Chapter 28 That Little Place of Heaven
Damon turned around just to realize the girl that Becca fed off was still there, looking at the scene with wide eyes. He stood in front of her, putting his hands over her shoulders, and looked into her eyes.
"Forget about all of these and go to the hospital. Tell them you went into the woods and you got attacked by some wild animals," Damon compelled her and Paige nodded her head obediently. Once Damon broke the eye contact, Paige turned around with her hands covering her bloody neck and went off.
Damon rubbed his forehead thinking of how to find and deal with his rebellious daughter. She surely did give him a terrible headache... and a lot of white hair, if he was a human and not a vampire. Damon sighed and sped off to the curb on the bottom of the clock tower, where Stefan waited for him.
Looking how furious Damon was, Stefan quickly remarked, "Damon, why don't you go home and cool off. I'll find her."
Damon seemed to consider his brother's offer for a moment before nodding his head in agreement. "I need a lot of bourbon before dealing with her," he stated.
"Still keeping your old habit?" Stefan raised his eyebrows.
Damon glanced at his brother. "When you have to deal with that girl, you'll know why I can't break the habit," he replied.
Stefan chuckled at Damon's grumble. "I'll bring her home," he said next.
Damon sighed. "Make sure she's safe," he remarked.
"I will. No worries," Stefan replied before speeding off to find Becca.
-----
Becca used her vampire speed and ran to the direction of the city line. She headed to the quarry, which was located just outside of Mystic Falls. She found that place just a few weeks back, before the whole committing-suicide-and-turning- into-a-vampire incident happened. It was like her little place of heaven, although she knew if Damon ever found out, he would kill her. Not literally, but still...
When Becca finally arrived at the quarry, she slowed her pace and strode to the cliff. The cliff was surrounded by huge, tall trees. Up from the cliff, she could see the most beautiful scenery she had ever seen. Becca closed her eyes, stretched out her hands, and inhaled profusely. The sound of water streamed down the cliff and splashed into the lake beneath was like music to her ears. She loved the sound and also the scent of it. It made her calmed and relaxed.
After a while, Becca strode to the nearest tree and sat under it. She rested her back on the hard wood of the tree, pulled her knees up to her chest, and stared into space. She was half hoping that she wouldn't have to go back to the house and face her Dad. She knew it would not end up well, especially for her poor backside. Becca knew running away from her Dad, like she just did, was the same as digging her own grave, but she wasn't thinking. She was terrified, so did what her first instinct told her: to run.
The sound of rustle from behind the trees interrupted her thoughts. She glanced at the direction of the sound and her body tensed up in anticipation. She felt her stomach dropped as she had a terrible déjà vu. She remembered that night when she ran away to the woods and got attacked by a werewolf. What if another werewolf attacks me now? she thought and chills ran down her spine.
Damon saved her that night, but she was alone now. Not even her dad knew where she was, let alone save her. She grasped a sharp-edged wooden stick that happened to be laid on the ground few inches away from her feet. She held it up and aimed it for whatever came after her.
Becca threw the stick to a figure as soon as she saw someone emerged from behind the trees. Then she realized it was Stefan, but she had already thrown the stick toward him. Stefan caught the stick swiftly in his hand before it could stab him right on the chest.
"Nice shot," Stefan said, "You could be a vampire hunter. If you're not a vampire yourself." He chuckled at his own joke. Becca relaxed a bit when she saw it was Stefan. "Uncle Stefan. Sorry, about the stick. I thought you were a werewolf."
"No. Just a vampire," Stefan answered with a smirk, clearly enjoying his own terrible joke.
"How did you even find me here?" Becca inquired.
"Luck, I guess. I had already searched for you in every place in Mystic Falls, but I didn't find you. So, I went here and was hoping you would be here because if you don't, then I don't know where else to go to find you." "My Dad sent you to find me, didn't he?" Becca asked, sitting back down under the tree.
Stefan approached her and sat next to her.
"No. Actually, I volunteered to find you. You Dad is worried about you, you know," Stefan replied.
"And also disappointed and quite angry," he added.
Becca huffed. "Yeah, I could tell. I'd say he's furious rather than angry," she countered.
"His rage would recede and he'll come around. He always does," Stefan told Becca.
Becca let out a sigh. "I hate disappointing him," she mumbled.
"Then why did you disobey him? You know better than to provoke him like that."
Becca shrugged her shoulders in response.
"Come on. You can tell me," Stefan coaxed.
"It's just... I want to experience something new with my new supernatural abilities, but he wouldn't let me. He's super overprotective," Becca pouted.
Stefan chuckled, making Becca's pout even deeper.
