Fire On Fire

Chapter Chapter Three- Wow, I can run?

I wasn't sure how long I ran for but it had gotten dark, fast, too fast. I think I lost him- IT. My mind was a haze, everything scattered, my heart racing, my lungs burning and my knees aching.

I bent over, panting , with my hands on my knees. I took in huge gulps of air and tried searching for a place to rest.

Eventually I decided. Agh, Fuck it.

I just ran through a forest being chased by some kind of feral beast for hours. If some pesky-ass bug wanted to take a bite, have at it.

I plopped down onto the grass and sighed. The relief of finally resting flooded through me like a glass of iced water. Water. I thought as I licked my dry lips. I really needed water right about now. I looked up at the stars that were glimmering all kinds of colors. It was strange. THIS was all strange. Nothing made sense anymore.

"What I do know is, whoever brought me through that mirror, needs to send me the frick back" I looked up at the shimmering sky once more, praying to whatever force that was out there to take me home.

I just wanted to go home. Sleep. Get under my covers, go back to doing my shitty job. At least I'd know that I was safe. Out here, wherever this was, nothing was safe. I was alone, cold, tired and good God very fricking hungry.

I bolted right up when I heard the sound of mental clanking together. I moved quickly and hid behind a tall dark tree.

Not any more monsters please.

At this point I'm about to just give up and call it a day.

I held my breath as I heard the approach of footsteps. Something was off. I stole a glance from behind the tree and my breath hitched. It was that man I saw from the side of the road earlier. This time though, I got a good look at him.

He still had the same steely gaze and armor, his hair was jet-black and he was tall, but muscular too. I saw the armor strain beneath his form as he moved.

His face was hard and his thick brows were drawn together. He was clearly focused. His lips were pulled into a grim line. I saw his sharp jaw work. I couldn't miss the long, harsh, jagged scar that ran across the left side of his face and over his eye.

Under the shimmering glow of the rainbow stars he looked beautiful. He looked...magical.

Ava what the hell. Focus. This man looks dangerous.

He seemed to have read my thoughts because he instantly turned to face me, or the tree I was hidden behind. I sucked in a breath as I felt his eyes stare through me. I was sure he shouldn't have been able to see me but I could feel his gaze. It was like he was looking right through me, right through my soul. My heart raced and blood rushed up to my ears. Something twisted at the pit of my belly. A divine feeling of warmth, fluttering around my belly. Was it fear...?

No... not fear...

Something else...
