Chapter 4 Marino Grant
Hearing a noise outside the door, Marino said from inside the room, “Dawn, is that you?”
“Yes, have you rested, Grandpa?” Dawn’s attitude became extremely respectful.
“No. Come in.”
Dawn pushed open the door and walked in with Skye.
Sitting on the sofa, Marino watched as Dawn and Skye held hands, a relieved smile lighting up his face.
Arranging a marriage for Dawn had been a last resort. Marino had been diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer and had at most six months to live.
He wanted to see his only grandson get married and have children while he was still alive, fulfilling his one remaining wish.
At first, he worried that it would compromise his grandson’s happiness. However, now that he saw Skye in person, he thought she looked even more beautiful than in the pictures. Her temperament was gentle and pleasing, suitable to be part of the family. Standing next to Dawn, they appeared like a

Thoughts of Dawn’s ex–girlfriend, Jill Laird, crossed Marino’s mind, sparking a sense of concern.
Based on what Marino knew about his own grandson, Dawn wouldn’t be interested in a girl like Skye, who was quiet and introverted, gentle and reserved.
Because of Dawn’s stable and rule–following nature, he preferred a lively and extroverted girl who could bring some energy and joy into his life, just like Jill Laird in the past.
The fact that Dawn agreed to marry Skye, whose personality was completely different from Jill’s, made Marino think that Dawn had given up on love entirely.
It was the biggest concern for Marino.
“Skye, right?” Marino beckoned.
Skye walked over and politely said, “Grandpa.”
Marino handed her a check for one hundred thousand dollars. “This is my gift. Hope that you both will respect and love each other.”
Skye accepted the lifesaving check, feeling a sudden twinge of guilt.

“Thank you, Grandpa,” Dawn thanked on Skye’s behalf.

Skye felt even more awkward and hurriedly added, “Thank you, Grandpa. Please, rest assured. We’ll look after each other.”
Marino nodded in satisfaction and then looked at Dawn.
Dawn grasped Marino’s intention, realizing he wanted a
commitment from him as well.
Dawn hesitated, remaining silent for a while.
Skye looked at him and caught a glimpse of the conflict and struggle on his face.
Following a lengthy silence, Dawn eventually responded, “Grandpa, rest assured. I will take responsibility for her.”
Dawn used “responsibility” instead of an endearing term, making it sound like he was succumbing to pressure.
Anyway, with Dawn’s promise, Marino felt slightly relieved.
The two of them returned to their own room.
The room was simple yet elegant. There was a solid wood king–size bed, a bright and clean balcony, and even a walk–in

The bedding on the bed looked new, like a recently purchased double duvet, still unopened in its packaging.
Skye knew from the brand that it must be expensive, costing at least one thousand for a set.
Did Dawn always live such a luxurious lifestyle?
While pondering, Skye saw Dawn handing her a document with the title “Pre–nuptial Agreement.”
Skye was momentarily stunned, taking the agreement from Dawn, not knowing what Dawn meant by it.
Dawn gestured for Skye to sit on the bed and pointed out the important clauses of the agreement.
“Grandpa gave you a check for one hundred thousand dollars. Additionally, I will transfer another one hundred thousand dollars into your account before the end of this week.
“And there’s something else I need to tell you. Grandpa has been diagnosed with cancer and only has six months left. I want him to be happy in these six months, so I need your cooperation.”
Skye looked at Dawn, who then pointed at one clause in the

agreement. “During the marriage, physical intimacy is not required. In public, Dawn Grant and Skye Hurley will act like a loving couple, which may require intimate physical contact.”
“And this one,” Dawn pointed to the final clause. “After six months, Dawn Grant and Skye Hurley will agree to divorce, with “the spousal gift” serving as the female party’s financial compensation.”
So he was actually buying her for six months with one hundred thousand dollars?
Skye was somewhat surprised.
And it meant that she would regain her freedom after six months.
As Skye couldn’t contain her joy, Dawn suddenly grew serious.
He added another sentence to the agreement. “Before finalizing the divorce procedures, the female party must fully repay the owed one hundred thousand dollars to the male party. Otherwise, the marriage will remain valid until the debt is cleared.”
Was he afraid that she would default on the payment?
He really was meticulous in his actions, living up to the style of a nerdy guy.

“Take a careful look at the agreement, and if you have no issues, you can sign it.” Dawn handed her a pen.
Skye skimmed through the agreement, with Dawn pointing out the key points. It mainly specified that pre–marital and post–marital assets belonged to each individual.
She had initially thought they would split expenses equally, but to her surprise, the agreement clearly stated that all post- marriage expenses would be covered by the male party, with no financial burden on the female party.
Skye happily signed her name.
A visible sense of relief washed over Dawn, prompting him to carefully stow away the agreement.
At that moment, Penny entered the room, carrying Skye’s suitcase. She mentioned that Marino had hurt his back when he stood up and asked Dawn to go check on Marino.
Dawn and Skye quickly went to Marino’s room.
They saw Marino leaning on the sofa, not daring to move.
“Grandpa, how do you feel now? I’ll call 911 right away,” Dawn said anxiously.
“Wait a moment,” Skye stepped forward and gently pressed

on Marino’s back, confirming that it was only a minor strain.
“It’s really late. I’ll give Grandpa a massage and apply some ointment. He’ll feel better in the morning,” Skye advised.
Dawn was somewhat skeptical.
Yet, with Marino insisting, Skye took out some medicated oil and started massaging Marino.
Soon, Marino’s pain eased significantly.
Dawn observed it and felt some relief.
After Skye finished the massage, Marino could move again, and he couldn’t stop praising Skye.
Marino was overjoyed, believing Sky was a treasure.
“Skye, you should quickly have a child with Dawn. If you’re
pregnant, I’ll give this villa to you. What do you think?” Marino proposed.
Dawn heard it when he was about to leave, and he almost choked on his own saliva.
“Grandpa, there’s no rush. You should rest early,” Dawn said.

The villa they were talking about was currently worth hundreds of million dollars, and the temptation was truly immense for anyone.
Dawn felt a headache çoming on.

Skye, on the other hand, remained calm. Since they would be divorcing in six months, she certainly wouldn’t have a child just for a villa and give birth to a child for a stranger.
The two of them returned to the room, and Dawn took out a card from his pocket and handed it to Skye.
“This is my payroll card. Take it. All household expenses will come from here, including Penny’s monthly salary of 1,800…”
“Wow, she’s so expensive,” Skye commented as she took the card.
“My aunt recommended Penny. She is capable and reliable.”
“So, does that mean I can make decisions about household matters in the future?”
“Of course, but for major issues, you need to consult with me.”

Dawn paused, realizing he hadn’t really thought about what qualified as major issues.
“Is changing to a cheaper household assistant considered a major issue?” Skye genuinely felt that the current one was too expensive.
“That’s not a major issue, but is 1,800 a high salary?” Dawn questioned.
“It’s basically one–third of your salary. Isn’t that high?” Skye looked at Dawn in surprise, sensing a difference in their perspectives.
Dawn furrowed his brow, struggling to find a response. He wanted to tell Skye that even one of his shirts costs more than 1,800.
“If you think it’s high, then feel free to make any changes,” Dawn said before grabbing some fresh clothes and heading into the bathroom.
