Fifteen with An Attitude

Chapter 18 What Did She Get Herself Into?

"What is it Becca?" Alaric asked, started to get worried. Becca looked up at him. It was too late to chicken out.

"I did it. I pulled the prank," Becca mumbled, looking down to the floor.

Alaric was a bit surprised by her statement. He stood up and approached her.

"Becca... Why would you do something like that?" he asked.

"She said something mean about me, alright? Not directly to me, but... I overheard it. So, I thought getting back to her was a good idea," Becca explained. "What did she say?"

"It doesn't matter," Becca said, looking away.

"It does matter. What did she say, Becca?" he prompted.

Becca took a deep breath. "She said I'm just a pathetic orphan. She said my parents adopted me because they just feel sorry for me and soon they will throw me away like my birth parents did. They said I'm real pathetic if I really believe they truly love me. They also said a lot of other mean stuff and gossips about me," she answered.

"You know that's not true, Becca. Your parents love you very much," Alaric said, wrapping his hands around her and pulling her in for a hug.

"I know... It's just... I don't like being the subject of their gossip, so I wanted to get revenge," Becca said, leaving out the fact that she wanted to cut herself after hearing them saying those mean things about her.

"By pulling a prank?" Alaric asked, "You know it's wrong and it would get you into a lot of trouble."

"I know and I'm sorry," Becca apologized.

"So do I. Next time something like this happen, you go talk to me or any adults before you do something so silly, okay?"

Becca nodded her head.

"Now, answer me. Is anyone else involved in pulling the prank?"

"No. It was just me," Becca lied.

Alaric raised his eyebrows with his arms crossed over his chest.

"Fine. My friends were involved in this, but I was the one who told them to help me. It was all my fault, okay? Please leave them out of this," Becca said, almost pleading.

"This is why you're here and not in Mr. Faye's office. Am I correct?"

"Yes. I'm going to fess up, but I'm going to tell him I'm the only one who did it."

"May I ask you why?"

"Because there's a high chance that we would get caught. I know we are because I didn't shut down the security camera. I think it's not fair for them to get suspended for my revenge. Paige and her friend didn't do anything to them. This way, I'm able to protect them for getting suspended," Becca explained. For the first time since they met, Alaric saw maturity in her decision.

"I'm proud of you," he said, half-smiling, "Not for pulling the prank, but for being mature about this," he clarified and pulled her into a hug.

Becca furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "You're not mad at me?"

"Oh, trust me. I am. But seeing you like this... You fessed up to me, the way you protect your friends, and you're going to accept the consequences of your action. That's a very mature thing to do and I'm proud," Alaric said. Becca still shot him a confused look. "Look, Uncle Ric... Please don't tell anyone about what I told you in here. I'm going to confess that I did it, but not the reason that led me up to the prank I pulled."

"The Principal has to know if other student is harassing you," Alaric said, trying to make sense out of it.

Becca let out a bitter laugh. "He won't believe it because I have no proof," she said.

"You will never know if you never try, Becca," Alaric told her.

"Please Uncle Ric... Don't make me do it," Becca said, shooting him a pleading look.

Alaric stayed in silence for a while, considering what to say. "Okay, fine. But if this is keep getting worse, you better tell me or other teachers. Got it?" Alaric said sternly and Becca nodded in response. "Okay. I'm going to walk you to the Principal's office," he said, opening the door and holding it for Becca. She stepped out and they made their way to the Principal's office.

"You vandalized school property, Miss Salvatore," Mr. Faye started the lecture.

Becca rolled her eyes. Tell me something I don't know, she thought to herself.

"Drawing graffiti across the locker is clearly unacceptable and that graffiti contains foul language. Any particular reason why you drew something like that Miss Salvatore?" "I'm just good at it," Becca said indifferently, shrugging her shoulders.

Mr. Faye took a deep breath, clearly trying to control his rage. "Do you know that the prank you pulled caused the whole school to panic?"

No need to exaggerate, Mr. Dick Face, Becca thought to herself. She rolled her eyes.

