Fifteen with An Attitude

Chapter 25 The Aftermath

"James David Mikaelson is proven guilty for the impeachment of the sexual assault towards Rebecca May Salvatore. Considering he's a minor, he is sentenced to be suspended and will remain in detention center for 6 months, pay a $10,000 fines, and he may as well serve community service for a whole year. By this judgment, the case is closed," the judge declared his final judgment and struck the gavel against a sound block that placed on his desk. He got up and left the court

room.

Almost immediately after the judge left the room, two security guards walked over to James. One of them turned his body around, grabbed both of his hands on his back, and put a handcuff around his wrists. Then, they escorted him outside, to the car that would take her to the detention center. Klaus got up from his seat and approached Damon and Becca who were in the other side of the room.

"Damon, Rebecca," he greeted.

"Klaus," Damon greeted back, reached out and shook his hand.

"Thanks for doing this," Damon thanked him.

"No problem. It's time for him to learn the lesson. He is getting out of hand lately," Klaus said, letting out a sigh.

"Daddy, who is he?" Becca interrupted, looking at Klaus.

"He's James' father," Damon told her. Becca's eyes widened as she took a step backward.

Sensing the fear that Becca felt, Damon quickly added, "He's also my old friend. Don't worry. He won't hurt you, sweetie."

Klaus leaned down to be on Becca's eye level. He smiled at her.

"Hello, Rebecca. It's a pleasure to finally meeting you in person," Klaus said, reached out his hand for Becca to shake.

Becca looked at his hand for several seconds, then looked up at her Dad. Damon nodded his head as an encouragement. Becca finally reached her hand out as well and shook Klaus' hand. "Likewise, Mr. Mikaelson," she said and cringed when 'Mikaelson' word left her mouth.

"I apologize for what my son did to you and I assure you James won't be able to come near you in the future," Klaus stated.

"Thanks," Becca replied.

"You're welcome love," Klaus smiled. He then straightened up his body again.

"I gotta go. I still have a lot of things to take care of. Give my regards to Elena," Klaus told Damon.

Damon nodded and responded, "Will do."

"See you around Damon, Rebecca," Klaus nodded his head toward Damon and Becca, giving them a smile. Then he turned around and left.

"Come on, sweetie. We need to head home as well," Damon said, grabbing Becca's hand in his and walked to his car in the parking lot.

At school, the news spread faster than a blaze of fire. Becca got permission to stay home for several days after what happened at the court, just to let her compose herself. Becca went to the hospital to check her body up, even though she didn't want to. She told Damon that she felt fine and there was nothing unusual that she felt on her body, but Damon insisted with the reason of making sure she didn't get pregnant, STD, or any other disease. It turned out she didn't catch any disease and the doctor said there was nothing to worry about, at least physically.

Sarah and Kate checked on Becca occasionally to make sure she was okay. She was getting better, or so they thought, but actually she was getting worse. She kept having nightmares about that night. She felt like she was about to blow up with the mixed feelings she felt inside, but at the same time she felt empty and numb. She couldn't cope with her feelings, so she started to cut herself again behind closed doors. No one had noticed yet and she planned on keeping that way. She couldn't bear to face Damon if he found out about her cutting again.

She acted like she was getting better in front of everyone else, but when she was alone, she would cry her eyes out and cut herself until she had no energy left to do anything except lying down on her bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, the wall, or out the window.

Everything was even worse when she went back to school. She would hear people whispering and chattering about her here and there. Rumors were spreading everywhere. They started calling her names. Sl*t. That was her favorite, sarcastically speaking. She tried to ignore them and she tried so hard not to punch them in the face to make them shut their mouths up, but she couldn't hold back her rage when she overheard Paige and her friends were talking about her in the hallway several days later after she got back to school.

"I told you she's a sl*t!" Paige said.

"I know right! I can't believe they locked James up in juvie and let that sl*t get away with it," her friend commented.

"I'm pretty sure that was a set up. That b*tch had planned everything up. She made it like James was guilty, but actually it was the opposite. No way James would actually lay a finger on that sl*tty ugly b*tch. Let alone raped her. She was plotting it and fooled everyone," Paige continued with a clear disgust on her face.

Becca, who was just walked past them, stopped and turned around. She walked over to them.

"Hey, Paige. If you got something to say, say it to my face you wimp!" she exclaimed, loud enough for everyone around them to hear. Paige sent a glare at her.

Everyone else, who watched them went 'ooooooh'.

"What did you just call me?" Paige asked, daring Becca to say it again.

"A wimp," Becca repeated, smirking.

