Chapter 61
Adella Arcos - POV
It was pitch dark inside, so I quickly opened my apartment door, just in case someone was inside, I would be able to run out of here easily. Even though I was able to see to a certain extent, my heart was still palpitating. I quickened my pace, reached the light switch in the living room, and turned it on.
The balcony door was open, which made me frantically look around to see if anything was stolen, but everything was in its rightful place. I walked into my bedroom, and that was when the scent struck me. It was definitely a very familiar scent, and when my brain fixed the puzzle, I felt my throat close in fear.
He has come into my house. But for what?
I began my search for something, but I didn't find anything I finally found a box of cookies on the kitchen counter with a note attached to the box.
Have some sweets before things get spicy.
I wanted to immediately call Jose and tell him about this or even take a taxi and go to the nearest pack that I recently joined, but I held myself back. The moon was shining bright outside, and the bustling streets outside had quietened down, which would not be a safe option for me to travel.
I looked everywhere in the house, making sure that he was not hiding inside before I securely locked each and every door, and made my way to my room. After taking a shower and changing my clothes, I went to my bed and lay down with a silver knife under my pillow for extra safety.
I was on edge for that whole week, but I didn't tell Jose about anything when we met each other a few times after our last day out. It's not that don't want to tell him, but I have begun to get more confident in myself, and I know that I will be able to take care of myself.
“What are you thinking about?” Jose asked me, breaking me from my train of thought. This is our fifth day out, and I have come to learn so much about him. And I think my anger toward him has also gradually reduced. I know some people would wonder as to why I am giving him a second chance when he cheated on me.
But we are all humans, and we should learn to forgive one another if the person who committed a mistake is ready to ask for our forgiveness, in that case, Jose has shown a lot of improvement in his character and attitude toward me. Even though I had loved him before, I had fallen deeper in love with this new Jose.
“I was wondering what should I gift Summer for her baby shower,” I told him, and a smile appeared on his face.
“Give me a minute,” he said and got up from his place and walked outside. A few minutes later, he came back inside, and after placing some cash on the table for our food, he pulled me up using my hand.
“Let's go.”
“Where are we going?” I asked him as I quickly grabbed my bag and walked out of the cafe with him.
“You will see,” Jose said. We walked downtown till we soon approached a boutique. When we were getting close to the door, a woman smiled at us, which slightly stirred the jealousy within me.
“You should thank your lucky stars that I came to town today.” the woman spoke to Jose when we reached her, and he nodded his head before he turned around to face me.
“Adella, this is Jasmin, my younger sister.” he introduced her to me. The smile on her face only stretched further, and she extended her hand for a handshake.
“It's nice to finally meet you, Adella. You have no idea how many times I have asked this idiot to take me to your house.” Jasmin said.
“It's nice meeting you, Jasmin,” I said.
I should have guessed it earlier when I noticed the familiar look on both of them.
“Jose told me you were finding it hard to find a gift.”
“So, this is whom you were speaking to?” I asked him with a raised eyebrow, and he nodded his head with a proud smile on his face.
“She has a really good eye in all this, so I thought about inviting her to join us today,” Jose explained, but the smile was slightly flattered. “You don't mind, right?” he asked me, sounding worried, and I shook my head.
“Of course not,” I answered.
“Okay, so shall we go shopping then?” Jasmin asked me, and I nodded my head. She took me to almost all the shops available here while also giving me suggestions as to what I should gift, and by the end of the day, I got Summer a hand-painted dress with matching accessories and some unisex clothes for the baby.
“Thank you so much, Jasmin. I don't think I would have been able to decide on a gift without your help.”
“You're welcome. Also, do come home when you get the time, all right?” she asked me, and I nodded my head.
“Okay, I will see you home later,” Jose said, and after waving at us, she walked towards her car and left the place. Jose drove me back to my apartment and parked the car in front of the building. A serene silence descended inside the car while both of us looked at the streets outside.
“Thank you,” Jose said, which made me turn around to look at him.
“For what?”
“For giving me a second chance and spending time with me, Adella. I don't know if we can ever be together as mates, but I know I can live the rest of my life with all the cherished memories I made with you for the past few days.”
I didn't give him a reply, instead, I got out of the car, but when I was about to close the door, I bent down till I met his eyes. “We can make more beautiful memories in the future because I am not planning to leave you anytime soon.”
