Fate’s Second Chance Chapter 9
Chapter 9
- VA.
The next morning, Salome applied some foundation to cover the slap mark on her face
and headed out to the studio, which was located in a commercial building with two
floors.
As she worked here part–time, she didn’t have to clock in regularly. That said, she still
had to attend the monthly summary meeting.
Usually, Luke would be the first to arrive. However, he didn’t this time. In fact, he only
showed up half an hour after the meeting commenced,
He was still dressed in the suit from the day before, looking to be in a rush.
Salome stopped twirling her pen momentarily, having a feeling that something else had
happened to him.
“Sorry for being so late today,” Luke said as he approached the main seat in front and
sat down. When he noticed the worried look in Salome’s eyes, he smiled apologetically.
Meanwhile, the others proceeded with the summary in an orderly manner.
After the meeting, Salome had originally planned to leave with everyone else, but
seeing Luke still remain in his seat, she couldn’t help but walk over and ask, “What
happened?”

At that, Luke rubbed his temple wearily. “Something happened in Lacey’s family,” he
said in a terribly hoarse voice. It was evident he hadn’t slept all night.
His lips moved a few times as if he wanted to say something but hesitated.
“Something serious?”
Luke fell silent at that, but after contemplating a few minutes about the decision he
might have to make, he eventually spoke up, “I’m considering whether to sell the studio,
but I don’t know how to tell everyone.”
Salome was shocked at the fact that he wanted to sell the studio when it was currently
on the rise. Also, Luke himself shouldn’t be short on money. The studio was his
dedication over the past few years, and he wouldn’t consider selling it unless there was
no other way.
“How much is still needed?”
“At least three million.” Luke smiled wryly while rubbing his temple. His eyes were
terribly bloodshot. “If only we were able to close the deal with Isaac Anderson last
night. Alas.”
“I’ll try and talk to him again,” Salome said while grabbing her belongings. “Don’t tell the
others about this just yet.”

Luke sighed in response. “Don’t put too much pressure on yourself if it doesn’t work
out. It was on Lacey for slapping you last night. She’s emotionally unstable right now,
and I apologize on her behalf.”

Salome left the conference room, still determined to try her luck at the Anderson Group,
where Isaac was currently at. It was only after meeting with him that she’d have a
chance at closing the deal.
The Anderson HQ Tower, located in the heart of Hallowthorn’s central business district,
was one of the tallest and most prominent landmark buildings. It was said that when
looking down from the top, all one could see was the wealth of the Anderson Family,
accumulated over generations to an exaggerated extent.
After registering, Salome entered the lobby and approached the front desk, where the
receptionist greeted her, an unfamiliar face, with a smile. “Hello, how may I help you?”
“I would like to see Mr. Anderson. Is he available now?”
The receptionist’s smile faltered for a moment as she sized Salome up. “I’m sorry, but
Mr. Anderson wouldn’t see anyone without an appointment.”
At that, Salome pressed on. “What if I’m here to discuss a business collaboration?”
“For collaborations, please contact the business department. If there are any
documents requiring Mr. Anderson’s signature, they will be submitted for his approval.”

Her silence seemed to bring a hint of disdain in the receptionist’s gaze. Pfft. Another
woman trying to climb the social ladder, waiting for Isaac’s arrival and departure times
just for a chance to talk to him.

You’d be surprised at the number of women who had attempted the same in the past
couple of days! the receptionist thought.
Salome found it difficult to explain herself as well. She couldn’t simply say, ‘Actually, I’m
your boss‘ wife, could she?! But sitting ducks wouldn’t get her anywhere, either.
Do I really have to make a trip to Anderson Residence?
Amidst her hesitation, she received a message from an unknown number. ‘Hello, Miss
Felix. I am Mr. Anderson’s private lawyer. I have visited your place twice before
regarding the divorce agreement, but you were not there. Are you available right now?”
