Fated to the Werewolf King

Chapter 31: Jayce

Every single night was a party, and it got him no where with the Alphas. Each one was too dignified to think about his invite, let alone even open up to talk about it. Each night after making his argument known, he'd escape to the beach, away from the music, the dancing, the drinking, and the women. Damn, the women. Archibald wasn't joking about their beauty, yet his Wolf would snarl each time a She-Wolf advanced on him. His Wolf was determined to keep him innocent during his visit there, but he missed Lily. He missed having her soft, warm body beside him every night. He missed waking up to her every morning. He missed her scent, her voice, but he felt like giving up. Giving in to his needs. Giving up being the man she wanted him to be. Then one night, alone on the beach again as he was struggling to stay away from yet another orgy offer, he heard her. He swore he did. Yet she wasn't there. Then he felt her, just for a moment. Her scent wafted through him, reigniting his purpose. She spoke to him like she was physically there with him. She believed in him. She loved him, no matter what would happen in the end. That gave him the strength to move forward, to slay his own inner demons and face the obstacle before him

He had been preparing his departure when Damion called him, requesting a conference call with the Alphas. At first he was against it. There was no more talking about it when they were so firm on their decision, but his Wolf encouraged him. He needed to try one last time.

"The room is ready, Jayce." Penelope informed him from the doorway. He picked up his bag, slinging it over his shoulder. No matter what now, he was heading home and staying there.

"Is everyone in attendance?" He asked her as they walked down the stone staircase.

"Yes, even Derek is here as well." She told him. He straightened his back.

More fuel for the fire.

They entered the living room, the gentle breeze swaying the tan curtains of the veranda. Each Alpha again being present with their Lunas. Then Derek sitting in the seat opposite of Archibald. Each Alpha stood, inclining their necks at him. Depending how things would turn out, this might be the last time that they do this for him.

"Thank you all for convening tonight. We have a conference call coming in from my Beta." He told them as they took a seat once he did. Archibald held up his remote to the large screen across the way and turned it on. Except Damion wasn't sitting on the other side of the camera. It was Lily. "Good evening everyone.” She smiled, her eyes looking around the table until they landed on Jayce. He let out a sigh upon seeing her, his heart ramming against his chest.

"I'm a bit lost. We were informed that Beta Damion was going to be addressing the table.” Alpha Javon spoke up. Lily inclined her head, tapping her chin where Jayce noticed her arm was bandaged. "Lily, what happened to your arm?" He asked, ignoring the Alpha's question. She blinked, looking down at it and let out an awkward laugh.

"Elias shifted today.” She beamed. Jayce heard Penelope let out a soft gasp behind him, "There was an incident at the park earlier today and it just happened.” Her eyes sparkled, "His fur is as black as night and its so soft.” She squealed excitedly. He smiled at her. She would probably go insane when they had their own pups.

"Can we get to the point of this call, please?" Derek ushered them along. Jayce snarled at him. Lily directed her attention to Derek, her smile dropping.

"Alpha Derek, usually when a child accomplishes something, the parent acknowledges and congratulates them.” She said, shifting her attention back to the group. Derek's shoulders rose and fell like waves.

"I asked for the call. I apologize that Beta Damion didn't properly address that to you all.” She told them. Each Alpha looked to one another.

"If this is about your mating ceremony, you should know that you don't have our approval.” Alpha Jackson informed her, but Lily smiled at him

"That's okay because I don't want your approval.” She told him. She took a deep breath, her eyes focused, her shoulders back, her chin high, "Werewolves have existed since the story of Jesus Christ, the Werewolf King born in the fall of Julius Caesar." She started to recite their history. He was impressed that she managed to learn so much in such a short time.

"We don't want to relearn our history.” Alpha Derek let out a growl.

"Yet it seems that you need to be reminded.” She told him, "This has been the first occurrence of a human and a Werewolf King being soul-linked. Instead of honoring your King, you through dirt on him instead.” She turned her gaze on the three other Alphas, “I'm not a fool. I know you spent every night feeding my Mate alcohol and women, trying to sway him into ditching me for a She-Wolf." She turned her gaze on Jayce. He swallowed hard.

