his fingers, the room looked good as knew, just like it did before it was destroyed. A knock sounded on the door and Cleo excused herself to answer it.

“Mind telling exactly what just happened between you and my brother?” Karin turned towards him and raised a brow.

“Don't act like you don't know about him awakening Set.” He could his blood drain from his face as he stared at her in shock.

“Well I settled the issue with the ….” Cleo came back and must've noticed the look on his face, “what's wrong?”

“I think it's time we had a talk.” Karin stated as she crossed her arms. Oh fuck, this wasn't going to be good.
