Fated is overrated

Chapter 149

Lola POV

"What?" I ask, do I have anything on me or something? I pat down my own body looking for anything out of order. "Nothing. I was just happy to see you show up, that's all". "Ahhh, did you enjoy the show?" I ask, jokingly taking a bow, before adding " speaking of which that was quite a bold move yourself back there".

He grins widely before casually replying, "It's the truth. By the way, I heard the Fae princess got your phone number. So.. You will have to give it to me as well. You know, to keep our future alliances strong" he shamelessly winks at me. I chuckle at his audacity. "Well, you heard wrong.

She gave me hers" I grin back at him, before adding "but since you are willing to risk your life for it with my 2 Lycan mates right down the hall, I guess I'll be nice for a change and give it to you".

He laughs spontaneously, it's infectious and I can't help but laugh along as he holds out his phone for me to enter it, which I do. "Those 2 puppies? They don't scare me. Especially not when it comes down to such an amazing lady. I am curious though... Isn't the mate bond supposed to be irresistible? Especially for Lycans?".

That's a topic I don't want to breach right now, so I am glad to see Damon walking towards us, calling my name. "Well, that's my cue!" I grin widely, while I skip past him.

"Don't go stalking me now you have my number!" I call back out to him laughingly. He smiles widely and calls back "can't make any promises!". Although he seems really sweet and he is really funny, my mind can't help but wander back to where it probably shouldn't be.

As Damon and I round the corner to walk back to our quarters, I bump into someone's back. I groan when electric tingles course through my body and the scent of pine and cedarwood filters into my nostrils.

My eyes lock with his beautiful enticing blue orbs. Of course, I had to bump into Zeke. "Hey.. Can we talk for a sec?". Before I can even respond, Damon makes sure to remove himself from this awkward encounter quickly, walking off and yelling "I'll see you later sis". "Traitor'! I mind link my little brother. 'Give him a chance to explain' he retorts, but I don't give him a response.

"Well then, talk.." I drawl, motioning my hand for him to speak. "Can we do it elsewhere?". I fold my arms across my chest defiantly "No". We are out of earshot for those who were in the meeting, so I don't see why we should parade around before getting to the point.

"Ok. Well... Erhm... I wanted to apologize" he scratches the back of his neck awkwardly, and I have to refrain from showing my annoyance. I don't need him to apologize, I need him to explain why he doesn't trust me.

As if he read my thoughts, he continues. "It's not that I don't trust you, Lola, I really do. It's just.. I know you have a habit of facing danger alone.

And if you'd know Zane can teleport and avoid your forcefield or whatever that was, you might try to stop us in another way. We want to fight for and with you, Lola. You don't have to face any dangers alone. Or anything else for that matter, if you will let us". He tries to grab my hand, but I pull it back. I see the hurt flash across his face, but I can't help it. I'm not sure what to think right now. I don't know whether it is bad that he didn't want to tell me, or if it is sweet that he did it to make sure I don't face danger alone. My head is all over the place.

And with his close proximity, my mind is too foggy to function properly. His scent is distracting, and making me lean towards thinking it was sweet. But I need to think straight without this mate bond clouding my judgement. "I need some time to think about what you've said, I'm not sure how to feel about it. I don't like being lied to, regardless of the reason" I clench my jaw.

Scratch that, I f*cking hate being lied to. I know I can be stubborn. And he is right, I would have tried to find another way to keep them outside of the force field if I had known (hell, initially I didn't even realize I was the one creating the force field). But only to keep them safe. I fight my own battles, I don't want anyone else to get hurt on my behalf."

I know, I f*cked up. I will never do it again" he sighs deeply. His eyes are screaming hurt and despair so badly, it tugs at my heart. And being able to feel Liberty's agony isn't helping either."

OK. Give me some time to think" I reply with a small smile, before walking off towards my room. I hate all the drama that seems to chase after me wherever I go, why can't people just let me be happy? I have never done anything to anyone who didn't deserve it. And yet, they make me out to be a monster. 'Maybe they are scared of us because they have malicious intent themselves, and are afraid we are going to be the ones to stop them?' Justice cuts in.

As I am pondering on it, lost in thoughts, I get a mind link from my dad, the urgency and panic in his voice is palpable. 'We are under attack, head to the tunnels!'. Tunnels my *ss.

I jump out of the nearest window I can find, and I shift to our dragon form midair. Surely he doesn't believe I will sit by idly, watching an unwarranted attack on innocent people? I warned them in the meeting already - if they want a war, they shall have one. Time to f*ck shit up!
