Heart of Ra

Chapter 12

She rubbed her temples. After the conversation with Star and finding out what Horus had said, it was hard to believe anything was real at this point. Her mind felt ready to explode and Cleo wasn't sure she was going to survive. She knew Ramses was outside her bedroom but she wasn't ready to face him just yet. The book was laying on the table and from the corner of her eye, she could've sworn it glowed, beckoning her to read it. After a few seconds, she sighed and grabbed the book then opened it only to close it once more with wide eyes. There was no way in hell that was possible. She slowly opened it again and stared at it like it was going to bite her. The words, ones that were once worn and faded to the point where it couldn't have been read, were staring at her clear as day as if it were written just minutes ago. Not a smidge or faded edge were anywhere near the sentences that the words made up. After closing the book, Cleo sat there in utter shock. Anyway she looked at it, there was more than meets the eye when it came to Ramses and Horus. Lightly touching her lips, she shook her head and stood, glaring at the door. It was time she got the truth.

She walked into the sitting area and noticed Ramses was sitting there staring at the wall. Cleo had to get him to confess and she was sure that once she found out, it was going to piss her off. She walked over and raised a brow at the sweets that he had next to him.

“I didn't take you for a sweets person.”

“It isn't for me. They're for you.” He stood and tilted his head at her, “I was hoping these would put you in a better mood. If I had known that it was that time of the month I would've-”

“Did you just accuse me of being on my period?” She glared at him and he nodded without shame. The bastard, “so, I can't have a bad day unless I'm pmsing. Is that it? You're such a pig brained asshole who wouldn't know what to do if I was on my period and I don't do chocolate!” She stormed into the kitchen and started going through the cupboards.

“So, who's Karin?”

“She’s a friend of mine that's in Japan.” She slammed the cupboard closed after getting out a cup and she heard him sigh.

“What's got you so upset, nuri? This isn't like you?” Cleo turned on him and narrowed her eyes.

“Do you trust me Ramses?” His eyes widened slightly and he nodded, “no, I mean really trust me. Do you trust me enough that you could tell me every secret you had?” He narrowed his eyes at her and she sighed. She figured this wasn't going to be easy.

“Everyone has secrets Cleo. Why would you want to know mine? Isn't having my trust enough?” She shook her head and slumped her shoulders.

“You're hiding things from me, you should be able to tell me what they are instead of acting like you're going to get jumped by the damn devil.” She walked past him and acting like she was digging in her purse. If he was going to be defensive about it all, then she was going to trick him into telling her.

“What are you doing?” She looked at him and pulled out her phone.

“I'm calling Horus, he'll tell me the truth about- hey!” He snatched her phone and she took a step back with wide eyes. She felt her heart wanting to burst as Ramses eyes glowed and the air around them seem to pulse with a dangerous power. The fear and shock she felt turned into anger and she couldn't help but lash out, “you're an utter asshole Ra!” His eyes widened in surprise before narrowing again in suspicion. He opened his mouth but she held her up to stop him, “you do realize you gave yourself away? You're freaking stupid!”

“You're…. Handling this better than I thought.” He muttered before everything seemed to calm down.

“I'm anything but handling this! Do you have any idea how bad I thought I was going crazy!?” she laughed before pinned him in his place with a glare and pointed a finger at him, “Since you're not denying any of it, this just means it's true.” Cleo slumped in the arm chair and placed her head in her hands. She should be throwing chairs and demanding he get out. She could slam the door in his face but knowing what she read about gods, he'd just poof back in.

“Cleo,” he removed her hands from her face gently and was kneeling in front of her. Something was still bugging her. She could feel it and she knew he could sense it. Somehow, “tell me what you want.”

“Show me.” She watched as he stared at her, searching for any sign of hesitation but knew he would find none. This is what she needed. She needed the proof in order to accept it a hundred percent. Ra sighed and stood as he ran his hand through his hair then looked at her.

“Are you sure?” Cleo nodded. He groaned and took a few steps back with his back facing her. There was no going back after this.