"Did you tell her?" Archibald asked him.

"He didn't need to. His Wolf did.” She replied for him. Jayce rubbed his temples. He had serious making up to do when he got home.

"What do you mean his Wolf told you?" The Luna to Javon spoke up shyly, her dreads tied back in a braid. Lily looked over to her, then to the other females.

"I'm sorry, I know the Alphas, but not their Lunas. What is your name?" Lily asked her.

"Her name is..." Alpha Javon spoke up.

"I asked her." Lily snapped at him. Javon went quiet, surprising the other Alphas. "Go on.” She switched her attitude again to the Luna.

"I'm Luna Isis.” She responded. Lily's eyes widened and she smiled.

"Like the Egyptian Goddess?" She asked her. Luna Isis nodded and Lily let out a soft squeal. "I love it! I love Egyptian history. I actually took a course...” Lily started to ramble like she would when something of interest came up.

"Stay on track, Lily." Jayce told her, but he wanted to keep listening to her. She looked at him and cleared her throat.

"Right right, I'm sorry.” She looked back to Luna Isis, "After Jayce Marked me and we..." she blushed brightly, "sealed the deal, his Wolf leant me his strength. I've been able to communicate with him on a daily basis." She told her.

That explains what happened on the beach then

"Hello, Luna Lily? My name is Luna Selene.” The brunette spoke up beside Alpha Lukas, "You may not know this, but we're not Mated.” She made gestures to the Wolves at the table. Lily's eyes widened at her words.

"Really?" She asked and she nodded. Alpha Lukas snarled at his Luna. He reached up, grabbing her arm and tightened his grip. Luna Selene gasped softly, silencing herself. Before Jayce could interject, Lily was ahead of him.

"Don't you fucking dare lay a damn hand on her.” She shouted. Alpha Lukas froze, his hand slowly retracting from his Luna's arm. Jayce stared in amazement that he listened. Luna Selene looked grateful.

"You're not Mated, yet you cast your judgement against me?" Lily stated. The Alphas looked around as they grew uncomfortable. Alpha Derek stood up from his seat.

"This is enough. I refuse to listen to this child talk. Shut it off.” He ordered Archibald.

"Archibald, you shut off that screen, I'll behead you where you sit." Jayce growled his threat. Archibald handed the remote off to Penelope who took it and stashed it away in her bag. Derek growled at her, but she brushed him off.

"Continue darling." Penelope encouraged her, setting her hand on Jayce's shoulder.

"Either leave or take a seat, Derek." Jayce ordered him. Derek snarled, leaving the room.

"Please Alphas, look at your Lunas.” Lily requested of them. Lukas was reluctant at first, but Jackson and Javon gazed at their Lunas, "Look into her eyes. You may not be soul-linked, but deep down, you know that your Wolves made a connection to each other. You compliment each other one way or another. Even if you don't say it out loud, you can still feel it." She said. Jayce watched as Javon caressed Isis’ cheek. She growled softly, leaning into his touch.

"If you can't accept the invitation because of what I am,” Lily looked at each couple. Jackson and his Luna pressed their foreheads together, "then accept it for the love Jayce and I share.” She told them, sitting back in her seat. Lukas looked at Selene with distaste.

"I still reject the proposal.” Alpha Lukas spoke up. Selene slumped her shoulders.

"In that case, I extend an invite to Luna Selene.” She said to her. Luna Selene's eyes lit up.

"I'd love to!" She said excitedly. Alpha Lukas stormed from the room as soon as she accepted. The other two Alphas looked to one another, both sharing a nod.

"We will gladly accept your invite, Queen Lily." Alpha Javon responded. Both couples inclined their necks at her. Lily looked at them, tears swarming her eyes as she smiled.

