Chapter 5
Chapter 5
“Marcel, go to the housekeeping company to find some reliable nannies, the kind that cooks especially delicious, preferably with a dietitian certificate,” I sat in the back seat with a bunch of tonics and thoughtfully instructed Marcel.
“Alright, Mrs. Hudson,” Marcel said.
After I married Frederic, both our parents proposed to hire a few servants for house cleaning, yard trimming, and cooking, but I turned them down, as I loved Frederic helplessly.
I loved Frederic so much that in our place, I felt like an extra person would be an eyesore, who would interfere with my intimacy with him, such as sex from the living room to the kitchen and so on.
The results could be imagined. I wasn’t a widow, yet I lived like one.
Now that I was born again, I refused to have such stupid illusions ever again.
When I got home. I walked ahead with my Prada handbag, and Marcel followed me with a bunch of tonic packs. As soon as I opened the door. Frederic came down from upstairs, sorting out his cuffs at the same time. His casual action was the most charming.
“Marcel, you may go now,” I put down my handbag and said to Marcel.
Marcel put the tonic packs on the table and then bent respectfully to Frederic before leaving in a hurry.
“There’s a cocktail party in an hour. Your parents will be there, too.

Get ready and come with me,” Frederic did not care what I brought back, and he simply informed me plainly.
He never wanted to take me to any occasion, unless I was useful, like those occasions where my parents would attend.
I hadn’t been back to see my parents since I was born again. It wasn’t because I was unfilial, but because after what happened in the last life, I was still ashamed of and therefore timid about facing them.
“I see. OK.” I got up and went to the second floor.
I hadn’t been idle these past two weeks. I bought a new batch of clothes. Both style and shape of these clothes were very different from the previous dull.
I chose a red dress. It was with an off–shoulder design and a sexy V- neck shape at the chest area. It was sewn with a layer of thin gauze, which was faintly visible. The lower hem of the dress was in the shape of a fishtail, which could reveal my slender and straight calves.
Although I was unbelievably skinny, my skin was fair enough. I was 1.68 meters, and I felt good about myself.
Innocent–type women such as Emilia weren’t exactly my taste. I wasn’t
- 20.
After I finished my makeup, I put on a set of crystal earrings and matching necklaces, which were sure to blind others in the spotlight. My previous restrain was all replaced by ostentation.
Frederic was waiting for me downstairs. He was on the phone and did not respond after hearing me coming down the stairs, not even wanting to look at me. I didn’t give a damn. I went to wait for him in the car.
A few minutes later, Frederic came out. From getting in the car to leaving, his gaze never fell on me for a second.
Along the way, neither Frederic nor I said a word.
He drove, while I played on my phone. I had friended Ruben on Line, and now I was showing my concerns for him.
I texted, “Ruben, if you don’t like the food in the hospital canteen, I’ll send someone to bring some food to you.”
Ruben replied, “No need. The food here is fine.”
I texted, “I forgot to buy you some supplements today. Maybe tomorrow. I’ll bring you some when I visit you tomorrow.”
Ruben replied, “I mean it. You’re being too kind.”
I said, “It’s not like that. I am the one who hit you and put you in the hospital. Don’t be embarrassed. Tell me if there’s anything.”
Ruben and Emilia’s families were with similar backgrounds. In Emilia’s eyes, Frederic was a rich, handsome young man, then I was qualified to be a rich, pretty young woman in front of Ruben.
It was a close contest. Thinking, I felt somehow balanced.
There was a red light ahead, so Frederic stopped the car. He finally moved his neck and glanced sideways at me, realizing in hindsight that I was different today, but his words were still harsh. “The dress becomes a waste when you wear it.”
Sure enough, all those TV dramas in which the heroine changed her style to impress the hero were all fake.
I put down my phone, used my hands to lift my bosom, and asked,
“Really?”
My over–bold action successfully let his face darken again. He coldly said, “Sylvia, behave yourself, OK?”
“Why?” I asked.
I had behaved myself for years. What good did it do to me? Those who were dead once were always a bit freer and more unrestrained. I thought that instead of confining myself, it might as well be better to behave however I wanted.
“Don’t forget who you are.” Frederic sounded gloomy.
He didn’t treat me like his wife, but he demanded that I used this identity to discipline myself.
I turned my head to look at the scenery outside the window and didn’t want to speak. If it were in the past, whenever Frederic took the initiative to say a few words to me, I would be extremely delighted and try my best to find topics to talk about to avoid the end of our conversation.
After arriving at the cocktail party, we pretended to be a harmonious couple. We chatted with several familiar business partners, and then I found a place to sit down and rest alone.
Coincidentally, a young woman sat beside me. After taking a closer look, I realized that it was the woman who became a trending topic recently by getting a hotel room together with Frederic.
“Gianna, why are you sitting here alone? another woman walked over and asked Gianna Conway.
“I’m taking a break here, Jayleen. Come and join me for a while,” Gianna said, her voice extremely sweet.
I found that Frederic seemed to dig women with nice voices, including both Emilia and all the dates he was rumored to have affairs with.
The two started chatting next to me, and no one seemed to notice me.
Jayleen kept joking with Gianna, “Your man Mr. Hudson is there.
and say hello?”
Won’t you go
“Nonsense. My man? He has a wife,” Gianna replied shyly.
“Seriously? Practically, no one has seen his wife. You might as well say that he is single. Everyone knows you’ve been closest to him lately. I hear he bought you a place?” Jayleen sounded full of envy.
“Yes. He has been kind to me,” Gianna said, bragging. “I don’t know why. I feel lucky to meet him.”
Frederic was generous to everyone, except me, his wife, who existed in name only.
Every woman who had an affair with him would say good things about him after they broke up. That was the beauty of money,
At this time, my parents came over. They saw me sitting alone and asked, “Syl, where is Frederic? Why isn’t he with you?”
Hearing Frederic’s name, both Gianna and Jayleen turned to look at me at once. I was certain that their expressions were amusing.
I got up, took my mom’s arm, and said, acting like a spoiled child, “What’s the fun of staying with him? It’s always about talking business with a bunch of people. I’d rather talk to you. It’s more interesting.”
My mom looked at me with surprise because I hadn’t talked to her like this in years.
“You may talk. I’ll go chat with Jamir and the others.” My dad was not –sensitive to emotional changes at all. He sensed nothing regarding my
changes and simply went to find Jamir Baldwin and other of his
friends.
