Gamma’s Destined Mate.

Chapter 30

Gamma Jose Gomez - POV

I was at war with my mind and heart. The longer I stay in this pack, I feel like Adella has slowly crept into my senses as she has made her own place within my heart, almost replacing Elena, which was scaring the shit out of me. I have never been scared of anything before, but for the first time, I am afraid that I might emotionally shatter Adella, who is my mate, and Elena, who is my fiancee.

I was very strong in my decision to reject my mate the moment I found her, but I never thought that the mate bond would be this hard to resist. “Shit! What the hell do I do now?” I screamed within the confines of my car.

“I told you to tell Elena the truth a week ago, Jose. I don't think it is nice to lead her on in this way longer.” Carlos advised, and even though I knew what he was telling me was the best option, there was still this small fear lingering within me, which also awakened the memories that I desperately tried to forget.

“Do…don't do this, Jacob!” my mother’s broken voice filled the silent room. She was on the floor clutching onto my father’s leg while tears kept flowing down her cheeks. My heart was pounding against my chest while I felt my throat tighten. I had this urge to go to the living room and save my mother, but I just couldn't, since I remembered what my mother taught me.

Never come to save me when your father is hitting me, Jose. Your first priority should be your sister.

“Don't you fucking get it, Maria! I hate you! I hate you from the bottom of my heart. And I will not be able to live like this longer!” my father growled and kicked her in the stomach. Despite my mother being one of the strong she-wolves in this pack, she didn't even lift a finger to defend herself.

“At least for the sake of our children, please stay, Jacod,” she begged in a desperate attempt to keep my father from leaving us forever, but he shook his head. This was a normal occurrence in my family for the past few months. Dad would always come home drunk and beat my mother till he passed out, but today, he was not drunk, which only increased my fear.

“I don't think I can do this anymore,” he mumbled.

“You know what would happen to me if you reject me, Jacob. Please, just don't do that.” my mother whimpered before she got up and sat down on the floor. “I am not telling you to not go. But please don't reject me.” she reasoned, but any sort of sympathy that my father had toward my mother was long gone.

“I know what the mate bond would do to me, Maria. If I don't reject you now, I will never be able to stop thinking about you,” he said before he spoke the cursed sentence that destroyed my mother’s, sister’s, and my life forever.

“Jacob!” my mom yelled in agony, but I knew it was over. There is no use in protesting now. When he was about to leave the house, I saw his eyes briefly move up to the staircase where I was hiding, holding my baby sister with me. I saw a flash of regret in his eyes before he left us all for good.

My eyes started to water just thinking about that memory, even though it's been a long time. After my dad left us, my mother was never the same, she had fallen into an incurable illness that eventually killed her. She never told us what went on between her and Dad, but when I saw what she suffered, my belief in a mate completely vanished. I mean, what is the use of such a bond if it just couldn't keep two mates together?

“We will not be like our father, Jose.” Carlos tried to explain, but I don't think I was in a state to listen to him right now.

I know I am not like my father, but all those passed scars have definitely made me lose hope in my mate bond. I soon arrived back in my pack, and instead of going to my house, I drove straight to Alpha Alonso’s office. I parked my car in the driveway and walked into the pack house. When I reached his office, I knocked on the door and waited till I heard his voice.

“Come in.” I pushed the door open and walked into the office. “Jose?” Dylan was shocked to see me here. “What are you doing in here?”

“I came here for the weekend. I believe Elena must have informed you about her visit this weekend?” I asked him, and he nodded his head.

“She did, but I didn't expect you to come here. I mean, you know what would happen if people saw you both together, right? We have not yet figured out a…”

“Calm down, Dylan. I came here to talk to you about that.” I interrupted him, which made him narrow his eyes at me.

“What are you talking about?”

“Why don't we talk about this over a glass of scotch?” I asked him, and he nodded his head. I quickly made us both a glass of scotch and went and took a seat in front of his desk.

“What is it?”

“I found my mate in that pack.” I began, and this made his eyes widen in surprise.

“Woah! So did you reject her already?” he asked me, and that's when I became silent. I didn't know what I should say. “Did you reject her or not, Jose?” Dylan repeated, and I finally looked him in the eye.

“No, and that is my problem,” I told him, which made him frown at me.

“You know this is only going to end up in a disaster, right?” he asked me, and I nodded my head before I let out an exhausted sigh.
