Chapter Criminals (1)
The shower had really done me good. Even though the presence of Oak had calmed me last night, I still had bouts of being awake and brooding over everything.
I did feel nice to wake up in my own apartment. It also was amazing I had convinced Oak this was a good idea. This way, I could dive into those hidden books about Faerie without any watchers.
Ethan, hang on. I will make it to you. I just need time.
I could not believe we had found all six of my mates in under a year. I needed to do some research but I assume this was one of those serendipitous things that not many Rainers have ever experienced.
Toweling my hair, already in my loungewear. Grey joggers and a white crop top on, I entered my living room and yelled for my life since Dominic was leaning on my kitchen counter and was eating one of my cream cheese bagels with a devious smile on his handsome face.
‘What the fuck! How did you even get in here?’ I yelled. But then I realized he had left his goons outside this apartment last night, so Andrew didn’t have to stay. They were already butting heads so much it was giving me a migraine and it had been two seconds since they had known they were stuck for life. In essence.
‘Well, I’ve got some skills.’
‘Yeah, at being criminal.’ I snorted.
‘Bagel?’ he pointed his half eaten bagel at me. ‘The big man really knows what’s good.’ He should really start an Oak fan club right about now.
I snorted. ‘What are you doing here?’
‘Seeing my mate.’
I glanced at his tatted hands and saw his wedding ring was already gone.
‘You work quickly. How did they take it?’
‘Lots of crying.’ He waved it off like it was nothing and snickered like it was funny as well.
‘You are a dick.’ I reached for the orange juice and poured myself a drink. Feeling some wet drops form my hair slip down my back. I had dropped the towel in surprise earlier. My Telvice ringed. Dosch was standing right next to it on the kitchen counter. He glanced to me and said. ‘Let me guess, it’s either the brood, the goofball or the Widowmaker.’ He glanced down. ‘Widowmaker. Called it.’
‘Don’t call him that.’
‘It’s his official bad guy name, bunny pants. That’s not up to me to change.’
I rolled my eyes and walked to my Telvice. Which brought me awfully close to him. He just stared at me while I stared at the screen. I was not answering. Nope.
‘Still angry, huh.’ He took another big bite. Cream cheese now hanging on his lower lip. ‘I was as surprised as you when he stepped forward. I don’t know what the stars thought when they brought the seven of us together in the same bond.’ He now ate the last of the bagel and swallowed before continuing. ‘But… we are some scary motherfuckers. Are they preparing us for a war someday or something. Giving us the opportunity for powers?’ he was now babbling and I stopped him with a hand against his chest.
‘It will never happen Dosch.’ I knew he was wanting the powers that came with the bond. That would only make him ten times stronger and would give him the advantage over all other crime lords in Rivellin, perhaps the world.
I made myself no illusions, yes I believed that in his own twisted way he loved me, but he was also claiming me to become more powerful. It was the cold harsh truth.
I continued. ‘We have Andrew with that star oath. It can’t be broken.’
I walked to my white couch and sat down on the farthest side. He joined me and sat down right next to me his knee touching mine. ’Well, it can be done actually.
My eyes widened. I had never heard or read anything about that.
‘How?’
