Chapter 19
Chapter 19
“Evie, Ernie, I got this.” I nodded.
Kira walked over. “Mrs. Hudson, lunch is ready.”
Evie looked at her and complimented, “It smells delicious.”
I gave a meaningful laugh. “Kira is an excellent cook. I have already put on a kilogram ever since we had her. Evie, you should taste more of Kira’s food.”
“I’ll be back in a few days. How many chances do I get? You are too slim. You should put on more weight,” said Evie as we walked to the dining room.
I really wanted to tell her there would be plenty of chances.
It was rare for us to have a family dinner, yet Frederic was acting aloof. But the atmosphere was still good as I chatted and laughed with my in- laws.
Suddenly, Frederic’s phone buzzed. He unlocked it and glanced at it. Then he looked over at me with a strange look in his eyes.
I found it weird, but I didn’t care.
Frederic finally came to my room after lunch. He showed me a picture. “You did this?”
“Sylvia did it.”
Tristan sent Frederic a picture along with the words.
The lipstick in the cup was bathed in the coffee, looking very
unharmonious.
I admitted it. “Yes. That’s for telling me off in front of your parents.”
“Sylvia, have you been out of your mind?” Frederic put away his phone and sized me up, squinting. “What do you want?”
The old me had never mingled with his friends.
Now I even threw lipstick into Tristan’s cup!
“I am not out of my mind. I thought it through,” I calmnly explained. “Frederic. I have spent ten years on you. Since you won’t fall in love with me and give me anything in return, how is it my fault that I try to move on with my own life? I won’t let myself suffer like I used to anymore.”
“Since you have been suffering for the past ten years, why haven’t you given up sooner?” Frederic looked aggressive, with coldness in his beautiful eyes.
“I will decide when I’m going to give up!” I said, a little angry.
There was tension. Frederic stared at me for a long time like he was facing a stranger.
We were both silent for a moment, and finally, Frederic left. I breathed a sigh of relief and slumped into the bed, feeling empty.
As soon as Frederic left the house in the afternoon, I left too, and I
went to Encounter Café.
Every time I was here, Emilia would be here. But that day, I asked Tristan to meet me at the cafe, and she was not there. This was strange.
“Sylvia, your usual black coffee?” Emilia always pinned her hair high at work, making her look very neat. She was friendly to every
customer, wearing a sweet smile.
“No. Do you have something sweeter?” I asked, smiling.
“We do. Capuccino and Macchiato are nice. They are sweet and will make you feel like you are in love.” Emilia recommended the coffee to me briskly.
I thought for a while and ordered a Macchiato.
