Chapter 27
Adella Arcos - POV
“Aren't you going to invite me inside?” he asked me with an arched eyebrow, and this made a blush appear on my face. I quickly stepped aside and let him pass by. “Where is Summer?” Jose asked me while I locked the door behind me and walked next to him.
“She is in the kitchen preparing dinner. Come, let's go and see.” I told him and dragged him into the kitchen. Summer turned around from the stove when she heard us enter, and her eyes slightly widened in surprise when she saw Jose.
“Well, you have finally found your way to my house,” she said sarcastically while I discreetly glared at her to not create a scene. Ever since I told her that Jose wanted some time to mark me as his, she has been suspicious of him.
“I was busy with all those training sessions,” he replied when his eyes turned around to meet mine. “But I did constantly text her,” he said, and I gave him a nervous smile before I intertwined my hand in his.
“You know how hectic it can get, Summer,” I told her, but she still didn't look convinced. “Anyway, would you please stay for dinner?” I asked Jose, and he hesitantly looked at Summer.
“I guess we can spend more time that way. You should stay, Jose.” Summer said, and he nodded his head.
“I will just show him the living room,” I announced before I led him outside. I walked to the living room and made him take a seat on the couch. “I will be right back,” I told him, and he nodded his head before I walked back into the kitchen. “Summer!” I exclaimed, which made her turn around to face me.
“I know why you are here, Adella,” she said in a nonchalant tone, which made me roll my eyes at her.
“He is trying to make some time to spend with me,” I told her, but she shook her head.
“I am starting to get suspicious, Adella. He is your God damn mate, and he should have been extremely worried about you last week. But no! Instead, he is more concerned about his job.” she started to rant while I constantly kept looking at the kitchen entrance.
“He is just tight on his schedule right now. But I know he will change soon.” I told her.
“I hope so, for your sake,” she said and returned to her sauce. I walked to the cabinet and started taking down the plates and arranging them on the table. As soon as I set the table, Summer began lying down everything that she cooked.
“Jose?” I called, which made him look up from his phone. “Dinner is ready,” I told him, and he got up from the couch, pocketed the phone, and walked to the kitchen with me. Once Summer was done serving everyone, we all sat down at the table and began our meal in silence.
“So, what happened to Beta Lanzo?” Summer began a casual conversation with Jose, but when I heard beta Lanzo’s name, I felt a cold shiver run down my spine. Even though it has been more than a week since that incident with him, I still have nightmares of that night.
“I believe it is not something that should be discussed with other pack members.” Jose began, and this made Summer raise her eyebrows in suspicion.
“Well, I did hear that the Alpha and a few of his most trusted warriors were the people who had gone to oversee Beta Lanzo’s departure.” Summer said, and Jose nodded his head. “But I also heard that you were in that little group as well.”
“You know the Alpha Ralph said that he will give out an official announcement about what happened, right?” Jose asked, and Summer nodded her head, and a small smile formed on her face.
“Well, curiosity killed the cat. Just tell us now, Gamma Gomez.” she urged him, and after a long pause, he nodded his head.
“I thought that Alpha Ralph would just banish beta Lanzo from this pack, but what happened there was really gruesome.” Jose began, and this made Summer lean a bit closer. “We walked to the edge of the pack border, and then Alpha Ralph commanded the warriors to tie him up to a tre…”
“A tree! So he is still inside this pack?” Summer asked, and this made my stomach churn.
“No, he was given thirty whip lashes to his back before he was thrown to the other side of the border,” Jose answered, and this made my hands turn cold, and all the blood drained from my face. So that was the punishment he got for trying to sexually harass someone.
“That is gruesome.” Summer said, and her face slightly turned green before she abruptly got up from the chair and ran to the nearest bathroom.
“You shouldn't have told that,” I told Jose, and he raised his hand in surrender.
“She wanted to hear it.” he defended himself, and I smiled at him before I got up and went to see what was going on in the bathroom.
Gamma Jose Gomez - POV
I felt a certain change in Summer because, throughout dinner, she had been kind of distant. “Here's your dessert.” Adella gave me a cup and I thanked her and took it from her hand. We were all now sitting in the living room. And Summer came in shortly with a bottle of wine.
“I don't think you are supposed to drink that,” Adella said.
“It's not for me, it's for my guest,” she said in a duh tone, and this made Adella narrow her eyes at Summer.
“Do…” Adella was interrupted when my phone rang, and I took it out and checked the caller ID. My eyes slightly widened in shock before I quickly plastered an emotionless expression on my face. I looked up from my phone screen to see both the women were busy in their talk.
“Excuse me,” I said and got up from my place.
