Chapter 11
She ran, trying to erase the events of yesterday. It was a good feeling to get out and exercise despite how busy it was during the early morning. It was funny in a way that it was going to be cooler than it was the past few days. Coming to a stop outside a small antique shop, Cleo went in deciding she needed a break from the exercise she put upon herself. Looking around she noticed it didn't really seem like an antique store at all, more like a wiccan place or something along those lines. She was looking at some vile of what appeared to be grass when a small child like voice came from behind her.
“Welcome to goddess of the soul and heart. How may I help you?” The voice made her smile and when she turned around, the small pixie like girl gasped, “oh my god! Cleo!” She launched herself at Cleo, and she couldn't help laugh.
“Hi Star. How have you been?” She caught one of her best friends as they hugged.
“As you can see I've been great!” Star smiled before slightly frowning and tilting her head, “though...I do wonder what brings you here.” she sighed and told Star everything that had happened. By the time she was finished, they were sitting at a table, drinking coffee.
“Honestly, I don't even know what to think. If it wasn't for my uncle knowing the museum director here, I'd be on the first plane home.” She rubbed her temples.
“Look, everything happens for a reason. Even Karin has said that.” Star sipped her coffee and looked at her from the rim of the mug, “have you ever thought that maybe there might be some truth in all of this? I mean honestly; from the small part of the journal you read, and the talk with Horus, don't you think that you should at least consider that the truth is right in front of you?”
“Do you hear yourself, Star? You're basically telling me to believe in something that doesn't exist at all.” Star set her cup down.
“What I'm saying is, considering the facts that are laid out in front of you, maybe it's time to stop being in denial. It's obvious that fairytales exist, considering you're talking to a witch and your other friend is from a long as line of gods, from the stories she's been told, I think it's time you start opening your eyes about all this.” She had a point. Not everything is what it seemed from the way Ramses always seemed to be on the defense when they were in public or as of recently, since Horus arrived.
Cleo sighed. She grew up around all of this and yet, she still denied any of this being true. She looked down at her birthmark and ran a hand over it. Maybe it wasn't as far fetched as it seemed. For starters, Ramses seemed to know exactly what to do with her birthmark and it never sent a tingling sensation throughout her body when someone else touched it. Not even herself. Looking up at Star, the look on her face made her think her friend knew exactly what was playing through her head. Right now, Cleo's head was a mess and as far as she was willing to go with all of this, it was speculation. She sighed again.
“Okay, say I did believe. What does all of this mean?”
“Well, you would belong to Ra in more ways than one. Birthmark or not, that's his symbol that you bear and only he can do as he pleases with you.” That didn't make any sense.
“A person can't belong to anyone, Star. It isn't logically possible.” Star nodded seeming to get the point.
“That may be but we aren't talking about just anyone Cleo. These are gods that, may I remind you, had a influence in this country thousands and thousands of years.”
“Then what does this all mean?” Cleo wasn't sure she liked the sadden yet happy look Star was giving her.
“It means, your journey is just beginning.” That was great. She groaned and facepalmed the table, making the coffer cups rattle in protest. This was going to be the death of her.
He watched as Cleo came in with a worn out expression. Something was off and he couldn't put his finger on it.
“You do know you don't need to wait up for me, right?”
“I was worried.” He couldn't lie about that one. Cleo sighed before looking irritated. Whatever happened when she went out definitely changed her mood. Although it wasn't pleasing that she went out in shorts and a sports bra. There was too much skin exposed.
“Ramses you're not my dad or brother and you're definitely not my damn boyfriend so stop acting like it. I'm a big girl and can handle my own.” That irked him. A lot.
“Look I'm doing as your-”
“I don't give a shit if the sky is falling! Who fucking cares about Ra coming to get me?! Worry about you and you're stupid ass brother!” He stared at her with wide eyes and shock. He never seen her this upset nor has she lashed out at him. Cleo sighed and headed towards her room, “just… Leave me alone for a little bit.” was this her time of the month? Was it even possible for a immortal like him to sense it? He wasn't sure and he definitely didn't want to know. Running a hand through his hair, he wondered if it was best to leave her alone like she said or try to cheer her up. One thing he was sure of, something had upset her and he was going to do his best to find out what it was the nice way or force it out of her.
After arriving back to the human realm, Ramses looked down at the box of chocolates and tub of cookies he purchased and sighed. From what Basat said, when human females went through PMS, they required sweets, mostly chocolate to calm them down. He groaned, wanting to be deep in the afterlife after the female body lecture his daughter had given him. To say he was horrified would've been an under statement. Raising his hand to knock, he paused as Cleo's voice drifted from her room. Who was she talking to?
“Sorry if I'm bugging you, I know you're busy. How's Japan?” He furrowed his brows as he stared at the door.
“Oh, Mr. and Mrs. Ledger told me when they stopped by the museum. I didn't know that it was a secret.” She giggled and he raised a brow. Did some other guy have her acting this way? He debated whether or not to just use his powers and materialize into the room to demand answers.
“Karin, I'm sure it's not all bad. Besides it's… I guess okay?” She sighed, “honestly, I'm starting to regret ever coming here. So far its been stranger than you making the wind blow.” Now his curiosity was peeked. He knocked and waited but she never answered the door.
“Cleo, I brought snacks as a peace offering.” He heard her mumble something before raising her voice.
“Just set them on the table.” that wasn't going to happen.
“Cleo, please come out.”
“I'm on the phone. Go away.” he sighed then heard her sigh before she gasped, “crap I forgot to ask Star what de almajhul shuhid meant.” He froze and stared at the door. Where in the hell did she learn that phrase?
“Let the unknown be seen? What the hell does that even mean? Sorry, I'll let you go. Yeah it was good talking to you too. Bye.” oh she had a lot more to answer for.