"Thank you. Thank you all so much.” She inclined her neck in return. The ultimate respect.

"Thank you all for joining this call. This meeting is adjourned.” Jayce concluded. The group stood up, offering their necks again before filing out.

"I'll be in the car.” Penelope told him before leaving him with the remote. Jayce walked over to the screen, sitting on the table across from it.

"You still amaze me, Lily." He told her. She wiped her eyes, smiling.

"My heart is going a mile a minute right now.” She said.

"I'm coming home." He told her. She sniffled, looking at him and her mood suddenly flipped.

"You sir, are in serious trouble.” She yelled, crossing her arms over her chest, "How fucking dare you almost give up on me? On us!" She was crying, but she was furious.

"I didn’t go through with it." He tried to defend himself.

"You still thought about it, Jayce. All because you had needs to fill. So do I!" She nearly screamed. "Lily, calm down.” He put his hands up.

"Don't you dare tell me to calm down.” She hiccuped, covering her face with her hands. Jayce frowned, touching the screen. "Our love is supposed to be unshakable. Yet you shook it because other women offered themselves to you." She gasped softly. Jayce whimpered.

"Lily..." he ran his fingers over the screen, "I'm sorry. Deeply and truly. I was a fool for growing so weak when I should have been strong for you.” He admitted finally. Every single moment he was away from her, he felt his old habits resurfacing, and it frightened him.

"Do you honestly love me?" She asked him.

"More than anything.” He told her, "Lily, I was ready to give up my rights as King tonight to be with you." He said honestly. She finally looked at him.

"You would do that?" She asked him through small hiccups.

"I don't care for the title, the cars, the house... All I need in my life is you." He said. She sniffled, looking at him with her red tinted eyes.

"Travel safely, okay?" She said, averting her gaze. He frowned, opening his mouth to speak when she ended the call. He dropped his head in his hands, feeling the near loss of his Mate when a presence stepped into the room behind him.

"You would really throw it all away for her?" Derek asked him. Jayce looked over to him, getting off of the table.

"Would you do the same for Penelope?" He growled as he walked passed him, picking up his bag and left the estate behind.

Penelope and Jayce sat waiting for their flight to Washington, a soft drizzle going on outside with the soft rumble of thunder with it. He tried calling Lily several times between leaving Hawaii and arriving in Texas, but she refused all of his calls. His Wolf hadn't made a single sound either. Hopefully he was comforting her more than he ever could right now. She was right. Their bond was unmatched, yet he unscrewed it because of the temptation of being screwed.

"Are you done beating yourself up about it now?" Penelope asked as she typed away on her phone. He just grumbled incoherently. "You know Lily better than anyone. Make it up to her.” She told him. "How? You didn't see her face. She looked broken and betrayed. Again.” He threw his ticket on the ground. Penelope picked it up and put it in his pocket.

"Then fix it." She said and went back to her phone. He grabbed it and threw it on the ground.

"Can you act like my mother for once?" He shouted. Heads turned toward them. Penelope looked up at him, taken aback for a second.

"You fucked up." She told him. He felt relieved when she said it. He sat back, looking around.

"I don't want to lose her when we're so close." He told her. Penelope rested her hand on his arm "Lily is a delicate human being, but she is as strong as a She-Wolf. She knows you love her, truly and deeply. I can feel it. Your people can feel it." She looked around the airport, watching people walk by. "You haven't failed her. If your love is absolute, you need to show her. We're the only family that she has.” She said, her eyes soft. Jayce looked at her before picking up her now cracked phone. An idea slowly blossomed in his mind and he got to his feet.

"I'll see you back at the house. I have somewhere else to go." He told her as he took out his phone. "Be safe.” She called after him. Jayce scrolled through social media until he was back on Lily's old profile. He continued hunting until he landed on another profile. He sent a message and not a second later received a response with a phone number.

"Hello?" An older man's voice picked up.

"Nathan, this is Jayce Ryder. I wanted to talk to you about your daughter. Can we meet?"
