Chapter 34
"Hold on." The captain put his hand up. "Do you expect us just to slice a vein and feed thirty or forty people our blood?"
"That many connections I don't need," Leone said.
"You know we don't have built-in taps in our bodies, right?" Quinton eyed Clairee.
Clairee waved her hand around. "I don't mean that." She glanced at Capri and then Aireese. "Your blood is the only thing we know cannot be duplicated, but it doesn't have to be ingested." "You lost me." Arius turned and looked at King Troy.
Tim rubbed his hand over his jaw and looked over at Bronx. His expression said he was just as clueless.
"Okay. Details." Em stood up. "We are not sipping on blood-" She glanced at the kings, "-royal or not."
"What she said." Karma nodded.
"Everyone settle down." Elder Arian put her hands on her hips and sighed. "We're going to make amulets with a drop of blood infused inside them. Each person that has a right to be here " She motioned around the room. "-in this building and the adjoining one." She smiled at Trendan. "Will have an amulet."
"I want Nova's done as well." Bastian nodded and looked at Aireese.
She inclined her head.
"Guess we can't do the whole block, huh?" Espy asked.
"Unfortunately, no." Capri looked over at the Gemini women, all sitting at one table. "There are too many businesses and people that live here."
"That sucks," Ava mumbled.
Aireese turned to Bastian and Trendan. "We're going to need to test Solrelm residents once we do this barrier."
Bastian gave Tor a quick side eye before looking back at her. "For what?"
"Because right now, if you are invisible, you can cross the barrier spell." Trendan's head snapped, so he was looking at Jerika. She smiled at him.
"We need to be sure you cannot do that with the new one."
Tor lifted his hand. "You think there might be more of ours helping?"
"We're not discounting anything," Aireese said.
"Shit." Trendan looked at Bastain. "I hadn't considered that. While we've been looking for someone near her watching them if they're from Solrelm and can go invisible..."
"They may be like me and have mixed DNA," Reagan spoke up.
"Because we needed things to be more complicated," Daxx mumbled. She looked at King Chase. "I have to go over and help Alona with furniture again. Someone fill me in on the outcome of this." Chase nodded. "She's getting very bored, my duchess."
Autumn chuckled. "Wait until the baby is born. There is no bored. Or sleep or sitting." She shrugged. "Totally worth it." She smiled at Michael.
Daxx waved her hand around and then vanished.

Tim looked over at Fauna. She had refused any help with healing the marks on her face. They weren't bad; he just wished them gone for her sake. He wouldn't want the reminder of what had happened. It had been thirty-six hours since it had happened. He hadn't slept, and until he knew she was safe, he likely wouldn't. She turned and looked at him. Her smile was barely a twitch of muscles, but it was still a smile.
"It will take us at least an hour to get this done, so if you could wait here, we'll be able to test it." Clairee looked around the room. "You could wait outside. It's a little cramped down here."
"I'll go make some coffee." Flora stood up and then looked around. "Lots of it."
"I'll be in the garage." Ava stood up and then looked around at some of the guards. "Any of you ride? I'm working on bikes for the guards that go with us when we start searching for that anchor."
Felix, Bronx, Mac, and Woods raised their hands. Bronx looked over at him, so Tim raised his too.
"This is good news." Ava nodded. "I was afraid we'd have to teach some." She pointed to the captain. "These get paired with us when we go out."
Rafael looked over at Victor, who barely nodded. "I'll make sure they're on the list."
Ava didn't wait for any more words; she turned on her heel and went up the stairs leading into the house.
The captain looked around. "Go wait outside."
"Raf, you, Leone, and Michael go back with Clairee and Aireese." Troy smiled at them.
"Let me guess we're the blood donors." Leone sighed and then shrugged. "All right, let's go get this over with."
Michael went over to Autumn. "Stay here and take a break. I'll come back when I'm finished."
Autumn nodded. "I wouldn't mind looking around the area and seeing if anyone that shouldn't be here is hanging out."
He kissed the top of her head. "I'll be back shortly."
Em went over to the kings. "I've worked on a map with the grids, so we can ride to check areas." She looked over her shoulder at some of the other Gemini women. "So we don't have to port around constantly." "I'd like to see that." Troy motioned to the stairs.
Chase nodded. "Anything that makes it faster to find."
Tim watched some of the bodies go up the stairs outside, and some go into the house. He glanced at Mac. "I'm going upstairs."
"When were you going to tell all of us?"
Tim frowned.
Mac jerked his head in Fauna's direction as she followed Flora upstairs.
Tim blew out a breath. "When has there been time?"
"True enough." He slapped him on the shoulder. "If I were you, I'd take her home where I knew she'd be safe." He shrugged. "Which I know won't happen, but I don't know how you're doing it, without losing your mind." Tim rubbed the back of his neck. "One second at a time."
Mac grinned. "I get that. I'm going to go check out these bikes."
Tim nodded. "I'll be there in a minute." He turned and ducked under a low beam and went to the stairs to go inside. Mac's idea wasn't one he hadn't thought of. If he thought he could get permission from the captain, Daxx, and Fauna, he would have already taken her to his place. If anything else happened to her, he would end up killing someone the next time.
