Chapter Catch
Asher
I watched the fishing rod bop up and down in the water. I had caught something. I got a sideways glance from Oak who reeled his catch in slowly. Like he already knew he was going to be able to grab it without any effort.
Cocky bastard.
‘You need to actually do something for the fish to land in your cooler, Asher.’ My brother said. He was still a little bit angry with me about the helicar accident I had with Lux last weekend. It hadn’t been my fault but her getting hurt on my watch was something I had beaten myself up over all week. I didn’t need his added animosity.
Oak had been convinced it was caused by another explosive fight between the two of us that day. We did fight. It had been bad again. Yet, I would never lose my focus just because of something like that. I would never risk hurting her. Fuck, everything I’ve done in these last few months has been to keep her safe and sound.
I sighed and started reeling the thing in. it was probably some debris like last time. I hated fishing. I hated everything about today. All I wanted was her, yet I needed to be strong.
‘I think someone tried to run us off the road.’ I sighed. It was the only explanation for the sudden surge of the helicar. I had seen no one, but we all know in this world magic still exists. The Fae still exist.
‘You didn’t see anybody, Asher.’ He didn’t believe me.
I had to watch him dote over Lux in these last few months and all I could do about it was watch. He was living the life I wanted and I was not sure I could ever have it.
‘I didn’t hurt her, Oak.’ I grunted. I was sick and tired of this. It would be entirely impossible for me to actually hurt her.
‘Didn’t you?’ he replied.