Everyone could see Paige was getting fed up of the insult. "You know what, b*tch? You want me to say it to your face, then I'll say it to your face. You're a manipulative, cruel, sneaky, b*tchy whore. James is just one of your victims. How could you do that to poor James?"

"Are you kidding? He raped me," Becca snarled, clenching her fists.

"You wish," Paige snorted, "Just admit it already. You planned out everything and you tricked everyone, so that everyone believes that James did it to you. Just because James is popular and you can't have him, it doesn't give you the right to victimize him like that."

Becca scoffed. "He was proven guilty in court. He did it to me and he deserves what he deserves. I suggest you to go find your brain, airhead," Becca commented, smirking.

Paige's face went red. "Oh no you didn't you sl*t," Paige snarled. She walked toward Becca and started to pull Becca's hair.

Becca, who didn't want to let Paige won, of course fought back. She pulled Paige's hair as well and Paige screeched in pain. Paige shoved Becca to the ground and landed a punch to her face, but missed because Becca swiftly avoided Paige's fist. She turned the position over, so now Becca was on the top of Paige. She was about to land a punch to her face, but she was stopped by a grab on her waist, pulling her off of Paige's body.

"That's enough!" Becca heard a familiar voice from the one who pulled her away from Paige.

Becca turned around and found no other than Alaric himself, who was glaring at her and Paige.

"The show's over! Get back to class!" He barked to the crowd of students who were encircled them and were watching the fight. They complied almost immediately and the crowd dispersed. "Except you two," Alaric added, gesturing to Paige and Becca.

"Explain what just happened," he demanded.

"Well, if you ask me. I was just chatting with my friends and she came out of nowhere and intervened. She said rude things to me. So, practically she started it," Paige stated, fiddling her hair with her fingers.

Becca scoffed. "Are you kidding? You were the one who started it. You said the things you shouldn't have said to me," she said.

"I didn't say it to you. I was chatting with my friends, not you. You shouldn't have eavesdropping, you big head," Paige started it again.

"You had spread false rumors about me to every person in this school. You said it behind my back. You should've said it to my face, you wimp," Becca fired back.

"Alright, that's enough you two!" Alaric barked.

"I don't care who started it. What I do care is you two just violated school policy about fighting and using violence in the school ground. Am I correct?" Alaric asked sternly.

"No one harm anyone. So, this is hardly called a fight," Becca sassed, crossing her arms over her chest.

Alaric furrowed his eyebrows. "This is not the right time to sass with me, Miss Salvatore," Alaric remarked and Becca rolled her eyes.

He sighed. "You can call yourself lucky because as much as I want to send you both to Principal's office, I can't because I stepped in right before anyone got hurt, so this is not a matter anymore. But if this ever happen again, I'll make sure both of you get suspended, so you better not repeating this again. Is that understood?" He stated sternly after a short pause.

"Yes, Mr. Saltzman," Paige answered.

"Sure," Becca mumbled.

"Good. Paige, you can go back to class. Rebecca, come with me," he said next.

Paige smiled smugly toward Becca, thinking that she would get in more trouble. Paige turned around and trudged to her class. Becca groaned in annoyance.

"Rebecca, are you coming or what?" Alaric asked as he realized she didn't move from her position.

Becca huffed and trailed Alaric to his classroom.

"What do you want with me, Alaric?" Becca asked Alaric while they're walking to his classroom.

Alaric stopped walking and turned around to face the defiant girl. "I told you to drop the attitude and the sass, didn't I?" he asked, crossing his arms and lifting his eyebrows.

"Yeah. So?" Becca retorted, crossing her arms as well.

Alaric stared at Becca for a few seconds. "You better lose the attitude unless you want a sore backside," Alaric stated simply.

They had a staring contest for a minute or so, but then Becca diverted her gaze. "Fine," she mumbled in defeat and Alaric nodded his head. He turned back around and continued walking to his classroom.

"Can you just at least tell me why I need to follow you?" Becca asked again.

"We have something serious to discuss," Alaric answered.

"You do realize you just gave me a lecture, right?"

"I'm aware of that. Nevertheless, I wanted to talk to you. I was about to call you to my classroom, but then I found you getting into that little fight with Paige," Alaric remarked, grabbing the door knob to his classroom and pushed it open. Alaric held the door open, so that Becca could step into the room. Then he stepped in himself afterwards.

"Take a seat," Alaric instructed and Becca obeyed quietly.

"What's going on, Becca?" he asked after a short silence. "Nothing," she answered, shrugging her shoulders.

"You need to stop concealing your feelings," Alaric stated.

"What do you mean with that?"

Alaric didn't answer. Instead, he diverted his gaze to Becca's sweater-covered arm. There was a noticeable blood stain on it. Becca quickly hid it.

