Chapter 17
Gamma Jose Gomez - POV
“Let's see,” he said before he walked passed me. My hands curled into fists while I had this strong urge to go and attack him, but I resisted. I hope this bastard doesn't go around and spread rumors.
Adella Arcos - POV
After that first date that Jose took me on the other day, I didn't see him around much, and it's been more than a week now. But I didn't want to disturb him either because I knew that he must be busy with his training.
Ping.
My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I took it out to see that I had got a message from him.
Are you free this Saturday - Jose
Yes - Adella
Shall we go on a hike? - Jose
Sure - Adella
Great, be ready by five a.m. Let's go to see the sunrise. - Jose
I had never seen a sunrise high up in the mountain, and this immediately evoked a sense of bliss and excitement within me. I walked back home, and when I was about to open my door, I noticed a letter slid under my door. I opened the door and picked it up to see that it was from the pack house. I tore it open.
Alpha Benjamin Ralph cordially invites all of you to join him at the Autumn ball that is being hosted by the Alpha at his residence on Sunday after six p.m.
Autumn ball is a tradition that has been followed in this pack for quite a long time, and only the reputed people in the pack are invited to join, which basically means omega and the lower ranks are not allowed to participate. And to know that this is going to be my first ball sends a feeling of dread and happiness to me.
After changing my clothes, I plopped down on my bed and called my best friend to share this news. After numerous rings, the call went straight to voice mail, which made me sit up on my bed. Why didn't she pick up the phone?
I tried calling her again, and she finally picked up on the last ring. “Hello?” she sounded exhausted.
“Are you okay, Summer?” I asked her, worried, and I heard a lot of shuffling in the background.
“Yeah, I just puked up all that I ate, but other than that, I am doing fine.”
“Haven't the morning sickness stopped yet?”
“No, but the doctor said that it should stop in a couple of days. But I don't care about this as long as I get to see my baby in a few months,” she said with so much excitement, and I nodded my head.
“Of course, anyway, did you receive the invitation for the autumn ball?” I asked her.
“Yes, and I bet you received your first invitation, too?” she asked me when a huge smile formed on my face.
“Yes, you have no idea how happy I am right now.”
“You deserve it, Ella. Anyway, when are you planning to go dress shopping?” she asked me, and I fell back on my bed and looked up at my ceiling in concentration.
“I haven't thought about that yet. But will you be free tomorrow?” I asked her.
“Yes, I will be at home tomorrow. So, why don't you come to my place tomorrow, and we can go from there?”
“Sure, I will see you tomorrow then?”
“Okay,” she said before the line was disconnected.
Knock knock.
Who can that be now? I got up from my bed and made my way to the door. When I opened it, there was no one around except for an envelope that was placed on my carpet. I took it and went back inside and locked the door behind me.
There was nothing written on the envelope, and when I opened it, there was only a single white sheet of paper inside.
I know what you don't. The life you are living now is only a fantasy.
Those sentences were neatly printed on block letters. But something felt off. Who could this be? Did Beta Lanzo leave this in here, or was it delivered here by mistake?
“Why do you look like you have seen a ghost?” Summer asked me when she opened the door. I only smiled at her and walked into her house.
“I received this letter yesterday, and it has been bothering me.”
“What was in that letter?” she asked me with a confused look on her face, and I showed her what was written on it. She read it twice before she started laughing. “You are worried about this? It must be some sort of a prank,” she said, placing her hand around my shoulder and pulling me inside.
“I have got something like this a few years ago. Some high school students left it on my porch.”
“So, it is nothing serious?” I asked her, and she shook her head, she walked into the living room and came back with her handbag and car keys.
“Shall we go?” she asked me, and I nodded my head before we left her house. Summer drove us to the small boutique that she always visits. After parking the car, we walked into the boutique.
“Welcome again, Mrs. Quinn.” a woman came and greeted us.
“Hi, any new collections today?”
“What are you looking for, ma'am?” the salesgirl asked Summer.
“I am looking for an evening gown for the upcoming ball,” Summer told her, and she nodded her head and led us deeper into the store.
“Shall I select for you or?”
“I guess your selection would be the best. I want an evening gown for me and my friend here,” she said, and the salesgirl nodded her before she started browsing through the arrays of beautiful dresses. She came back after ten minutes with a rack full of dresses.
“You go ahead and try first.” Summer said before she went and took a seat on the sofa. I looked around before I took three dresses and went into the changing room.
