Recap
Summer’s POV
“No. No. No! Not my family,” I screamed as I sank to my knees, crying as if I had really lost them. It was easy to act when this could have been what my children looked like. I pounded the ground with my fist and screamed one last time before Ander was on me.
“No!” My mates screamed as they tried to get Ander off me. Ander turned and attacked my mates next. It was a terrifying scene, one I prayed I would never see again. It made my heart hurt, causing me to grab at my chest, tears streaming down my face as my real mates rubbed my back.
“Well,” the Bruja said as she walked towards Ander. “You did very well, little wolf. Very bloody.” She kicked at my son’s doubles head, making a sickening thump.
The Bruja looked around again. “Now, I need you to go get your brothers and your twin, it’s time to take out the trash. I want to be on my throne by this afternoon.” The Bruja clicked her fingers together, catching the attention of her skinwalker hoard. Every one of the skinwalkers stood at attention, their eyes watching for their next orders.
Clicking noises?
I took in a breath of air and remembered where I had heard the same noises. She was using clicking signals to get them going. She didn’t want anyone around her knowing what they meant. Too bad I was present the day I heard them or I would have been clueless. I raised an eyebrow at my mates as they nodded, letting me know they heard it too.
“Now!” I heard Kat scream loud enough to wake the dead, making me jump from her close proximity to me and our family. I shook my head a few times and looked at her with a look of ‘what the hell’? She shrugged and exploded into action.
I wish I could have watched her fight but I had a Bruja to kill. I nodded to Sonny and teleported over to the bitch. We stalked her until more skinwalkers came flowing out behind her. We all went invisible and stayed with the Bruja as she moved into the woods, ones we knew from visiting Alpha Black’s father one time. She wasn’t getting away from us, not this time.
My mates moved to flank her and I moved behind her. The Bruja’s heart was beating erratically as if she knew she was soon to be dead. She was sweating as if she was running a fever and I could hear her pants from her panicked breathing. She was not getting away from us again and I was fucking happy to see her panic.
My mates and I showed ourselves, causing the Bruja to jump and try to back up more. “You didn’t think we forgot about you, did you, bitch?” I asked calmly as I narrowed my eyes and walked closer to her.
“You’re dead! I saw your son kill you! Why aren’t you dead?” She yelled as she panicked even more.
“Tsk, tsk. You should have known better than to mess with our family. We are the Moon Goddess’ children and grandchildren. And, you are toast,” I informed her as I walked closer and smirked. “Didn’t know that little nugget of info, did you?”
“What? There’s’ no way in hell you are the Moon Goddess’ daughter. You’re a liar!” She screamed as she kept backing up, shaking her no emphatically.
I smirked at her, letting her believe what she wanted to. I didn’t care if she believed me or not. I knew I had shaken her up a little with my true words. I didn’t care and looked as if she did. Her face went pale, her eyes wide, her mouth agape. Not a pretty look on her.
“Uh, Summer, she’s never been pretty,” Athena, my wolf, told me as she chuckled.
“No shit?” I answered her back sarcastically.
I stopped as soon as the Bruja stopped moving. “You’re not lying, are you?”
I clapped my hands. “Ding, ding, ding, give the hag a cookie,” I answered as I smirked at her and walked closer, my hands behind my back. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do to her but I knew she needed to be gone and soon, I was getting hungry.
Ooh, hungry.
I teleported all of us some protein bars. And, I mean all of us, the Bruja included. As I munched on my second energy bar by the time the old bat looked up at me with a ‘what is this for’ look.
“It’s food, you know the kind you put in your mouth and chew?” I sarcastically sang out as she stared at me. “It’s rude to stare, too.”
“I wasn’t staring,” she lied. “I was trying to see if you looked like your mom. You don’t.”
I shrugged my shoulders. “I had earthly parents, too.”
I rolled my eyes and moved forward some more. I was tired of talking to her and it felt as if she was stalling for time or someone. I knew she wouldn't fight fair, they never do. It was a given, if you were evil you fought dirty. I always hated dirty fighters, well, sometimes. It was nice to be able to fight dirty and keep up with my practices. But, this hag would fight the dirtiest. I knew she would.
“Waiting on someone?” I asked as I looked around me, feeling the environment around me. I didn’t know these woods and hadn’t had a chance to map them out.
It wasn’t like home where I knew if anyone stepped foot on our territory. There were too many people here to differentiate.
I heard a gunshot and ducked, but I knew if I could hear the sound that it would be too late to duck. Old habits are hard to lose. I felt pain in my lower abdomen, the pain I have didn't feel at first. I looked at my mates and checked them over but their eyes were on me, tears were running down Zane's face, an indescribable look of pain was on Blaine's face. I looked down and gasped. I had been shot in the abdomen and it was silver, not that the silver bothered me but the gunshot hurt like hell.
I felt myself falling to the ground. “Get her!” I yelled to anyone who could hear me. I felt my mate's arms around me. I knew they were trying to heal me but something wasn’t right. My head spun and I couldn’t focus on anything. I tried talking, my mouth opening and closing, but nothing was coming out.
I heard fighting but I couldn’t pinpoint what was going on. I heard screeches and thuds but that was it. I didn’t want to be held, I wanted to fight. I wanted to help wipe them clean off the face of this world, but nope, I was slowly losing conscience.
“Take her home and have the doc look at her, but tell him to take her blood first,” was the last thing I heard Blaine order, knowing I wasn't going to get to fight.
Damnit!