"Damon is just being Damon. He loves you. That's why he's super overprotective over you. Trust me, I know. I've known him for centuries," Stefan replied.
"I'm aware of that, but I just want to have some fun, you know. I mean, I'm a vampire now. I want to go out there and enjoy my abilities. Go hunt, get revenge, fight against werewolves and other mystical creatures out there. I want to do lots of exciting things that will pump my adrenaline. He just doesn't get it," Becca stated.
"I think he totally gets it, Becca. You and your dad are so much alike. I remember a few centuries back, he was exactly like you. He always found something dangerous to do and he thought those were exciting and thrilling," he replied and Becca smirked mischievously.
"I supposed he wants to protect you, so you don't put yourself in dangers, like he used to," Stefan explained.
"Yeah, I guess so," Becca shrugged her shoulders.
"I know so," Stefan said. "He cares, Becca. And when he cares about someone, he'd do anything to protect them."
"Even when I disappoint him?" Becca looked up at Stefan.
"He loves you. I know he doesn't always show it, but he does love you. He has his own way of showing his affection."
"Surely, he isn't like any other parents. But, he's special to me...," Becca admitted.

"As you were to him. Perhaps we should go home and you can tell him that yourself. I bet your Dad is worried," Stefan said next after a brief silence. He pushed himself up to his feet.
"Can't we just stay here? I don't want to face the wrath of my Dad," Becca whined.
"Then getting in deeper trouble than you already are?" Stefan replied, raising his eyebrows, "I don't think so, Becca. Sooner or later, you have to face him and I think it's better sooner than later. Besides, your Dad would kill me if I don't bring you home."
"Tell me about it," Becca rolled her eyes.
"Come on. Let's just get this over with," Stefan remarked. Becca flinched and let out a small whimper in response.
Stefan, who noticed the small whimper that came from his niece, sat back down next to Becca. "Are you okay?" he asked, looking concerned.
"Yeah. It's just...," Becca said, looking down at her hands. There was a brief silence before she continued.
"That's what my Dad always says every time he...," she trailed off.
"Every time he what?"
"Every time he's about to...," she murmured, unable to say the dreaded 's' word out loud.
"Spank you?" Stefan threw a wild guess.
Becca's face went red in embarrassment. "How'd you know?"
"Oh, please. We all know how Damon is. That's what he would do to deal with a troublemaker like yourself," Stefan replied.
"Hey!" Becca complained, jutting out her lips.
Stefan chuckled. "No, I'm just kidding. I hate to admit it, but he did it to me once and I have to say that it wasn't pleasant at all," he paused, "Who am I kidding?! It was horrible!"
Becca gazed at Stefan sympathetically and full of understanding. She knew what he felt whatsoever.
"Although it happened like a few centuries back, but I still remember it like it just happened yesterday," he told her. He shuddered a bit while remembering that event.
"Oh wow. He must've been hard on you," Becca commented.
"Yeah, but I'm sure he won't go too hard on you this time," Stefan remarked.
"I don't think so. He seemed furious the last time I saw him and I don't want to find out how hard the spanking he has planned to give me," Becca replied.
"It'll be over before you know it," Stefan said softly.

"How bad could it be anyway? You have vampire healing now. The pain won't last for too long," Stefan told her, sent her an encouraging smile.
Becca huffed. "It will still hurt," she said.
"It's the purpose of a spanking, now isn't it?" Stefan simply replied, making Becca groaned.
"Uncle Stefan, can you do me a favor?" Becca inquired after a brief silence.
Stefan looked at Becca suspiciously. "Uh-oh. Are you up to another mischief? You're not even done with this one yet," he joked.
Becca giggled. "No," she replied.
"Not right now, anyway," she mumbled to herself, but unfortunately Stefan heard her and raised his eyebrows.
"I was just going to ask you not to tell my Dad that you found me here."
"And why is that?"
Becca rolled her eyes. "Isn't it obvious? I'm officially dead if he knows I came here alone. And besides, this is kind of like my little place of heaven," she answered.
"I don't think I can do that, Becca."
"Oh, come on," Becca said, rolling her eyes once again.
"What am I supposed to say to him when he asks me where I find you?"
"Umm... At school?" she suggested.
Stefan looked at his niece with amusement in his eyes. How far this girl would go? he thought.
"He won't believe that," he countered.
"Please, Uncle Stefan. Can you at least try?" Becca pleaded, sending him a puppy eyes look.
Stefan couldn't resist the pleading look Becca gave him, so he said, "Fine, but don't blame me if you're getting in deeper trouble."
Becca grinned. She had a feeling Stefan would be her favorite uncle after all. Stefan just shook his head. This girl is definitely something, he thought.
