Chapter Longing
"Okay! let's go over this again." Sam said pacing back and forth the room. They had been going over it for hours.
She continued to watch him pace the room, her head moving back and forth from left to right.
"So something happened to you..your pack I mean. And you took off? Or ran away?"
Bark
"And you have been on your own since then living a life of loneliness, without having the knowledge or ability to shift back to your human form." He concluded.
"Ugh yes." She sighed. "I mean.."
Bark
"Ok, so that explains your scent then. You see, when I first detected it, I knew it was another shifter but something was off. It was like your scent was almost humanless." He pondered.
He stopped pacing across the room and assumed a crouched position in front of her. He placed his hand on top of her head and then to her chin, giving her a gentle scratch.
"You've been like this a long time hu?" He said in a sad tone.
She whimpered at the question. He just looked at her with utter sympathy.
"We don't feel whole without our wolf, I can't even imagine it being the other way around." He said.
She looked to the floor.
"Well! there's only one thing to do! Nomad! If you accept my offer, I would like to help you find a way to resolve this. Shall we see if we can have you shift?"
Bark!
"Okay well first things first. I'm Sam." He smiled and held out his hand.
She placed her paw in his hand, and they shook.
"So it's Sam hu. Man this guy, put two and two together in no time! and if he can do that, maybe he can help me shift in no time aswell!" She was eager.
Unfortunately it wasn't as easy as they thought it would be. Aside from him having to return to work, she was left at home to wollow it alone....again.
Days turned into weeks, and it felt as though they were straying further and further away from the solution. They tried everything. From imagining her human form, to trying to scare her, to even trying some native rain dance in the backyard. It felt like every expense had been wasted. They were currently sitting in the living room trying another feeble attempt.
"I'm not going to lie. It would really help if we could talk." He said.
"I know." She rolled her eyes. "Will this ever work?" She thought to her self. One thing came out of her long stay, and that was getting to know Sam.
The longer she stayed with him, she noticed odd and interesting things about her new companion. Every morning, for example when he would get dressed, his socks had to be different for each foot. He didn't like matching socks. When it came to dishes, they could be laying around in places for days, or the place wasn't kept clean. However all his tools and hunting gear were all organized neatly and never out of place. If his keys weren't in the dish bowl by the door, he could never find them. It was the little things that nobody pays attention too that she noticed the most. He made sure to talk to her about anything and everything. And as the weeks turned into months, she slowly continued to lower her walls.
"Ahahahah Ok Ok. How bout this one. What kind of monkey can fly?" He asked. "A hot air baboon Ahahahaha"
"Ahahahahahahaha so stupid." Yet she chuckled.
Knock Knock
"Someone's at the door. Hold on!" He yelled.
Rosalie quickly stood up, and went into the kitchen to avoid being seen, as Sam went to the door.
"Sam! Ya old dog! We haven't seen you in so long man. What the hell's been going on? Paul said.
Paul let himself in and made his way to the living room.
"I'm not gonna lie I was getting a little worried there for a sec bud. You know, no calls or messages. Just anything really to let us know that your up to something" He said.
"Sorry buddy, I've just been really busy, that's all." Sam said.
"Cut the shit bro......who is she?" Asked Paul.
"What do you mean? who?" Sam asked confused.
"The chick your banging! Your telling me that the reason you haven't been seen out with anyone isn't because of a girl?" Paul was dumbfounded.
"Well, you see there kind of is this......girl. But it's not what you think!" Sam pressed.
"Wait!" Paul looked around the room and whispered. "Is she here?"
Sam huffed. "Well sort of."
"What!? Where?" Paul took off to see if he could find Sam's new chew toy. He looked in the coat closet. Nothing there.
"Oh woman of my man's heart. Come out and play! We won't bite." Paul said laughing. "She's in the kitchen isn't she?"
"Man don't go in there!" Pleaded Sam.
Paul peeked around the corner and made a grand entrance by jumping in the middle of the room. It wasn't too much later he saw the huge white stature sitting in the corner.
"Holy fucking hell!" Paul yelled. He quickly ran back to Sam and hid behind him. "Dude! What the........like....what the fuck is that?" He shuddered.
Sam scratched the back of his head. He did that whenever he was anxious. Another thing she noticed.
"So this is my...." He looked at her "....pet....wolf." He looked at Paul.
He was finally speechless. Paul didn't say a word, as he looked at the sheer size of it. He eventually looked at Sam.
"A wolf!" He slapped Sam on the arm. "Are you nuts!? What if it....e...eats you? I ..I don't know man, this isn't such a good idea."
"Paul, it's ok, she's actually fully domesticated." He looked at her and just mouthed I'm sorry.
"She is? So...so she's not going to eat you?" Paul sounded a bit more at ease. "Well, ok.......uh what's his name?" Paul asked.
"Well, it's a she........and her name is..." He looked at her stumped......"Wolfy...he said gritting his teeth." Again he just mouthed I'm sorry.
"Wow" She sighed rolling her eyes.
Rosalie was done looking at twiddle dee and twiddle dum, and made her way to the couch.
"So what are you dances with wolves or something?" Paul whispered.
Ironically enough....
"It's fine! It's fine nothing to worry about." Sam guided Paul back through the living room and to the front door. "Listen, I'll call ya when I have some time in the schedule, maybe we can hit up Solandros." Reassuring Paul, before shoving him out the door.
"Man! you call me on the regular! Dont die on me!" Paul yelled from the other side of the door.
Samuel looked at Rosalie resting on the couch.
"Sorry about that ahah. He's a real nice guy, just a little dramatic."
They just looked at each other while the ackwardness filled the room. As they gazed, the sound of raindrops could be heard hitting the steel roof. Sam walked towards the window.
"Hey wolfy........you wanna play?" I turned to her with a smile stretching from ear to ear.
He ran towards the back of the house and opened the door to the back yard. It was a heavy rain fall, so heavy that it churned his backyard into a mud pit.
"Com'on! don't tell me don't want to!" He yelled from the kitchen.
Sam took his shirt off and then started working on his pants. He stepped outside in his boxers and went out of view momentarily before returning to the door in his wolf form. Rosalie perked up and quickly joined him outside. They tussled with each other, and slid around the yard as if it was an ice rink. There was a couple times she was able to take him down, and as she watched him roll around in the mud, she thought to herself.
"Thank you Sam."
She felt overwhelmed with emotion, and couldn't put into words the feelings that she had experienced the last few months. While lost in thought she watched him.
Without a moments notice Sam ran from one side of the yard towards Rosalie for an epic take down. But his leg slipped from under him and ended up nose diving and slid to Rosalies feet.
"Ahahahaha you idiot!" She said.
"Hey! Who you calling an idiot." Sam yelled out.
"Ahahahahahahaha............wait....what?" She looked up to him.
