Frozen Fire(Mxm)[UNEDITED]

Chapter 6

Gunner POV

I watched as Solveig grunted and clutched his chest out of pain. If my memory served me correct.. this was the first time I ever hit him with one of my fire balls.

He was always so skilled and fast, that no one could touch him at all. Today, however..he seemed distracted enough to not see it coming.

I walked over and helped him up. The wound was almost completely healed by the time he stood up. He brushed off the excess dirt and stood in a fighting stance.

"Again" he said as he prepared to block my attack.

"Are you okay? You seem out of it today"

"I didn't get much sleep last night. I have a lot in my mind" he said as conjured a fire ball and threw it my way. I immediately blocked it and realized that, he didn't even throw it with much force.

"Let's take a break" I said, motioning him to sit down with me. When he did, I looked at him and noticed he had dark circles beneath his eyes and he seemed to be staring into space as he kept thinking about something.

"Care to share your thoughts " I said as I laid down on the grass and took in the summer air. When he didn't say anything, I looked up and saw that he seemed to be having an internal battle on whether to tell me or not. Before he decided to bottle it up again, like he did all the time, I spoke .

"Sometimes telling someone else , makes it seem a bit lighter.. so talk to me" .. he looked away for a brief second before looking back at me, in the eyes and said...

"I didn't feel anything"

I narrowed my eyes in attempt to understand what he was saying, though I didn't have to think long, since he elaborated on it himself..

"I didn't feel anything when she held my hand and I didn't feel anything when I kissed her either" he said as he played with a strand of grass and avoided my gaze.

"You kissed her?? Why?"

"I thought it would make me feel something."

"It's understandable.. you can't beat yourself up over one meeting. This was practically the first time you said more than five words to a girl, three of them being 'leave me alone'.. it'll take time.. just let it happen naturally " I said as I placed my hand on his shoulder.

"But I was supposed to at least feel something. Even an ounce of something. But I felt nothing. It's like I was dead" he said finally looking at me before he turned away and muttered...

"Maybe this is my punishment "

"What do you mean?"

"This is my punishment for all the lives I've taken. I took them thinking there would be no repercussions.

But I was wrong. Life has to be balanced out. I took something for them and now something has been taken from me. Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny "

The more he spoke, the more confused I became. He made no sense, but once again, something that happened naturally, here he was blaming himself yet again.

"I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say"

"He who fights monsters should be careful, lest he thereby becomes a monster. That's what I've become. How did I expect it to turn out otherwise? I've lost all ability to feel anything else beyond hatred and anger "

Just hearing him made my heart break. I wanted so much, to help my brother who was always there for me. But in this moment of time, I had no idea on what to do to help him.

I desperately searched my brain for anything that could help him now .. and one thing stuck out...

"Sing to me"

He turned his head towards me and looked at me as though I was crazier than a soup sandwich..which by the way.. was the pinnacle of crazy!! Once the chef made it as punishment for my younger brothers and I, and we were sick for almost a week!!

"You always sang to me when we were kids." I said with the most pathetic look I could muster.. hoping to gain some of his sympathy..

"Operative word....'kids' " he said.

"Come on.. just a little bit. It'll help you relax" I said as I laid my head in his lap and closed my eyes.

As I laid , I felt him slowly relax and take a breathe as he began to sing to me. He ran his fingers through my hair as his voice flowed, matching the wind.

He sounded so much like our mother. His voice was pure and solid. Like a rare gem, yet filled with so much pain. He was so young yet, he carried the weight of the entire kingdom on his shoulders.

His voice was truly , more precious than any gold, I savored every single note as he sang the very song I had taught him..

And if the night is burning

I will cover my eyes

For if the dark returns then

My brothers will die

And as the sky's falling down

It crashed into this lonely town

And with that shadow upon the ground

I hear my people screaming out

Now I see fire, inside the mountain

I see fire, burning the trees

And I see fire, hollowing souls

And I see fire, blood in the breeze

I see fire, oh you know I saw a city burning

And I see fire, feel the heat upon my skin

And I see fire

And I see fire

I must have fallen asleep and so did he ,because I was awoken by the sound of my mother's handmaiden waking me up.

I slowly opened my eyes and when I saw the worried expression on her face, I jolted up.

"How is my mother?"

"You should wake your brother ,my prince and go see your mother immediately...it's time" she said and walked away..

Leaving me speechless...
