Chapter 30 Epilogue
Four Months Later…
Skye
Skye rushes into the bathroom and vomits into the toilet for the third time today. “Skye?” Charlotte calls out, “Are you okay?”
“I’m f…fine!” Skye answers, before sticking her head back into the toilet.
Charlotte appears with Silas and Celeste in her arms. “Are you sure? This is the third time this has happened today.”
“I’m s…sure. I p…probably a…ate s…something I’m n…not s…supposed t…to.”
“Really? Skylar, when was the last time you had your period?”
Skye pales. “W…what d…day is i…it today?”
“The 15th.”
Skye begins to count back in her head. “Skye,” Winter says softly, “Skylar…”
“Not now Winter!” Skye answers, anxiously.
“Skylar, we’re pregnant…”
She pales even more. “N…no, t…that’s n…not p…possible!”
“What do you mean it’s not possible? We’ve had sex with mate.”
“Skye?” Charlotte interrupts her conversation with her wolf, “Are you okay? You look quite pale.”
“I n…need a p…pr…pregnancy t…test!” Skye cries out, hysterically.
Charlotte leaves the room, returning a few minutes later with a pregnancy test in hand. She waits outside the bathroom for Skye to come out again.
Skye pees on the pregnancy test and then waits anxiously for the results. Her timer finally goes off after what seems like eternity. She picks the test up and looks at it, positive. “N…no, I c…can’t b…be!” she whispers. She drops the test and it hits the ground with a clatter.
Charlotte comes back in when she hears something hit the ground. “Skye, what’s it say?”
“P….positive,” Skye whispers, “i…it’s p…positive.”
Charlotte looks happily at her. “I get another grandbaby!”
“C…Charlotte!”
“Skye, what’s wrong? Why are you upset?”
“S…Sebby, w…what w…will S…Sebby s…say?”
“Oh, believe me, he’ll be thrilled.”
She whimpers. “B…but w…we haven’t m…marked e…each o…other y…yet!”
“That’s okay, sweetheart. That’s not necessary for you to have a baby together.”
“I n…need….I n…need…” She doesn’t finish her sentence, unsure of what she needs.
“Skylar?” Mom?” Sebastian’s voice can be heard from downstairs, “Where are you guys?”
Skye looks at Charlotte and shakes her head. Charlotte leaves the room, “Sebastian, we’re upstairs!”
Sebastian
Sebastian comes upstairs. “Where’s Skye?”
“She’s in the bathroom.”
Sebastian walks through the bedroom and into the bathroom. “Skylar?”
Skye jolts forward, startled by him. “S…S…Sebby?” she asks, “W…what a…are y…you d…doing h…here?”
“I missed you.” He walks over to her and tries to hug her, but she pulls away. “Skylar, what’s going on? You’re acting weird.”
“N…nothing!”
“Skylar…”
“I…it’s n…nothing! I h…have t…to…h…have t…to g…go d…do s….s…something!” She rushes out of the room with the pregnancy test hidden in her hand.
“Mom?” Sebastian calls out, “Could you come here?”
Charlotte comes into the room. “What is it, Sebastian?”
“Skye’s acting weird,” he answers, “Do you know why?”
“Yes, but that’s a conversation that needs to happen with her. It’s not my news to share.”
He sighs. “I need to go find her.” He walks downstairs again, eventually finding Skye talking and showing something to Alice. “Skylar, what are you doing?”
Skye jumps, startled by him again. “N…nothing!” she exclaims, hiding what she’d been showing Alice behind her back.
“Skye, what are you hiding?”
“N…nothing! I’m n…not h…hiding a…anything!”
He gives her an annoyed look before striding over to her and gently yanking her hand from behind her back. He isn’t sure what she’s holding at first. She begins to shake violently, dropping the object on the floor. He bends over and picks it up before she can.
“Skye, is…is this what I think it is?”
“N…no!” she mumbles, refusing to look at him.
“Skylar, tell me the truth! Is this a pregnancy test?”
She looks like she might start crying. “N…no, n…no!” She shakes her head and runs away from him again.
Alice punches him hard. “Alpha, with all due respect. That was not the way to handle that.”
“How the hell else would I have handled it? She wasn’t going to tell me herself!”
“Because she’s scared! For goodness sake, alpha! Must I remind you of how you reacted to her last pregnancy? You think she’d think you’d react to this one well after that?”
He freezes, the realization hitting him hard. “I…I need to go fix this!” He runs after Skye. By the time he catches up to her she’s locked herself in their room. “Skye,” he says, “please let me in. I’m sorry, I yelled. I’m not angry with you. I was just surprised.”
There’s a soft clicking noise and the door opens. Skye stands in the entryway of the room. “Y…you p…promise y…you a…aren’t a…angry?” she asks.
“Are you kidding me? I’m thrilled!” He lifts her up and spins her around.
“S…Sebby, d…dizzy!”
He sets her down and she nearly falls over. “Sorry, I got excited.”
“Y…you’re h…happy?”
“Yes, I’m happy.”
“B…but w…we h…haven’t m…marked e…each o…other y…yet.”
“That doesn’t matter to me. We’ll mark each other eventually.”
“W…we aren’t m…married.”
“That doesn’t matter to me either. I’ll marry you when you’re ready and only then.”
Tears quietly fall down her face as she hugs him. “I love you, S…Sebby.”
“I love you too, Skye.”
