Unaware that Skye was behind her, Rainie continued to defame Skye.
“When Skye was in college, she had an affair with one of the male lecturers. I heard that even her graduation thesis was completed by that lecturer.”
“Well, the pretty girls can always get men to do anything for them,” the receptionist girls said sarcastically.
“She’s not pretty at all. That woman is totally a fox. And the only thing she has been good at is enticing men,” Rainie said.
“That’s her special ability. I heard her boyfriend is quite handsome. You know him too, right?”
“Hmph!” Rainie sounded somewhat smug. “Hugh is my boyfriend now.”
“When did that happen?” The receptionist girl became interested. “So, Skye got dumped?”
“Do you really find joy in my misfortune?” Skye suddenly spoke up, startling both of them.

“Oh, shoot! You scared me.” Rainie eyed Skye disdainfully.
“Rainie, instead of gossiping, why don’t you help Hugh submit more job applications? Relying solely on your salary, you won’t be able to support him.”
Although Rainie and Skye were schoolmates, Skye had become a financial manager while Rainie remained a mere cashier, which meant there was a significant difference in their salaries.
Yet Skye had to work three jobs and even distribute flyers during weekends, and sometimes a model. Hugh spent money extravagantly on games, luxury items, and bar nights.
Of course, Skye had no intention of kindly reminding Rainie about Hugh’s financial situation.
At that moment, Rainie thought she had hit the jackpot by stealing Hugh. She took Skye’s mocking words as envy.
With a contemptuous smile, Rainie said, “No need for your concern. Soleil Corporation has already notified Hugh about an interview. Have you heard of Soleil Corporation? It’s a big company, and they offer Hugh a monthly salary of ten thousand dollars.”
Rainie raised her chin in front of Skye. “Are you jealous? Envious, huh?”

“You’re really childish!” Skye ignored Rainie and made her way back to her own office.
Seeing a large pile of unprocessed financial documents on her desk, Skye asked her assistant,
“Isn’t this the cashier’s job? Why am I being assigned this?”
“Mr. David said Rainie hasn’t been feeling well these days and asked you to take over,” the assistant replied.
“Me to take over again?!” Skye was so frustrated that she slammed the folder on the desk, causing the papers to scatter all over the floor.
It wasn’t the first time. Skye had no idea that Rainie could be so manipulative. Now Skye realized how naïve she had been, trusting Rainie as her best friend and unknowingly inviting trouble into her life.
The entire day, Skye was busy to the point where she didn’t even have time for a sip of water, let alone eat.
When she returned home in the evening, she settled for some fast food.
Then she made a video call to Anna. Anna still didn’t know
about her cancer diagnosis, so Skye briefly mentioned Anna’s condition, advising Anna to listen to the doctor and focus on taking care of herself without worrying about money.

Anna, aware of Skye’s busy work schedule, tried to comfort Skye instead, telling her not to worry about her illness.
Several times, Skye wanted to tell Anna about her marriage, but the words stuck in her throat.
The next morning, Skye felt a bit feverish and achy, so she took sick leave.
By noon, she was feeling slightly better and started packing her things, preparing to move to Dawn’s place in the evening.
The thought of sharing a bed with a stranger made Skye inexplicably nervous.
In the evening, Skye grabbed a suitcase and her personal belongings and arrived at the address Dawn had sent her.
It was 88 Lohrey Street.
Lohrey Street was situated in an old residential area, with narrow streets crowded with bicycles and various items piled
- up.
Dragging her suitcase, Skye stumbled along the way, asking for directions but unable to find 88 Lohrey Street.
Gradually, she began to feel lost.

The further she walked, the more elegant and clean the surroundings became. The roads widened, and private garages came into view.
Where on earth was 88, Lohrey Street?
She asked several people, and they all pointed her deeper into the area. But even when she reached the end, she still
couldn’t find 88 Lohrey Street.
Skye had no choice but to call Dawn multiple times, but there
was no answer each time…
Eventually, he even turned his phone off.
Skye became anxious and frustrated, wondering what was wrong with Dawn.
He told her to move in, but he didn’t even pick her up or answer her call. And to make matters worse, she was lost and couldn’t find her way.
As dizziness overcame her, Skye found her way to the steps and sat down. After a while, a beam of bright car headlights illuminated her surroundings.
Skye looked up and saw Dawn stepping out of the car, silhouetted against the light.

She tried to get up but had been crouching for too long, causing her legs to feel numb. As soon as she stood up, stumbled forward.

Unexpectedly, there was no pain. Skye was caught by Dawn’s strong arms.
“Thank you,” Skye said, feeling embarrassed.
“Why didn’t you come in?” Dawn asked.
“I didn’t know which one was 88 Lohrey Street.”
“The person who called me tonight was you?” Dawn had been in a meeting with the executives, and his phone kept ringing. Hence, he turned it off.
“Yeah, why didn’t you answer the call?” A tinge of anger surged within Skye. Dawn made it look like he really had no idea of what had happened.
“Let’s go inside.” Without explaining himself, Dawn took out his key and walked toward the house opposite Skye.
Skye glanced at the obscured doorplate blocked by tree branches. Indeed, it was 88 Lohrey Street.
Dawn opened the door, and Penny Dale, a woman around fifty years old, came out.

“Penny, is my grandfather asleep?”
“Not yet. He insisted on waiting for you to come back.”
Dawn strode through the entrance without noticing Skye struggling to drag the suitcase behind her.
The steps were high, and Skye exerted all her strength but couldn’t even make it up a single step.
At that moment, the man reached out his large hand and took the suitcase from Skye’s hand.
Her heart was slightly touched.
According to Skye’s recollection, Hugh had never once offered to lend a helping hand.
During their last move, not once did Hugh lift a finger, leaving Skye to singlehandedly transport and carry seven or eight large boxes up the stairs.
And even then, Hugh complained that she was lazy, saying she just dumped everything upstairs without organizing it. Meanwhile, he only focused on playing games and asked her to order a takeaway.

Dawn’s displeased voice interrupted Skye’s thoughts.
She stepped forward and entered the door.
The yard wasn’t large but very tidy and clean, with various potted plants along the walls.
“Ah!” Skye suddenly exclaimed.
She had been so focused on looking around that she accidentally stepped on a cobblestone and nearly tripped.
Dawn turned around.
Skye awkwardly waved her hand. “I’m fine.”
Casting a quick glance at the cobblestone on the ground, Dawn strode over and kicked it aside.
The hand bore distinct knuckles and a faint callus, signs of regular physical activity.
Skye didn’t understand what was happening.
Dawn pursed his lips.
In the next moment, he took the initiative to hold Skye’s hand.

chest.
