Chapter Brothers
Ash
We were both drinking his expensive red wine, on his couch. My girl was on a date with someone else.
‘Tell me something, brother.’ I needed to know. ‘What changed?’
Oak didn’t even bother asking me what I meant.
‘I see her now.’ He said solemnly. Sipping from his glass. ’She’s… not at all what I thought she was. My prejudices about humans now adjusted.’
‘Told you.’ I added.
‘She’s actually too good for you, you know that right.’
‘Oh, how the tides have turned.’ I remember vividly how he had scolded me for liking her all those months ago.
‘Don’t ever fuck with her like that ever again, you hear me.’ He was dead serious.
‘Well, I plan on fucking her again, if that’s what you’re asking.’
He growled at me. ‘Don’t use her, Asher.’
‘I love her, Oak. I love her. I won’t use her.’
‘Those are some big words.’
‘I can’t help it. I’m in love with this beautiful human girl who is eight years younger, drives me crazy sometimes, and can’t ever be my mate. But I do.’ I sighed deeply. ‘It’s like… sometimes when she walks in a room, I can’t even breathe. She takes it. I have never in my entire life felt like this.’
‘Brother, you seriously don’t know, do you?’
‘What don’t I know?’
He rolled up his sleeves until he showed me the nook under his armpit. There it was. Six small lines. Three in a thick black line, three in a small line.
‘What the fuck….’ I quickly looked at mine. It hadn’t been there last week. I’m sure of it.
‘But it wasn’t….’
‘There last week?’ he alluded to something.
’What are you saying? Human Lux is… my… our… but that can’t be.’
‘It is, brother. I can’t explain it, but it is.’
‘The three lines….’
‘Jax, Kai, Sebastian. You, me…. and one other.’
‘If it is the gangbanger I’m losing it.’
‘I’m afraid it might be.’