"It was just a harmless prank," Becca said.

"It might be harmless for you, but not for the victims," Mr. Faye stated.

"I just thought it was funny," Becca said, smirking bitterly.

"Well it's not, Miss Salvatore. I'm going to call your parents and tell them to pick you up. You're suspended for two days."

"What?! But you said if I fess up, I won't get suspended," Becca said, crossing her arm.

"I never said that," Mr. Faye said.

"Prick," Becca murmured under her breath.

"What did you say, Miss Salvatore?" Mr. Faye asked, challenging her to say it again.

"Go to hell, prick," Becca mouthing off at him.

"That's it! Four days of suspension and go wait outside," he said, pointing toward the door.

"My pleasure," Becca retorted, forcing a smile. She got up and went outside.

Elena walked into the school building thirty minutes later with a frown on her face. Becca was taken aback because her Mom was the one to show up instead of her Dad. She was looking very unhappy. She glared at Becca, but didn't say anything. The secretary let Elena into Mr. Faye's office.

About twenty minutes later, the door flew open. Elena, along with Mr. Faye, walked out.

"Once again, I'm really sorry about my daughter's behavior today," Elena said to Mr. Faye.

Mr. Faye nodded his head. "Thank you for coming here, Mrs. Salvatore. Have a great day," he said, shaking Elena's hand.

"Let's go home, Rebecca," Elena said, grabbing Becca's wrist.

In no time at all, they left the school building. The drive home was quiet and tense. Elena didn't say a word to Becca and neither did Becca. Elena pulled into the driveway and they walked inside the house.

"Go to your room, Rebecca. I'll be up in a bit," Elena said while heading to the kitchen.

Becca trudged upstairs to her room. Meanwhile, Elena went to the fridge and took out a blood bag and gulped it all down. She needed time to herself to calm down. She couldn't understand why Becca would do such thing and getting herself suspended. She better have good reason, Elena thought to herself before walked to Becca's room.

She knocked on the door and pushed the door open just to find Becca sat down on her bed. She pulled her knees to her chest and zoning out.

Elena took a deep breath and sat on the edge of Becca's bed. She put her hand over Becca's, pulling her out of her train of thoughts.

"I'm surprised you were the one who showed up at school and not Dad. Where's he, Mom?" Becca asked.

"He's going out to catch up with his old friends. I answered the phone from your school and your principal said I had to pick you up," Elena explained and Becca nodded her head slightly.

"I don't know where to start, Becca...," Elena said next, breaking the intense silence.

"You know your father will be flipped out when he hear about you getting suspended, right?" Elena asked her.

"I know...," Becca murmured while fidgeting with the hem of her shirt.

"Then why did you do it?"

"I just wanted to get revenge. The girl messed with me and I wanted to get back to her. I didn't think it would cause so much trouble. I fessed up because the principal threatened to suspend me if he had to investigate it. So, I did and guess what? I'm getting suspended no matter what," Becca explained, leaving out several details. She let out a huff.

"And that gave you the right mouthing off at him?" Elena asked, crossing her arms and gazed at Becca.

"I was upset," Becca groaned and threw her head back.

"Sure. You were upset, then you mouthed off to your principal, getting extra two days of suspension, and now guess what?" Elena asked, raising her eyebrows.

"I'm about to get a sore bottom. Yay!" Becca answered sarcastically and rolled her eyes.

"Stop with the sarcasm. You are already in deep trouble," Elena warned her and once again, Becca rolled her eyes.

"Wait here until your father gets home," Elena said, getting up. She was about to leave the room when she heard Becca's remark.

"Why? Are you afraid to do it yourself?" Becca challenged her Mom.

Elena turned her body around and glared at Becca. "Excuse me?"

"Are you afraid to do it yourself, mom?" Becca repeated with a slight smirk on her lips.

Becca could see that she had pushed Elena's button. Elena tried to control her anger. She took a dangerous step toward Becca, glaring at her daughter.
