Chapter 7
Chapter 7
“Oh my, what’s wrong with you? You must have been pushed around by Frederic. I’ll go to the Hudson family for an explanation. How dare they bully my daughter?” My mom was freaked out. She hurriedly sat on the bed and held me in her arms.
“Mom, Frederic has never bullied me. I’m just so touched. You’re so nice to me…” I sobbed with my arms around my mom’s waist.
Frederic didn’t bully me indeed. Everything was my wishful thinking. I asked for it myself.
He was clearly a bad man while I was a stupid wooer.
My mom patted my back gently and heaved a deep sigh. I was her only daughter. She knew me best. How could she not know what I had suffered due to Frederic?
I wasn’t a crybaby. I wouldn’t cry unless I was really sad.
“Do you still want the chicken?” she asked me.
“Yes, I really miss that…” I wiped the tears off me and got up. Then, holding my mom’s arm, I went downstairs with her to eat the fried chicken.
My dad must be asleep. Only my mom and I were chatting in the dining room. The chicken smelt really good. I ate most of it. These years, I always ate little. Now that I’d eaten so much, I almost puked.
My mom patted my back. “How can you eat so much? You may not be able to fall asleep if you are overstuffed.”
“I was too hungry.” I tittered. The last time I had a hearty meal was when I graduated. I had dinner with Greta and the others to celebrate graduation. After graduation, I married Frederic and started a
miserable life.
“Eat slowly even if you’re hungry. Stop when you feel 80% full,” my mom said gently.
I said coquettishly to her while holding her arm, “Mom, sleep with me tonight and tell me about the tricks to keep healthy!”
My mom just agreed without hesitation.
When I woke up the next day, I felt a sense of relaxation that I had never felt. I just ate and slept well. After having breakfast at home, I headed to the hospital.
Ruben was looking at his phone. His leg wasn’t sprained, but the external wound was a bit serious. He had a few stitches in his leg, and it was thickly bandaged. He couldn’t move his leg at will.
“What brought you here?” Ruben was a bit surprised and shy to see me. “Actually, you don’t need to worry too much about me or come to visit me often.”
Of course I was worried about him. I cracked a gentle smile and turned my head to say to Marcel, “Marcel, bring the things inside.”
Marcel put a bunch of supplements by Ruben’s bed.
Upon seeing those things, Ruben was apparently surprised and flattered. He gave an embarrassed look. “It’s just some minor wound. It’s not that serious.”
“Anyway, you’re injured.” I sat by his bed with a smiling face.
“By the way, I don’t know your name yet,” Ruben suddenly said.
“You may call me Sylvia,” I answered honestly and didn’t find anything wrong about that, though I was indeed six years older than Ruben.
Ruben nodded. “OK, Sylvia.”
I started to chat with Ruben in his ward. The college student’s mind was always simple and innocent. Ruben was in the third year of college and majored in civil. He was having a summer break. He was a good young man who worked his way through school.
He talked about the future and his adorable girlfriend. His dream was to have a stable job and marry his beloved girl after graduation.
I cackled and instantly felt it was a bit rude. So, I hurriedly puckered my lips.
Ruben asked me hesitantly, “Sylvia, why did you laugh?”
I stroked the tip of my nose and answered in a soft voice, “Nothing. It’s just… You remind me of my college life. I used to have this kind of wish before.”
“Which university did you graduate from?” Ruben asked curiously.
I took a meaningful look at him. “Aroma University.”
Actually, Frederic and I were sort of seniors to Emilia and Ruben.
As expected, Ruben exclaimed in surprise, “You went to the same university as I do. We are schoolfellows.”
I also pretended to be happy. “Yeah, what are the odds?”
There were a few universities in Aroma City. Aroma University was the No. 3 university nationwide. Since one could be admitted to this university, regardless of his family background, he must be smart and
have a bright future after graduation. Even if he couldn’t make a big fortune, he could live a well–off life.
If Emilia didn’t meet Frederic, Ruben’s dream could probably come
true.
So, Ruben and I chatted about Aroma University again. He was quite chatty. So was I. As we were talking merrily, someone came in and said in a sweet voice, “Ruben, here I come!”
Hearing that, I recalled Frederic’s exclusive phone ringtone in the last life.
It was the same voice with the same tone.
I turned my head only to see that Emilia was wearing a white chiffon dress. Her black hair was tumbling over her shoulders, and the ends curled naturally. She looked pretty with an innocent yet feminine air.
I didn’t envy physical beauty, but the vigor exuded from the young body at the age of 20 was really envious.
When I was 20, I had a crush on Frederic for three years. I spent the best time on some lethal unrequited love.
Why could Emilia gain Frederic’s wild affection while I could only hide my obsession in my diary?
“Emilia!” Ruben was euphoric to see Emilia and then instantly felt guilty. “Well, if I had known you would come, I wouldn’t have let you know. I don’t want you to worry about me.”
Holding flowers, Emilia walked over lightly like a swan. “How silly of you! How could you not tell me since you’re injured?”
I got up and let Emilia have the only chair.
I was calm, because I would let her have Frederic too. The chair was not a big deal.
“Oh, it’s you!” Emilia suddenly recognized me. She stared at me in surprise. “Why are you here?”
It was because I hit Ruben.
I laughed with embarrassment. “I’m sorry. I hit Ruben by accident. So, I came here to pay him a visit.”
Emilia looked at me and shifted her gaze to Ruben. Surprisingly, she didn’t blame me or Ruben. Instead, she laughed, “What a coincidence! Ruben, this lady has often come to have coffee in our café these days. She’s a nice person. It must be an accident that she hit you.”
Her thoughtfulness struck me dumb. It might be an accident for other people, but it was different for me. I swooped in to hit him at that time.
“I know. Sylvia couldn’t do that on purpose. She also compensated me with extra money. But I don’t think I should take it.” Ruben scratched his head awkwardly.
“That’s not appropriate. A proper compensation is enough.” Emilia immediately took out her phone. “Sylvia, please give me your bank account number. I’ll give the extra money back to you.”
Probably it was her disregard for money that drew Frederic’s attention?
She didn’t smell of money at all. Her eyes were entirely pure.
I was so speechless. She could always make my designer clothes appear cheap.