"I'm fine, really," she remarked quickly.

"Is this because of what James did to you? Do you still have nightmares about it?" Alaric started to ask her questions.

Becca knew Alaric would be the one who could see through her. Yet, she shrugged her shoulders and left the questions unanswered.

"Let me see your arm," he said and Becca shook her head almost immediately. Of course she wouldn't do that because then Alaric would make a big deal out of it. He always did.

"Rebecca," Alaric said warningly, dedicating her with a stern gaze.

Becca huffed. She knew she didn't have any choice but to show her arm to him. She then hesitatingly rolled up the sleeve of her cream-colored sweater, exposing what was underneath. A small gasp escaped Alaric's mouth when he saw the new deeply cuts on her arm. Shock written all over his face.

"Why?" he asked, "I thought you are getting better."

"It's no big deal," Becca said, trying to assure him. She rolled back down the sleeve of her sweater.

"No big deal?! Have you seen your arm? It's not 'no big deal' Rebecca. This is a serious matter," Alaric told her in his serious tone.

Anger suddenly grew inside her. "Why do you and my parents always make a big deal out of everything? I'm fine!" she spat.

"You're definitely not fine. You need help Rebecca. We all love you. All of us care about you and I understand...." Alaric started to say, but Becca cut him off.

"Don't you dare saying you understand what I've been through because no one does!" she screamed out, pounding her fist against the desk while jumping up from her seat. Her eyes showed the flame of anger and pain. "You're right. I don't, but I do know you need help to get through this," he replied.

"No, I don't! You don't get it. I... I...," Becca trailed off as the tears, that urged to spill out, burned her eyes.

"It's okay Becca. You can tell me," Alaric told her softly in the very reassuring way.

Alaric wrapped his arms around Becca and pulled her into a hug when he saw her breathing heavily, trying to hold back her tears.

"It's okay, Becca. You don't have to get through this alone," he cooed in her ear while rubbing her back soothingly.

After a while, Alaric pulled back his hug and crouched down to be on Becca's eye level.

"Are you going to be okay?" he asked.

"I will be. Look, Uncle Ric... I know you want me to tell you everything, but I just want to be alone for now," Becca said, looking at Alaric pleadingly, hoping he would understand.

Alaric looked at Becca, concern was written all over his face. "Are you sure you don't want to talk about it?"

Becca nodded her head in response. "I'm feeling better, Uncle Ric. There's nothing to worry about," she told him, smiling weakly. She lied to him, obviously, but she hoped a little smile could make him believe her and apparently it did work. Alaric sighed deeply. "I can't force you to tell me, but I want you to know that you don't have to get through this alone. You have me. You have your parents and we are willing to help you." Exactly when he said that, the end-of-school bell rang. "Thank you. Now can I go?" she asked, wanted to end the conversation as quickly as she could.

Alaric let out a sigh before nodding. "You can go," he said. Barely after he said that, Becca bolted out of the classroom.

It was 10:03pm, way past Becca's curfew, and Damon and Elena were wondering where Becca was. They just came back from an important meeting with Klaus and the Mikaelson family. When they came home, they couldn't find Becca anywhere in the house. Damon had called Becca's cellphone for about thirty times, but she didn't answer it. As Damon got more and more worried and kept trying to reach his daughter, Elena went to Becca's room to check, in case she left a note or something.

Elena was proven right. Her eyes caught a piece of folded paper on Becca's nightstand. The letter was addressed to her and Damon. She unfolded the letter and her eyes scanned through Becca's handwriting on the paper. Elena's eyes went as wide as saucers as soon as she finished reading the letter. Her jaw dropped and horror look written all over her face as soon as reality crashed down on her and she realized what was her daughter about to do.

Meanwhile, Becca stood on the top of the clock tower on the Town Square, glancing down to the wonderful night sight of the small town of Mystic Falls. It was wonderful to see all of it from above. She would enjoy it if she wasn't about to jump off the clock tower and ended everything.

She looked sad and confused. Pain was shown in her eyes. She couldn't bear living in the pain, the pressure, and the nightmare of that night that kept rewinding in her head. Being bullied in school worsened everything too. She thought maybe the pain would stop if she ended everything and she thought the only thing to do that was to take her own life.

So, there she was, standing on the top of the clock tower and was about to jump off. From up there she could vaguely hear siren coming from the police cars and also horns from the cars down on the road. She took a deep breath and looked down. It was really high and she was sure she would be dead if she jumped off.

"I'm sorry," she mumbled before closing her eyes and without a second thought, letting her feet stepped off the clock tower. She felt the air fluttered around her as she plummeted a hundred feet down. She closed her eyes tightly and waited for her body to crash down the road.
